Trying to model a track for an adjustable shelf. Made track, then cut 1st slot.
Made slot a component with "any & cut face" checked.
Then brought in to another track section but it does not cut face.
I'll try to upload file also.

Thanks for that explanation Tig, it's working now.
I believe my problem was in the Styles section.
Not quite understanding how to get them to show section planes.
I have 3 scenes .... 1.top view, 2.perp view, then same 3.perp view with a section plane cut through the model.
3rd view looks same as 2nd view, does not show the section plane.
I've tried different settings and updating with the check marks in the "active plane section" ... but still no go.
I've tried the toggle on the section plane toolbar, but then my 1st scene does not show right.

SketchUp window by clicking the "Maximize" button,
That's what it was.
Looked full screen but actually wasn't.
Thanks mrossk
Lost tips and info that shows when a tool is selected at bottom left of screen.
Not sure how I turned it off.
Measurement/dimension box is still showing lower right.

You could also use this,
http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=17948#p144180
Allows you to input exact sizes
Thanks for the tip Nick.
As I'm learning the program, only plugin I'm using BuildEdge, to quickly create roof lines.
Will look at others down the road.
Thanks

Keep in mind that scaling the component you show will change the proportions of the end cap and the bevel on it as well.
Yes ... had not realized that.
Thanks Dave
Ah ... good tip Pilou, thanks.
Had come across that somewhere but didn't remember.
I have a column as a component at 4' tall.
I want to scale it up to whatever height I want.
Grab the red handle at top and input 7' and it scales correctly.
Have not figured how to input dimension for say - 7'-6 3/8".

Thanks,
An other idea is - perhaps are anywhere google-SU-files stored which I have to remove!?
But where?
Manno
I'm on XP machine ... but should be similar.
Look in
Document & Settings
Users
All Users
App Data
Google
Google Sketchup
Also ... sometimes that App Data folder may be hidden.
Thanks guys, all good points and clears it up.
Dave, thanks for the pics, really helps.
Inspecting mirrors is a job I could easily see myself doing.
I want to begin making my own components.
Does it matter at what Z height they are saved ?
Say I stick a rafter above a 8' high wall and save that rafter as a component.
When that rafter component is brought into another model, is it at that same 8' Z height ?
Thanks Tig, had not thought of the App Data folder.
Uninstalled then reinstalled and back to normal (me thinks)
Tried installing a trial to BuildEdge plugin. It seemed to install correctly but while using, SU crashed.
Then reopened SU and the line tool is not working as normal. I can place one or 1st section of a line, then it does not work anymore.
I looked for a uninstall of the plugin from control panel but did not see it.
Then I just removed the BuildEdge folder from the plugins folder.
Reopened SU, the plugin gone but the line tool still not normal.
Win XP machine
I have found that SU has a viewer version where a client could download and view SU models.
Is there a way to install/embed the viewer onto a website so the client would not have to download SU ?
Any advice on how you get clients to view SU models on the web would be appreciated.
Thanks for the info and advice on youtube tutorials.
Also got some excellent tips from a very kind member (Dave R)
Thanks much for your help.
I'll probably be back.
OK ... I see, thought I had to click in the area.
You need to set a direction first with cursor/drawing,
before inputting a dimension, right?
Just playing around waiting for a book to come in.
Thanks
