Gaieus, you are sure right about non-profit, plus sweat-equity on recovering about 30 km of trails in my younger days. I really appreciate what Google Earth free allows us to do, it is a great service. Now I have work on my 3D SU models to populate the local GE terrain. Cheers

Hi Alpmeadow, I think this would be agood idea. My interest is in making models for GE. I find the discussions of organic modeling, rendering, architechture, etc. interesting, but they don't relate directly to my area of particular interest. I've already suggested to Google that the 3DWH should have a seperate catagory only for GE models (and those aimed at GE.) Tom

Thanks Tom for your response on GE/SU, I have to volunteer at the hobbyist level too. I see many questions about GE on this forum, and there isn't a corner to collect these threads or meaningful contributions like many of the other SU friendly software. I believe that Google will continue to enhance the GE/SU crossover modelling, and where and how to follow these developments is my question? Certainly, it may not be in the interest of the forum board and moderators, to take on more GE/SU content. I couldn't agree with you more, Tom, there is some really good work been done, but its been lost in the sheer volume of content(3DW). I'll have to take another ride on the London Eye.(I'm sure sketchphysics could give this ride a real spin!) Cheers alpmeadow

Golden Greetings Mut and DMA Its been awhile, my 3D wood carving continues in learning phase and SU does help in converting 3D in my cnc software called designer. However I don't have its full version yet. The best I can do for now is take my SU model and using styles and fog to blacken the background and improve its depth appearance. SU models are saved as png from which I import into designer. It is then adjusted to carving face and depth. The final design model is then sent to the cnc machine with various router bit selection for final carving. Here are some samples of my work. I am mostly carving wood working projects, recreation, natural scenes and wildlife signs and have much more development work to do. Good luck with your projects. Ive never had any problems with SU and vista, and you don't often hear aobut them, its usually more to do with graphics drivers and (intellipoint) mouse software In terms of purchasing a laptop for SU stuff, the things to look out for are a dual core processor with a highish clock rate (2.4 ghz or thereabouts) and a proper graphics card. Of the two the graphics card is probably the most important, lots of laptps use integrated graphics to save money, but these dont work with SU. If you can, go for a quadro graphics card as they generally have the best drivers for supporting openGL (the thing SU uses) Its also very important do shop around, as different places have deals on all the time, and dont feel presured to buy a computer, i can sometimes be worth waiting for a it to try and get the best deal possible.

BTW Gaieus I am slowly working on a SU model of my lodge(with the logo scene, thanks) but it has 14 rooms, 12 bathrooms, and a 28 feet high open greatroom. Seems easier to build the real thing 11 years ago. Cheers alpmeadow

Thanks for the compliments. Does anyone have any tricks to create a deceptive SU 6x0 in their models? Cheers
