    • SU2020 - Tags "Name" Column Width

Not sure if this is only happening to us but every time we open a Sketchup 2020 file the width of "Name" column resets under the new Tags ribbon? After adjusting the width so that we can actually some of the longer "Tag" names, it also resets if you simply minimize (collapse) the Tags ribbon.

      Any solutions?

    • RE: Too Many Section Planes are too foggy. Any suggestion?

When I do interior elevations in my models, I set it up in a new sketchup file and reference in my 'base' model. This way i don't have a million scenes or section lines in my main construction model.

Be sure to change your Layout 'viewport' from raster to vector before you export to DWG. This will solve your issue.

    • RE: Graphic Card for SU 2018

I am by no means a computer expert, but do have a little advise for you.

I recently got an NVMe 960 Pro M.2 Hardrive. This plugs straight into your motherboard and speeds up the save / autosave and updating Layout files a lot! I would highly recommend it.

I also have the same graphics card as you and love it. Just make sure you have a decent power supply to run it. I had to upgrade to a 750w to run it as when pushed to the max it would crash the computer. Sketchup won't push it to the max, but programs like Lumion will.

Good luck, I hope this helps.

    • RE: Auto-sizing text boxes

An additional item, why is that when you flip a note the text isn't smart enough to realize that we can't read backwards, mirrored text? Once flipped, to get the text correct, there are three additional steps required...

      1. Explode the text and leader (which is annoying)
      2. Flip the text again so that it is legible
      3. Hit left or right align so that the text is adjacent to the leader tail.

There is an alternate way of just moving the leader but that also requires multiple steps.

This applies to pretty much all text within Layout for notes, dimensions, section bubbles, grid lines, etc. ACAD has a nice simple toggle called "mirrtext" which easily addresses this.

      Pretty pretty please Sketchup/Layout team!

What resolution are you rendering in? I render mine to 4096x2048 then take it into adobe premier cc 2017 and start a new sequence VR 4096X2048 Ambisonics. Add the image into the sequence (you can even view VR by right click on the image and VR). Then export as H.264 and upload to Youtube.

      See example of mine below:

Effects are completed in after effects.

Let me know if you have any problems.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to try out JQL's idea. In the meantime I have attached the site plan SU file. I'm not sure why there is sooo many lines.

Does anyone know a simple way to reduce the amount of lines on this site plan? Seems a bit excessive to me.

    • Glass Refraction issue. Please help!

I'm having some issues with refraction. Please see the image below.

The glass handrail is magnifying the house behind.

I used the glass from the vray library. Have tried changing the thickness of the glass. Nothing has worked.

    • RE: How do I get section planes not to show up in layout?

This could be either 1 of 2 things (or both).

      1. Make sure after you turn off your section in the SU scene you right click on your scene tab and click 'update'. Then save and go to LO document setup > references > select model > update

      2. Styles. When you turn off section cut in a scene and update, you may be asked if you want to create a new style or update the current style. Try creating a new style.

You will need a separate style for sections and elevations. The Sections style will have the section cut enabled. The Elevations style will not.

    • Render to video Vray 3.4

I can't seem to be able to render to video using Vray 3.4. In the previous version of v-ray I was able to render to mp4 as opposed to an image sequence.

Does anyone have a way to get this working? Or am I missing a setting somewhere?

    • RE: 0.03 Showing as 0.3 in LO tables from Excel

Just a heads up that Dave is working with the LO team to resolve the issue. However in the meantime I would suggest using the ROUNDUP and IFERROR functions in Excel. For example:

      =IFERROR(ROUND(O11/5.678,2),"")

This has solved my issue in LO.

    • RE: 0.03 Showing as 0.3 in LO tables from Excel

I tried changing the cell formatting from number to text which did solve the problem. I could even keep the formula in the cell, but can't change the decimal places which is a bit annoying but I can probably solve that in a more complex formula.

Changing the table width in LO didn't appear to solve the problem, but maybe Dave can take a look and figure it out πŸ˜„

I guess it's half solved at the moment.

I've been trying to figure it out and can't seem to find the issue. Maybe a bug?

I have attached details of formatting in excel. Though I have not imported the formatting into LO.

This plugin is brilliant. The main thing I look for when trying a new program is it's collaboration with SketchUp and trying to keep everything in the same program so I don't need to do duplicate revisions. The panoramic, VR and walkthrough capabilities of this plugin are brilliant and it is being constantly developed. I see big things for Enscape.

Please check out my test run...

    • RE: Construction Documentation Practical Everyday Tools

A couple more thoughts and requests for Layout. I've used Sketchup/Layout professionally for almost 4 years now and could never go back to Autodesk but these couple of additions would make life much easier.

      1. Both metric and imperial dimensions - Autocad allowed alternate dimensions and this would be incredibly helpful rather than having to manually convert every single imperial dimension and then add the metric text afterwards. It's annoying because if that dimension changes, then you have to manually reconvert the metric dimension (that's if I remember). We still use imperial for our construction documents but for permit submissions Canadian municipalities (as well as every other country in the world other than 'Merica requires metric dimensions.)

      2. Layout Plugin's - we couldn't use Sketchup without plugins and Layout would be that much further along if Trimble opened up the program to private developers

      3. Three Steps to Update a Sketchup Reference? - I'll save my sketchup drawing easily 50 times in a day when trying to push a package out. Why is it that in Layout I have to click "Document Setup", then click the particular file, and then finally click update. One click to freedom people! Even better....don't make us have to update the file as I don't remember ever switching to paperspace and having to "update" the drawing.

      Thanks!
