      Finally and at last!

Fingers crossed for a version of LT eh? 😄

The correct expression would be "again!" 😄
(in the stone age there was a short-lived release of version 12 - that was before AutoCad was available for Windows, if I remember right)

It's the old,old (windows 3.0) Undo button. It might be hardwired into Windows.

    • RE: Page name print on sheet + PDF export question

Something like a "field" in AutoCad or Word in combination of a set of user-configurable file properties would be nice to have, especially for the recurring information that is now put on an "On every page" layer.

    • RE: MAC version 3 non functioning DWG/DXF export?

Note too that if your Layout viewports are set to raster (or hybrid) rendering, the exporter creates a separate raster image that is xref'd into the resulting DWG file. I wonder if all DWG viewers are able to display xrefs or inserted raster images.

Another guy just asked this in the Google forum, and it seems that to authorize SU 5 in Windows 7 you have to run it as an administrator and in XP compatibility mode. Otherwise using Compatibility mode seems to produce error messages...

    • RE: SimLab 3D PDF plugin adds Sketchup 8 support

I just tried the earlier version. In Windows 7-64, from SU 7.1, whatever settings I saved, the resulted file had Auto Camera on, which is very irritating. Is this fixed? Or, was this only a feature of the Free version (that seems to have disappeared in the newest one)? The earlier version had no documentation about enabled/disabled features between the paid/free versions.

I have used a Mac and a Windows PC, so the right answer must be Linux because I know almost nothing about it, and I have never seen an "I hate Linux" forum post...

How about adding a property to make a layer non-printing? In addition to "guide lines" it could be used for comments, memos etc.

      i finally found a way
in autocad i saved the file as pdf,
then by a pdf-to-dwg converter program i created a dwg file again,
when i import this dwg to sketchup it is already in 2d
thanks again for all your help

There is also a "flatten" command in AutoCad, it is part of the optional Express tools set.

    • RE: Video card error, or sketchup error?

It is sometimes possible to remedy this kind of screen errors (mouse trails or similar)by turning off "Use Fast Feedback" and leaving Hardware acceleration on. This has almost no negative effect on SU performance.

    • RE: Back edges vs Transparent

I would guess that the feature is incompatible with the x-ray mode. You can just re-select your saved style from the styles browser to turn back edges back on, no need to rebuild the style. Changing style-related settings and then changing the settings back seems to leave the style flagged as "changed".

Consumer law surpasses all EULAs. But of course, those laws usually concern only individuals, not company buyers.

I understand that Autodesk just lost an important lawsuit that was just about the licensing versus ownership issue.

    • RE: Hello Im new, I need urgent advice on graphic error.

      Some possibilities:

      • as suggested, z-fighting: two faces on top of each other
      • problem with graphics card driver (you could try upgrading)
      • model might be located far (like a kilometer or more) from the SU origin point, or it might have parts (one short line is enough) that are laying somewhere in "outer space".

Is anyone else getting faceted geometry for round smooth objects?

explode and regroup. works with most render apps.

      Doesn't work with Render(in).

If Abvent uses the same terminology with Render(in) as with ArtLantis, the function is called "Merge Vertex". In ArtLantis it appears when you right-click on a material in their materials manager.

I would guess that the price ought to be somewhat cheaper than ArtLantis Render, that is in the same price class as SU Pro.

2nd edit: It has taken me precisely 5 minutes to see that there is not much new there. Layout 3 looks very interesting though. Dwg export makes it worth buying.

I used the DWG Export in Layout3 and it seems to be kinda fake... it does export the layout lines to Auto-CAD and it converts text to actual Auto-CAD text, however the Sketchup model itself does not export out of layout as vector lines. it comes out as a referenced image in the dwg file.

If your SU viewport uses Vector rendering, the DWG output has vector lines.

Are you saying that AutoCad "Architect" can read and write SU's skp files? What release do you have access to?

No, it cannot (and I have access to the latest releases). Revit can import SKP.
