Ooh, yes that did work.
Now to see if the rest of the pipeline works... -

One possible solution (have not tried yet): could you use TT's UV Toolkit plugin to copy the coordinates, un-project the image and then paste the co-ordinates again? (well, maybe this would paste them back projected of course but it may be worth fiddling around)
UV Toolkit didn't work
I guessing its because the terrain from GE isn't true Quadfaces. Thanks for the links Cotty. SketchUV looks promising.

RE: Convert projected texture from GE to not-projected?
In the image above, I had painted the sides with a flat color but because the top image is projected the colors from the sides are removed when converting to VRML for color 3D printing.
I'll try TT's UV toolkit...I forgot about that one.

Convert projected texture from GE to not-projected?
The material on terrain imported from Google Earth comes in as a "projected" texture. Is there a way to convert the texture to be 'not-projected' without losing the UV mapping? I searched the Plugins Index, but didn't see anything that looks like it would work.
The reason I ask is if I want to 3D print a color model from Shapeways, the material cannot be projected or else the sides of model get that smeared looking texture, like this:

RE: Viewing SketchUp models on Android
Works on HTC EVO 3D
Pretty sweet!Android version 4.0.3
HTC Sense Version 3.6Also found a spelling error you may have missed (Download is spelled Dowload)
It would be nice if it would play SKP files directly....but I guess that's hard to do?

Nice! I'd love to hear about your experience with it after you've had it for a while...about printer setup, performance, etc. ...and see some photos too!

RE: Laser Cutting
Liam, look for a hackerspace or Fablab near you. Also called makerspaces, these are places you can pay a membership to access advanced tools, much like a gym.
I'm a member of a makerspace in Minneapolis, and I can't recommend it enough. We have a laser cutter, CNC router, RepRap 3D printers, CNC plasma cutter, welder, and lots of other tools available. The energy at these places is a great benefit too, as you can see what other people are making and ask/answer questions much like these forums but in real life.

RE: Real world model entirely modelled in Sketchup
Crazy cool! I think it deserves a place in the Sketchup Showcase: http://showcase.sketchup.com/ Have you thought about submitting it there?

I updated Sketchup right away with the new version, but when I open Layout I get a message that there is a new version available....click on the "Update" button and I go to the same download page.

Reinstall/repair did the trick. Why the hassle though?

doing maintenance for the current SU free version only should be the way, new functionality for the pro version only please.
I agree

I'll say it again, that I don't see the sense of this. Are you saying there is that little that SU needs to improve?
I think the changes needed now would be so integral, that maintaining the current free version would be like having to support two separate non-compatibale softwares, unless the Pro version is also crippled.
My position is don't take anything away from the existing free version. If Trimble needs to further differentiate the free vs. pro versions, then add features to the pro version, but leave the free version as is.
You make a great point though, if Sketchup's core architecture is changed (vs. just adding new tools), then it wouldn't make sense to offer the outdated free version.

...new users may just migrate to other free alternatives (of which there are many!).
because I'm not aware of just one alternative app I'd love to hear all of them? ... Blender, you're kiddin'
- 123D
- Openscad
- K3DSurf
- TopMod
- Wings3D
- Sculptris
- Blender. Yes Blender. I don't like it, you don't like it, but the fact remains there are LOTS of people using it, and loving it.
This list reflects a few alternatives (there are more!) for how I use Sketchup, designing for 3D printing. For architectural work, not one of these are good alternatives, but I'm guessing many of the free users are not using it for architectural work either.

RE: What will SketchUp Free and Pro look like in 2013?
I'm watching the Basecamp videos (which were just posted on Youtube!!
) and Bryn says there may be different versions of Sketchup available.I think that's great! For example, there could be a totally free version, a Pro hobbyist version for ~$100, and a Pro architectural version for $500...or some similar scheme.
