Well for the material, if you can find a suitable pic of some canvas (colour doesnt matter too much) you should be ok.

If its the wrong colour, then you could bring it in to a photo editing program and desaturate the iamge. You could then either apply a semi transparent layer of red over the top or you could colour it in SU in the materials editing window.

As for the raised letering, you could probably do it by playing about with the drape tool (part of the sandbox), TIGs textag ruby and fred06's joint push pull ruby.

alright, I worded that wrong, I'm not looking for actual "material" I was wonder how to create a drape effect to simulate the canvas shown in the picture above.

is the sandbox a part of the free version of SU?

I'll search for those ruby's thanks!

The sandbox is a great start, make a large rectangle and divide it until you have a mutitude of faces to work with. Using the smoove tool you can start creating your creases, or you can select faces and use the scale tool to create contours too. Then there is also the move tool that is great for creating the finer details by selecting vertices and faces and moving them in the directions you require.

Once you have the shape and draping effect you desire then you can use 3d text to intersect the model and JPP to get the text raised if needed.

Once all that is done then resize smaller and smooth accordingly.

It might also be worth looking at using free form deformation (see the ruby forum if you havnt got it) to get the creases.

Surely youve heard of FFD 😮

basically it makes a matrix of control points around a group, you can then edit these control points to deforem the original group in a naturaul way.

solo, very nice... I'm still trying to figure out how to do it, but basically you have what I'm looking for...

I just need to figure out how to create the canvas on the back of the apparatus...
