Hi,
I've tried a few programs. The result is always dependent on the quality of the scanned plan. Without manual work you will hardly get good results. I think that even the professionals do not get along without manual work. The plans for these examples are JPGs from the Internet. I found a program which provides possibly good results. The name is: Vextractor x64. It should be tried once.

@matt
that's already possible with tools on surfacewhich tool in TOS are you using? arc on surface?
if so, try using a simple line on surface.. click on the start point then the end point and that's it.
be an arc)
I Have tried it with the line but it does not work. I do not know if I did something wrong.
Hi,
I can only speak for Germany. The archeology among the other sciences, is still treated like a stepchild. It costs a lot of money and does not generate money but only cultural knowledge. In the end it's always a question of cost. If you are saving costs with special techniques, they are also used. Here in Germany there is an archeology agency for each state. And then there are the lower archaeological authorities that are responsible for the cities and counties. These agencies are usually not equipped with huge budgets and sufficient staffing. If special techniques such as laser scanning, aerial photogrammetry or building photogrammetry, 3D reconstruction are necessary, these operations are outsourced to private specialist firms. Even excavation will be partially outsourced to private specialized firms. The focus is always on the cost, the need for and benefits of specific techniques. In most cases the use of special techniques will be limited to a few very important Projects.
Hi,
The only way is up to now the program Mystic Thumbs ($25). Have a look at this thread.

Another option is the free XnView.
Hi,
a very good model.
Can someone explain again what the abbreviation NPR stands for . Thanks in advance.

Hi Beginner123,
the simplest method is to do it with Follow Me and Keep ruby.

I have windows 8 installed some weeks ago on a virtual machine (VMWare). The desktop is now accessible by using a tile. I don't like the start menu and I am still not clear how I can arrange my programs. At the moment I do not know yet what could induce me to switch to Windows 8.
Hi,
this free program I've found recently. It is capable to open a variety of file formats. Maybe interesting for some.

Now I understood it too. One could also describe it in this way:

Do you agree?
Hi,
In this case, it can also be done by the native Rotate tool.

Well done Eric! I'm interested in your technique as well. I'm still learning from you professionals.

Hi,
I took the model of daredevil and supplemented some elements. It may look not quite like the original but it can still become.
Hi Kelvin,
this would be the first step. Build the first individual element of the truss structure. Then you group them and copy them. Then you make a group from the copies. Then you can use "Shape bender" to create the arc shape. Then you can use the pipe plugin (as shown below). Is perhaps not so easy, but practice makes perfect.

OK ! To make some up and down setup, just use the Sandbox Smoove tool
Another "Duh" moment.

Thank you again for your help. I have modified the model a bit in view of the up and down curves.
I lowered both ends by the rotate tool and connected both ends by Curviloft. This is perhaps not the most optimal method.

I thank you all who responded for their help. daredevil, your solution is very close to the original. Pilou, that's the detail I have to solve.
Sometimes it gets stuck on a small problem.

Hi All,
I would like to recreate this Celtic fibula. Unfortunately I have no idea how I can construct the Celtic braid in 3D. It would be nice if someone could show me a step to a solution. Especially since the whole is also bowed. Thank you in advance.
