    • Re-Link Selected Viewport(s) Only

Would be nice if you could select a single viewport and Re-Link that viewport only, or select several and do same. (maybe you can and I missed it?)

Currently I save a copy of my LO file and Re-Link to another SU file...and then copy the desired viewport(s) and paste.

Most of the time I Re-Link to a saved copy of the same SU file as the client wants to see different color schemes and I find it easier to just save a copy and change textures/colors/etc. This preserves same scenes/etc. in SU and same viewports/ scales/etc. in LO.

Other times it is because the revisions get numerous enough that maintaing one SU file with the Existing/New via layers gets cumbersome and I simply save out a SU Existing File and Resort to version(s) with revisions.

Anyhow...I find myself thinking if I could just Re-Link certain viewports my life would be a bit easier.

      Thanks,
      Charlie

Hi, I've exported a few 2d graphics from sketch up and saved them as .tiff
As long as I look at them from the preview on mac they are fine but when I place them on an illustrator or photoshop file all the lines become dashed and the quality goes down.
      How can I solve this?
Here are two images, one from preview and one from illustrator

What does your image look like when saved as final .png/,tif/other image (illustrator or PS final output?)
IOW...this may just be a PS/illustrator display issue?

When this thread started in 2010, the Mac client would allow setting the opacity of text, but the Windows client couldn't set or even display text opacity. To avoid confusion, we recently (LO 2013?) disabled the opacity slider on Mac so that the platforms match.

      Thanks,
      Marc

So........and please pardon........the (hopefully temporary)solution was to have no/0 "client" ability to set text opacity. 😳

    • RE: Constant 4 sec freezing

      (MS x64/Win7/8gb ram)
Was experiencing very similar symptoms....freezing for a few seconds in varying operations.
(behavior reminds me of when an auto-save kicks in on a large file)

File size W/O imported .png plans elevations = only 1MB SU file.

I mention the file size w/o the imported .png images because they seemed to be the culprit.
(removing them from the file cured the delay....fyi: max tex on/off had no effect)

      Note:
I had 4 Arch D sheets in .pdf format (scanned) and saved them out of Adobe Acrobat Pro to .png file format.

Then, imported them to SU for tracing over/etc.
I do not recall any initial delays/freezing.......but the delays/freezing seemed to progress in time and frequency as I built up the model.

Eventually the delay/freezing became irritating and having the model far enough along I deleted (& purged) the imported .png images.

As soon as I did so the delay/freezing stopped occuring.

Before deleting the .png images I tried closing/opening sketchup as well as resarting the computer....thinking a memory leak or some such........in each case no performance improvement.

Anyway.....I think I could replicate the situation by re-loading the .png images....and possibly sharing the file if/as with Trimble folks.

      Best,

Yeah....thanks....It's weird...this machine was fine and all of a sudden it mis behaves like this.
When I say Bug....I mean it's like something gets corruped within SU (some sort of cache?)....I see talk about some having trouble with P lists and how that can be repaired...think that's Mac though.....any way...I'm getting into the weeds.

I am glad I can overcome it and use the max tex size now. (hopefully it helps others)

    • RE: Style Stroke Width (Sketchy Edges)

So......I prefer to have max tex size ticked.(imported image clarity)

This has been (really) bugging me........and so for anyone following this...this workaround helped me:

If you (temporarily) un-tick use max tex size and create scenes with your desired sketchy style(s) you can then turn use max tex size back on..... with no ill effects to the scenes with sketchy styles.

You may have to repeat the untick/re-tick if selecting a new sketchy style...but know that if it is not saved to a scene it will not (reliably) display correctly.

      Note:
Really makes me wonder why use max tex size causes this...almost like there is a bad connection to the sketchy style (stroke) image file(s).

IOW...one would not think use max tex size would cause blurred/heavy/pixelated sketchy linestyles (strokes).....I would think the opposite.....the linestyles would be more refined.........no?

Heck.......the more I think about it.......the imported images (max tex) in my file react accordingly to the use max tex size......untick....and the images blur......re-tick and they clear up.
      Regardless of scene attributes/settings.

Yet the sketchy styles "hold on" to the blurred/heavy/pixelated linestyles.....ignoring the un-ticking/re-ticking of the use max tex size.

      Okay.....rambling now.........thinking for sure this is a bug....not so much graphics card/other.

      Best.

      Hi,

I have a SU port in LO that I want to adjust the height of, showing more of the SU model. When I pull the bottom edge arrow the image does not change then the edge jumps past the place I want it to be. When I move it back it moves past again. It misses by a long ways (perhaps 1" or more in the scale the printout would be). How can I control this? I haven't seen this behaviour before.

changing from raster to vector or hybrid sharpens the line quality but does nothing though to achieve what i want: namely, sharp, 90degree corners that aren't rounded.. =(

      anyone have any other tips?

I had not noticed this before(unfortunately I do not have an answer).......you appear to be very close up in the attached image........are you creating documents at that scale?

Obviously the smaller the scale the less likely one will notice the rounded corners.

Also...It appears (at leat to me)it is related to the pen settings.
IOW.....in an exported .pdf.......if I turn the display pen settings off...the lines are crisp 90Β°........I know......Still does not help you.

    • RE: Interactive Presentation/Animation

      ntxdave,
If I understand.....why not look at creating a.pdf "portfolio"
It will require you to have Adobe Acrobat Pro (maybe you have already?)

If you create your "slides" (pages) in LO and either export to .pdf or print to .pdf you can then convert the file to a .pdf portfolio that you can share wih your clients/etc.

Backgrounds/colors/styles of the portfolio can be custom or just use stock templates.

Upload a small .pdf file and I can quickly create a portfolio if you like.

      Charlie,

I get the results you show in your second screen shot with certain OpenGL settings. On my PC, the line styles behave themselves with Hardware Acceleration turned off.

      Hey Dave,
Well.......maybe it is a graphics card issue after all?

Seems strange to me though that the sketchy edge styles (tied to image files) act up only when "use maximum texture size" is selected. (Hardware Acceleration off on my machine exhibits even more anomolies)

Would be nice to know what.......if anything......is amiss.
(Reminder..I think the viewports in LO ignore this anomolie...discussed earlier in this thread) πŸ˜•

Until then.......I will try my best to remember to disable/manipulate the "use max tex size" when this occurs.

So.......almost a year later.....and having use maximum texture size ticked.......this bit me again. (how could I not immediately remember this thread) πŸ‘Š

Anyway........I can add a little bit of info here:(perhaps useful to those having this issue)

It seems that if you toggle the "use maximum texture size" off..... and purge the unused styles, you can then toggle "use maximum texture size" on again and the sketchy styles will display/behave as expected.

I remain perplexed by this..........is it a Bug?
If it were a video card would it not be "consistent"...IOW...as soon as use max tex size is back on one would expect it to foul up right away...........maybe not?
