Thanks for the improvement!

RE: [NEW]Sketchup 2 Vue

(4) We thought about this, but felt that it wouldn't be too useful unless we could provide some real-time preview in Sketchup of how the lights would look in Vue. Otherwise, you could spend a lot of your time going back and forth between the apps to "tune" the lighting. Thoughts?
In exporting to Thea I have all my lights added in SU using Twilight lights: I know, I know - not really a good workflow and requires having Twilight, but.....When I get into Thea I group all the lights with the same name and modify them and see what they look like until I get it right without leaving Thea.
The point is, if one could add a Vue light proxy in SU and then group proxies that have the same name, then adjust them in Vue, wouldn't that be the same thing (without having to have an intermediate program e.g., Twilight).
My facility models have up to 75 lights or more! They are components in SU.

this has got to be some issue with Vue 9 can you go and install 8.5?
I have Vue 8 Complete and Automation -> Run Python Script works just fine as long as the exported model has no textures.
This is an improvement over Vue 9, but to have to "emasculate" all of my models and then re-texture them in Vue is not a viable workflowBesides that, this does not help with Vue 9

Not sure about Thea as I keep my models nice and clean. As I imagine you do as well Bob!
I'm currently using Thea and am trying to get started in Vue9.
When you say you keep your models nice and clean, what does that mean? (and since I don't know what that means I probably am not)
That's what I'm trying to pin down: what is "best" and "clean" - back faces nil or not [and whatever else is included in "clean"].

Good Modeling Technique
I've been reading several posts involving plugins dealing with materials on back faces and want to be clear on good modeling technique.
Is this true?: Good modeling technique requires that the back faces have no materials added (that is, the back faces are all nil)

Same as before, grey toolbar set with no icons displayed.
I have the same problem: the toolbar is there but no icons.
My icons are stored in:

there is a "remove all materials" plugin it leaves all groups and components but removes all materials recursively.
try it on the model and let us know if it comes in.
Used TT's great plugin "Materials Tools" and removed all materials and made sure all faces were front faces: All I get is a large ball in Vue9.

Thanks, I'll try that but if it won't even import a cube with no material......

do you have the new version or the update to the plugin?
What is the latest version of the plugin? I got mine along with Vue 8 Complete back in October.
I opened the ruby, but there is no date in it. I see a lot of \win32\ in it: I'm using 64-bit Win 7 Professional. Is that a problem?

RE: [NEW]Sketchup 2 Vue
I made a simple model: cube with cylinder on top - no color/material/texture.
When I import it by any of the three methods all I get is a sphere!
But at least I don't get the .tga error messages.
Not very encouraging

save a copy of your model and remove all materials, then try importing it into Vue. report back
How do I do that: it's a big model with over 80 different materials
-
RE: [NEW]Sketchup 2 Vue
None of the materials exported are .tga: they are all .png or .jpg.
When I try to import the .vob file I get the errors looking for 191_tx01_402.tga, etc. (there are eight of them - I have no idea what material/texture they are linked to).
So I've tried:
- Automation -> Run Python Script [All that appears is a large sphere]
- File -> Load Object [asks for .tga, cancel->Vue crash]
- Import .vob [asks for .tga, cancel->Vue crash]
Edit: I also have Vue 8 Complete and I get the same result with it. As a matter of fact, I get the error messages when I use Automation -> Run!!!
I'm at a loss

RE: [NEW]Sketchup 2 Vue
I am unable to load a SketchUp model of a house into Vue 9. I'm attempting to use the SU2Vue ruby script in Sketchup 8 Pro.
Upon completion of export from Sketchup, I get a .vob file and a folder with an .xml file, a .py file and many .jpg and .png files.
I have set the Camera Height to unlocked and Point Sun at Camera disabled.
I've also unchecked "Preserve size of natural elements at creation"If I use the Automation -> Run Python Script all I get is a large ball as the model.
If I try to use File -> Load Object I get an error statement saying that it can't find the .tga file xxxxxx.tga. If I say no to it's query to look for it, Vue crashes.
A truly distressing introduction to Vue

@unknownuser said:
I got this tree earlier from this very forum, but I don't remember from whom and I'm too lazy to look it up.
I find it very useable. Also the texture for the leaves is neatly colorizable to green or whichever color you wishI tried to render this tree in Thea, but all I get is planes. Am I expecting too much or .....?

So you can have only one plugin in the plugins folder and have SketchUp work.
Even no plugins

RE: Grayed-Out Right Click Menu
TT: used your scripts and all now seems to be okay. It was nothing obvious but seems to have been a script left over from my 3D mouse: it kept looking for a central rotation point. It kept repeating it over and over in the ruby console.
Many thanks - sure hope that problem is really gone. Been staying steady at 451/1000.

RE: Grayed-Out Right Click Menu
I'm going to give contexmenuoptimizer.rb a try. If that doesn't work I'll yield to desperation and try to get rid of some plugins.
@notareal: I re-read them but did not really understand them enough to try them

RE: Grayed-Out Right Click Menu
Arrrrgggghhh
Still have the problem: the previous "fix" helped, but not for long.

If you don't have either of these other plugins, could you temporarily rename your "Plugins" folder to something else like "Plugins1", then create a new "Plugins" folder, place only InstantRoof in that folder, and restart SketchUp. If the script works then we'll know it's a conflict with some other plugin.
Chuck
As I recall it, there is a set of plugins that mustbe in the plugins folder: I don't believe you can, in this case, have only InstantRoof by itself.
Sorry that I don't recall the required minimum set.
