SketchUP 8

I liked grabbing the Ariel from Google Earth better. The graphics coming into 8 seem a little fuzzy to me with this new method. I'll have to test it on some other regions, but it's a little clumsy, most likely because it's new. Old work flows die hard.

Can someone please tell me what has happened to the Plugin menu (Mac Pro Eval Version )??
You have to have something in the plugin folder in order for the menu to appear (something that requires the plugin menu)
(and the plugin folder isn't the same as for su7. You have to move or copy them to the su8 plugin folder)

Thanks for that!

In general, I think that 8.0 demonstrates Google's commitment to the product, and as $95.00 keeps the @Last team on the payroll, I am all for it. Haven't explored solids yet, but along with DXF for LO, the only thing missing is a Ruby API for LO. Maybe 8.1?
I don't think it is fair to remove features like dxf2skp from those who use SU free. Google could have continued to offer the 7.1 level of Dxf for SU free v8.0, reserving compatibility with Acad 2010 for Pro. But this way, someone will eventually write a basic translator as a plugin for SU free.
The menu is "sort of" fixed, and although it caused some problems at first for hackers like me, it is good idea tighten up API. Implementation of OpenGl is better, and my system runs faster. Installing a new version also provides the opportunity to clean up my plugins, and put into a file the ones I haven't used in a while. The move to the new version was fairly seamless, and I am easily up and running. "knock on wood"-) Back to the production boards.

Just tried to import a 2010 DWG that opens up fine in e-drawings & ViaCAD 7 and it stops half way through. Spins the beachball until I have to Force Quit SU everytime.
-
Did the upgrade to 8 Free, discovered that I lost about 30% of my plugins on the toolbar. It'll take a bit to go through and figure out which ones vanished.

The Google video demonstrating changes to Layout? First example file is my house
-
also, if you set location and import a mesh (finally in color!) and then open the components dialog you wiil find a category named: nearby buildings, that will import the building on the terrain.
Also, take notice that solid operations are awesome, but work only for pro... and that's bad

Looks like they removed the solar orientation setting in the geolocation area for manually setting the north angle in you model
Solar North toolbar now but so far can only toggle on/off.
Bottom two buttons dead at the moment.
Do work if I put icons into customized toolbar

has anyone used up their 8hrs yet?
i'm pretty close and i'm just wondering if it reverts to SUfree..
my company pays for my license but it's going to be another couple of days but i'd like to use it in the meantime..(that back edges view is real nice btw.. seems like i'll be using that a lot more often than xray now)

You guys are so un-grateful...
I like "Susan"...+1
Toolbar fix is nice and also ruby update... seems that SU2Thea freeze (win) is gone by that. General impression for me: some needed bug fixed and some minor new features... but a major version release - it does not add up. I really was expecting 64 bit version. -

Couldn't agree more... This should have been a v.7.2 or something...
That said... It feels more stable and seem to be handling high poly models better...
Also some of the better ruby plug-ins seem to work both faster and better...
But a major version release... Naahhh...
(but perhaps they've tweaked A LOT under the hood...??)@notareal said:

Just read this at the TWR Forum...

I was pretty disappointed that they said not only are they not planning to do 64bit, they don't even see the value of it!
(I think they are all Mac users anyway, which would explain why they aren't in a big hurry).

Did you copy the plugins from SU 7.x to SU 8.0?

Some lights about the new Push Pull 2.0?
Push/Pull pre-selected faces
@unknownuser said:
Select a face, then push/pull; it works just like the rest of SketchUpโs modification tools. Super handy when you donโt want to change your point of view.
-
Before PushPull would ignore pre-selected faces and only use the face you clicked on.
If you Pre-Pick in SU8 it will push-pull the selected face even if you are not clicking directly on it. -
Unfortunately, Google just wants us to model the world in 3D for it .... The program does not do anything innovative ... once again ... disappointment!
-
Jeez.. no 64 bit version in 2010? C'mon Google you've dropped the ball! You beta testers couldnt persuade them?

I have believed that was Push Pull multiple with preselect of some facets
