Gregg Carlson's Hulls application is definitely a good one. I've been using it for 5 or 6 years. I used it to design the cradle boat I built for my son. I think I've shown it elsewhere so I won't bore you all with it now.

RE: Mirror or Reflection.
I use this method frequently when I want to show two views of something in the same image. The "mirror frame" and surface aren't required but I find that they help to communicate that the viewer is looking at a mirrored view. Here are a couple of examples.

Looks great Dave. The grain is especially nice. I do notice that the shadow lines are sharper than the rest of the model.
Thanks John. I hope SU V7 has sketchy shadows, too.
Remus, thank you.

RE: Mission Style Clock
Ah, ok. Post-processing involved cropping the JPG and letting Google Picasa do an automatic contrast adjustment. It's a trademarked process I invented but I'd happily sell you the rights to use it.

Pre-post=processing involved adding my Old Paper style to the model before export. You can get the style here: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=2624

Mission Style Clock
Last night I got an e-mail from a high school industrial arts teacher in Los Angeles. He was looking for some help on a mission style clock. Here's what I drew for him. Actually, I kind of dressed it up for the picture. After getting a bit more information from him, I'll be making shop drawings so his students can build this clock as a project.

Watermark Overlays Question
I've been playing with styles again and wondering if anyone has thoughts on how to improve the contrast in the view. I realize that my overlay is causing the problem but if I set the transparency slider more toward the Model side, the overlay disappears. I can adjust the contrast in my image editor but I'd like to be able to do it up front. Do I need to make a PNG with in this case the grain on a transparent background? Here are a couple of examples. The contrastier one was adjusted in my image editor.

RE: Herringbone brick pattern
I'm not at my Mac right now so I don't know for sure about this. What if you click in one of those little white squares below the Close button? Do you get an option to set a new color?

RE: [Plugin] SketchyFFD (Classic)
Where's the "dope slap" smilie?

I was doing it in reverse, trying to make a group of a components. Thanks Coen. I gotta think inside the box.

RE: [Plugin] SketchyFFD (Classic)
Coen's post makes me ask, is there anyway to make this work on a component instead of or in addition to a group?

RE: POANG FOOT STOOL
This is very nice Mike.
My apologies. I probably shouldn't have posted that. I've removed it.

RE: Another Render in KT2008 Echo
Thanks. the Padauk is mine. Edited from something else but I don't recall what. The Wenge is from a pretty good photo of it. The QWSO was from an image I found with a Google search but it was made usable by our very own Modelhead and in a thread in the Materials forum.

RE: [Plugin] SketchyFFD (Classic)
Yup. That's what I did alright.

Thanks for the help.

RE: [Plugin] SketchyFFD (Classic)
Very cool script. Thank you.
I do seem to being doing something wrong with it though. (Leave it to me to break it.
) See the attached screen grab.I drew a sphere centered on the blue axis and above the ground plane. After moving a single point marked at the top and updating, the egg moved off to where it is now. What did I do wrong?

RE: Pipe Box
BTW, this model utilizes a hidden seam line on the front and back pieces to help keep the entity count down a bit.

RE: Pipe Box
Thank you Boo.
I'm singing that song now and can't get it out of my head.

Do you suppose anyone would be interested in the style I used here?

Pipe Box
I've been wanting a justification to buy a scroll saw and here it is: Lonnie Bird's Pipe Box from Fine Woodworking Nov/Dec04.

RE: Recent Work
Thanks, that is some conglomeration I made using the masonite watermark and a line style probably made by Ross with the color changed. The glow was done in Picasa I think. When I get home I'll have a look and see if I saved the style. If so, I'll post it.
The reflection is just an illusion.
