Hello everyone, it's been a while since I've been around...

Anyway, our fire department just purchased a semi-used Pierce Dash Rescue Engine and currently the engine is red with another departments lettering on it. I was asked to put together some views of the engine in our coloring, but blank for the purchasing committee to add our logo, etc. to the model.

I believe sub-divide and smooth and sandbox tools is good enough for a snow scene.

I am not sure a ruby would work right, unless ut's coupled with some sort of randomizing algorithm as snow does not accumulate evenly, and on steeper surfaces it won't gather.

I had a quick go at using sub-smooth on a few horizontal surfaces of a stock wooden fence to give an illusion of snow, I think it works fine.

      then rendered it with vue.

WOW! very nice, I'm new to the sub-smooth thingy so I may have to mess around with that... so far that is very impressive...

      Thanks guys!

πŸ˜† to bringing it out to MN

I think I'm just going to wing it...

Perhaps if I get a chance I'll share my progress.

    • Snow?

Is there any type of Snow ruby? I'm trying to add about 12" of snow on a building and landscape (farmhouse and barn)...

Is there anyway to do this?

Great to see you posting again CADken, it has been a while.

What is the intended use for this cabin?
      Rendered in Podium I presume?

it has been a while, that's for the warm welcome back! I wish I could model more with SU, but it's finding the time πŸ‘Š πŸ˜†

the intended use for this cabin is just to serve as a simple living space... it has three rooms which are small, but only intended for up to 2 people.

      • Kitchen* Bed/Bath Combo* Living Area

Right now this is the "shell" of the building, for some reason I was intent on completely the outside, then work my way indoors.

I am using SU and Kerkythea

This is for a competition on an AutoCAD forum, I suggested/created the competition, so I am unable to participate in it. Here is just an idea I've been messing around with... having a bit of trouble applying the wood texture to the logs, but anyway...

Here's some of my recent work/ideas:

you have a lot going on in the final renderings, the text kinda steals away from the "art" of the car...

i like your concepts tho, very cool and futuristic...

by the way, what is the emblem?

      Hi CADken,

I suggest that you keep the two types of work separate
      as they don't really mix.

Design a NEW site for the House Modeling and improve
the Fire Engine site and leave it dedicated to this
      work.

I am attaching some comments that might help to get you
on the right track. You have all the information there,
its just a little difficult to read.

      Mike

Thanks you very much for the input! The site suggestions are very helpful and are very much appreciated. I recently "edited" out a lot of text on the "home" page as I thought it was cluttered and I haven't had the time to fix it up (hence all the "dead space").

I will take your suggestions and I will most likely use/follow all of them as they are a fresh look to my site's current condition.

Again, thank you for taking the time to check it out and offer some much needed input!

    • RE: Website ideas

Thanks for the input, right now I'm taking photos of fire company's apparatus and modeling them for fun... right now it's just to showcase what I can do with SketchUp. The fire company I belong to uses the models to determine whether or not there is going to be issues entering certain facilities in our first due (turning radius, enough overhead clearance, etc.)

As far as houses, I have modeled a few of them but haven't put them on the web (one might be floating around the gallery), these both were done to help people see what they could do to their house and how it may look with those additions.

I just like to model for fun and want my website to be a fancy "portfolio" of my works, but with a focus on th fire service, as well as home modeling.

    • Website ideas

      All, i'm at a loss.

I currently have two obsessive hobbies; modeling houses and modeling fire apparatus. My current site is crap and I need some ideas on how to showcase my house modeling as well as fire apparatus modeling skills.

      Website in it's current condition.

I have done the layout all by myself and I'm not satisfied with what I have.

I appreicate any help, or any samples of sites for model showcasing.

alright, I worded that wrong, I'm not looking for actual "material" I was wonder how to create a drape effect to simulate the canvas shown in the picture above.

is the sandbox a part of the free version of SU?

I'll search for those ruby's thanks!

    • How to create Canvas-like materials?

I see people have shared files of curtains, but I was wondering what would be the best approach to create the red canvas material as seen below?

      http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k242/KensNikonL3/761-Rear.jpg

And to go a step further, how about raise lettering like that?

Just curious is anyone has any pointers on either questions.
