@mitcorb said: Have you tested Fredo's ThruPaint for this? Maybe some other UV tools? I assume you have posted at tgi3d support? I think this is really a SU problem, as it is SU who splits a smoothed face into lots of small triangle face texture files/materials? Thanks for the tip, but according to the docs about it it doesn't seem to be able to do this job, although it looks like a very useful (which I have had installed for a while, but never really used..). After fiddling around with the tgi3D Create Texture, I'm starting to get a better grasp of what what works ok and what doesn't. What is interesting too is that with the tgi3D Move tool vertices can be moved around without scrambling the textures/UVs. Works very well for finetuning "UVs"

Hello, I am trying to import a DEM into SU Pro 2015 (MacBook Pro, OS Yosemite) and am having difficulties. I downloaded elevation data from web-site (search for "Mntopo' web site) in the form of a DEM. The resulting files were of extensions .bil, .hdr, .xml,.....I had no luck importing. I tried downloading from the same web site in a different format , the extensions were different (and many). Still, I had no luck importing. Any suggestions? I am trying to create a 3D model of a wetland mitigation site. Thank you! Best, Jeff

Using 123D Catch from autoCAD I was relatively pleased with the elephant which is fairly complex form so I thought I would test a simple case like a box for dimensional accuracy and I ended up with some surrealistic and cubistic, but not rectilinear results. I would love to sit down and wrestle this thing to the ground but I am moving down close to the Mexico border and also have an important photojob to do and need to sell the Phoenix house. When and if things slow down I will give this 123D thing another run.

@mike lucey said: Bjørn, I also use Opera 11.61. To check out P3D, I downloaded Opera Next from here, http://www.opera.com/browser/next/ It does not overwrite Opera 11 and can be run separately. The WebGL images loaded / worked perfectly Nice to know that it doesn't overwrite Opera 11. Maybe I should give it a try then, although it looks like I'll have to make object-movies for this project, to make it more widely viewable.

I have recently updated my GE to the latest possible version and have no isues with it at all (also on XP). As for the skirts: yes, it's good if the edges merge a bit as there is less risk for gaps should a terrain update happen. Just model the skirt as small (extent and elevation) as ultimately necessary - and especially be careful to affect the surrounding buildings' footprint as little as possible. I do not know how the GE terrain and the one imported can be so different however. But now with SU 8 (as you have it), you are actually not importing straight from GE but from Maps (they share the same database I believe)

Well, I don't know how useful it would be to know exactly in what procedure it happens. I'm a bit surprised that other user(s) (only one report so far) reports 0% CPU with Twilight installed and SU in background/minmimized. I suppose it could be a conflict between Twilight and some other plugins? It's not really a big deal now, after I got a new CPU with 4 threads, as it only runs in one thread, making it around 5% CPU usage. The percentage was higher on my old 2-core CPU.

Is this the way you think it should look then?[image: 6TQN_Clipboard-30.jpg] That's how I understand what you're explaining, but IMO that looks very wrong.

As I started with 3D on a computer with 1MB RAM I'm still counting polys, always trying to make as few as possible The number of polys you use depends on how many details you want, and how many pixels you have available. For a 500k model I guess I would have had to shoot some closeups too. Or just PhotoScan the main shapes and use other tools for details. It is perfectly possible to make a detailed model in PhotoScan without using the Surface/Image matching tools. There are very powerful upsample/downsample tools, as well as smooth and redistribute functions. Vertex locking and fixing are extremely useful for many tasks other than modeling from photos. One of the great things with PhotoScan vs ImageModeler and Photomodeler is that you can use all the powerful tools and plugins in SU. The sides were here made with TIGs ExtrudeEdgesAlongVector.

@gaieus said: Well, the walls that we dig up are quite deep in the ground so I can more or less take photos from above standing there. However nothing is excluded - a year or two ago, a firetruck came and lifted the archaeologist up in the air to take aerials! Well. next time you volunteer to arrange the aerials session, and then you buy a pole and use the rest of the money for a PhotoScan license Seriously, I had an aerial photo job a while ago (the poles were far too short for an entire mall), and it turned out that it was cheaper to rent a helicopter for 20 min (it was very close to the airport) than to rent a lift/platform for a day (minimum). 40 min chopper flight == 1 PhotoScan license. @unknownuser said: But enough of the Off-topic buildings - this is not about them but your model. Actually it is about using and having fun with PhotoScan, but I found no other suitable category than WIP
