I am not sure what was going on there (unless it is also combined with some graphic display issue) but you should carefully follow a very important rule in Sketchup: never put raw ("primitive" or ungrouped) geometry on any other layer than Layer0. What's more (especially while you are getting familiar with the program), never even change the default layer to anything else than Layer0. Layers in SU do not separate geometry just control visibility. This also means that while drawing on one layer, you constantly merge with geometry on another layer or when you move something, "sticky" geometry will also me moved with it. Here is a good video demonstrating it: YouTube - Google SketchUp Technique Series: Layers [flash=480,385:15bruc50]http://www.youtube.com/v/fBdP499iw0Y?fs=1&hl=en_US[/flash:15bruc50] As the video also demonstrates, use group/components to separate geometry.

Yes, if the geography was in scale, it wouldn't look much different than a projected image. I picture a map or globe with the mountains and seas all exaggerated and obvious. Somebody somewhere must have something.

Only trucks, if I am correct. The last cars were made in 2000. I was never that interested in cars, but I definitely prefer such "oldies".

You are right. A transparent material (with a transparent image) does not receive shadow (just casts shadow). Sorry, I was wrong. And you are also correct that it does not receive shadow over 70% opacity. It only casts shadow when it is over. I do not know why I remembered incorrectly. In this case however, I can see no way you can cast shadow on a transparent surface - unless you draw the outline of the (supposed to be) shadow and make it darker this way "baking" it in the model. But of course, that will never be interactive (like when you change the sun position).

Type this into the ruby console: require_all("G:\Plugins") just make sure all of you're plugins are in "G:\Plugins" You're flash drive might not be named "G", in which case, you would need to type the letter of you're flash drive. require_all("F:\Plugins") Or, require_all("H:\Plugins")

Not entirely sure I understand the post. So you just want to bring the linework into SU? Your info says you're using SU 7.1? If you're using any Pro version you can import the .dwg file directly. Otherwise, I believe up through 7.1 free version you can download the plugin from google. I can find a link if you need it. -brodie
