This brings to mind the stemless, round bottom glass that is new on the market. It will tilt and you can even spin it, but it wont spill, supposedly. From the looks and feel of it, the bottom interior thins as it rises, giving all the weight to the bottom, it seems.

RE: Model burns down!!
I never thought about the old and gone, till I saw you guys talking about it. The first thing that comes to mind is the San Francisco fire around 1908 or so, that would be neat. I only wish I could model like the rest of you can.

RE: Dimensions Added as Objects Are Drawn - Feedback Please
I think everyone that has ever dabbled in SU, let alone the ones that use it for productive purposes, such as work, is interested in this new avenue. I have been since getting into SU a few months ago, and have spent a bit of time studying Rubies. Here are my thoughts, not that they are worth much, or anything as far as that goes.
I too love all the different ideas that this topic has generated, but, rather than have all the aforementioned bells and whistles in the beginning, wouldnt it be feasible to start with some simple things that can be amended, altered, and added on to?
So far, we have all learned to live with what we have, some of us lately, some since the beginning, and some along the way. I would think that a simple start would be at least equal to where we are, then grow it into something that is of GREAT benefit and fits most everyones needs/wants.
I know what I think doesnt account for much, but its just some thoughts that have no bearing on anything.

RE: Hatch script?
Thanks guys, I'll give it a whirl. By the way, do you have any recommendations?

Hatch script?
Is anyone working on a hatch script for sectioning to represent a solid?
-
RE: Is there an "Undo" script?
Your right, I dont think thats what I had in mind. There are times that I draw something only to find that the geometry is wrong when I change the view. So rather than scrap the piece all together, I start "undoing" what I did and backing out of the errors till I get back to where I can start again. There are only so many times that Undo will work, and yes, you think I would catch it before it gets that far, lol.
Thats why I was thinking I saw an Undo script that would back up many times.
Thanks for the response

RE: Japanese type joinery
I like the simplicity of this but, I am a bit curious about the application of this type of joinery? I see that there is references to mechanical applications, are we talking about joints that have to endure stress, strain, shear, etc?

Is there an "Undo" script?
I may be imagining this but I thought I saw a RS that would let you UNDO many times more than what is standard? I saw one that would let you back up several views, but not an actual Undo.

RE: Converting a model to a solid
Eric
Sorry I didnt get back to you on the solid, but it worked but not the way I wanted it to. I think something like even a hatch of some sort would be ok, but I dont know how to do it.

RE: Converting a model to a solid
That didnt work so great, oh well. It was worth a shot
Thanks for the help...Mike

Converting a model to a solid
I created a piece that has turned out hollow, NOT solid. How do I make it a solid?
Thanks....Mike

RE: Another "How would you model this?"
Well, after several hours work, I finally got it, dont know how, but I got it still. Here's what it should be, let me know what you think

RE: Another "How would you model this?"
Thank you for the help. I never thought of doing that to the roof, but that should work.
I was apparently unclear on the amphitheater, so I am including 3 files that should clarify my lack of communication. The amphitheater, as you will see, is the backdrop for a stage. As I said in the original post, the original drawings were done on DeltaCad, so I had to convert them to SU.
Let me know what you think, and thanks

Another "How would you model this?"
I have 2 different scenarios:
-
How would you model an amphitheater?
-
I have a building design that the wall rises as it gets longer. The problem is when I try to put a roof on it by creating a face, I am told the edges are not planer. How can I resolve this?
I will try to download some shots of it. I am new at SU so bear with me, I did the original plans on DeltaCad, where everything was done in 2D and perspective. I will gladly attach them if that will help.

Curved or Arc Steps
I have created a series of steps. Some areas are faces, some are surfaces. Whats the difference? and does it matter?

RE: Sketchyphysics animation
I have been studying some of the models that have been animated with SP. They are great indeed, but it would be nice if someone would elaborate a bit on the overall functions. I have drawn a nutcracker that I would like to animate, but I have some questions.
- I find that I am having to scale down the joints to fit my model. Is this standard or an I doing something wrong?
- Does the hinge direction make a difference?
- Is a floor necessary?
- Do primitives have to in the scene somewhere?
If anyone can answer these, that would be a start.
Thanks
Mike
