    Hello mwm5053:

Step # 1: You create your door and window table in Word and make and Excel's sheet, Work in this sheet.
Step # 2: save format. RTF
Step # 3: import the table into LO

    voila ‘‘

(You can edit the data in the shedule)

    I hope this helps you

    Regards

    Pedro

Don't use "Hide". Use layer control. Just setup layers for things you want to see or hide. Then set the layer control within each scene. The individual scenes in SU will remember the layer routine so you don't have to.

Could it be an issue of the scale of the SU model (size of image) in Layout?

Jeff, I'll look into what you say about Preview, but the file size issue remains. I think one part may be taking a vector image in one app as opposed to a raster image in another and directly making a pdf of them.

I have not tried taking either png or pdf from my CAD directly to LO. I think I wouldn't be able to scale as easily as I can in SU (using tape measure tool).

In the "good" example above I have to take the background into CAD and scale that. Sloppy.

Yes, that is exactly what I do. Works really well.

And may I ask you what do you do when you need to put height dimensions of this sort (attached)?
So far I haven't found them in SketchUp nor in LayOut.

In layout, use the stock scrapbooks or create your own.

    OK, thanks, Nick. πŸ˜„
I knew that. I was just curious if I missed some other way, more automatic like in the case of usual dimensional work. In this way you need to type height values yourself.
Luckily, there's not much of manual work here since usual construction documentation doesn't require so many of those symbols or at least requires much less than typical dimensions.

P.S. Your videos on YouTube are fantastic and I have just found out on other topic that you got even better working machine. πŸ˜„

Maybe hidden geometry. Make sure it is unchecked in the saved view.

The way I do it is to set the axes so the red axis is set to your required "horizontal", right click on one of the axes lines and then select "Align View". The model should then position on screen to the red/green plane. Zoom to where you want and save as a new scene for import to LO.

If all you are doing is rendering in Vector mode, yes, you still have the link between SketchUp and LayOut. If you then explode the SketchUp viewport, you only have Vector lines but no direct link to SketchUp.

I've already posted this wish in the wish list...

5.) Page numbers - and a date field.
I know it has been on the wish-list since v.2, but I really miss this function.

    6.) Ruby API in Layout.
Back on September 2010 I saw Bjanzen posted this...

    @bjanzen said:

you could encourage us to do ruby API in LayOut, and that's probably how that and man other features will get implemented.

By that Mr. B was referring to page number and date.

I like the presentation Dave and potentially support the feature request provided it doen't make LO any messier to use. For me the manual version doesn't have the right R.O.I. to justify the effort. My priority in this area would be to sort out co-ordination of element styles (and layers) which are corrupted by copying the style of a different element e.g. if I sample a text style it will also modify the style for lines.

I've learned to use my PDF995 to print PDFs out of Layout. It's much faster and the file sizes are 1000 times smaller with all the detail. It's a pdf printer port emulator.

Screen shot of Layers in my current LO project. I have watched a tutorial on "pages and layers" in Layout several times but this Layers page still is a complete mystery to me. I understand the concept of "layering", however I feel like this thing has a mind of its own. I am missing a crucial piece of understanding in this puzzle.

Not sure how one layer gets attached to a page, or unattached.

The right column that has the icon of a single or multiple pages: You click it to toggle between the two. In that screen shot, you have two layers "unique elements" and "on every page" set to be on every page. Any entity that is drawn or copied to those layers will appear on every page in the file.

You can actually set every layer to be on every page if you like. Then you control each page by visibility only. I do this to certain layers if I want to quickly reference something from another page. An example would be site plans. I set a contour lines layer to be on every page, but I don't necessarily want to print contour lines on every page. In that case, I just use the eyeball to control each page.

    good tip. πŸ‘

on my latest project I did something different from my normal method. All geometry below ground (incl. floor thickness's etc.) were in separate blocks/components and put on separate layers, e.g. "rising walls" as opposed to just "walls" above ground. took a little bit to set up initially, but it's a relatively small project.
