very nice for a concept... although around here those tires would be gone and replaced with tracks and i'd be referred to as a "track hoe"... plus a backhoe is usually a type of tractor with a bucket in the front and a hoe in the back.... hence "backhoe"

sorry, coming from a construction family i'm weird like that.

WOW! Simply amazing! I love your work and the SU raw pics next to the renderings was a nice touch!

      What was your rendering program?

CADken - thanks very much for your contribution - fabulous!!! I'll try that technique - the only orthographic views I found were of an Audi which were used in a Rhino tutorial.

Is there a great source for finding a bunch of 3 views of cars?

Thanks for your comment - I'm trying, it's frustrating & fun at the same time. My progress is slow . . . posts like yours are very encouraging - this keeps me going and teaches me how to do it the right way - that's cool.

      Happy Sketching,

in my travels: http://www.smcars.net/ and http://www.the-blueprints.com/

these are two sites dedicated to modeling cars and anything for that matter with blueprints... they both have great databases for car blueprints... i have a few Acura car blueprints handy, as well as a few Honda blueprints.

it has a lot to do with faces and such... I model cars in 3Ds Max and it's no picnic there either... here is what I do in 3Ds Max that you can apply to SU:

      1. Use Blueprints to Model from.

      http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k242/KensNikonL3/3DBox2.jpg

      1. Create faces and move the vertex of each corner to match the blueprints.

It sounds simple and 3Ds Max is great for car modeling, but I'm sure some advance SU users can do this in their sleep...

btw, your model is looking good so far!

      You mean like so?
Just a transparent trapezoid to represent the projector rays (edges hidden). Suggest a white color for ray surfaces with low transparency settings rather than my blue. Then just paint a texture image of your choice on the screen.

awesome idea! i appreicate the suggestion I will make use of that for sure...

As i said, here are some of my photoshopped ideas:

    • Projector Light?

I have an interior office drawn in SU, I have some desks and chairs I got off the google SU component site to help fill my office (purely just to make my rectangular room look like it's actually something)...

This model is showing how a aspirating smoke detection system can be installed with a drop ceiling in a typical office setup and how unnoticeable it can be. (Aside from the obvious orange piping and such).

Anyway, I have a projector mounted on the ceiling and was wondering how I could make it look like it's casting light with a picture onto a screen? I am going to photoshop what I mean and post it in a few minutes. I'm assuming in order to do this and make it look real I'm going to have to pursue some type of rendering program huh?

Give me a few minutes and I'll post my work.

i always wondered about the people that buy 8 gallons of milk and 8 loafs of bread and 8 dozen eggs before a snow storm... are they planning on a french toast feast?

πŸ˜„ this winter has been mild for us in PA, i wish we had gotten more snow this year, but hey... i hope we have a nice summer.

yes I have, there is a model of mine that used the SU Animate feature to show red arrows going through a smoke detection system. It's just a fancy add-on that creates "animations" faster than doing it manually.

Here is the work I did with the SU Animate:
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXg9VWmQcG8

It uses some of the very basic animation techniques shown on this very forum. Using the same principles I created this very short animation of a fire truck pulling out of a station... the SU Animation program is nice, but you should really save yourself the money and just do it manually.

Hi Ken and welcome back. Actually your account hasn't been disabled or inactivated - we have just moved to a new board for basically technical reasons. Yes I saw your name among the newly registered members and have already re-attributed your old posts to you (as you can see you have some 55 posts now).

ah, thanks! i thought there was some reason why i came up "unregistered", i appreicate you updating my posts as well 😍

haha, yeah i typically float around there and try to help out and answer people's questions, but lately my interests have been elsewhere. I enjoy this forum and people here really turnout some truly amazing renders and such, so I'm glad to be able to share my work and be inspired by others here.

yeah... i ended up reading the basic one and really like the whole layers thing.. i never thought of that 😲

here are some animations I've done with some plug-ins... but I really like to try to "animate" on my own without plug-in assistance.

I usually get stuck when using square corners on something that should have been rounded corners (like the cab.) It'll be interesting to see how you get out of it, or if you need to "do-over" on some parts.

i'm not sure... i might be able to create a circle and then use the "follow-me" tool to follow the edges and then subtract materials... if that's possible.

right now these are only just for mock-ups, there isn't going to be much detail on them... i might mess around with it and re-save it as something else and add details to it to see how much I can make it look like our own engine.
