We had a a typical 4th with BBQ and fireworks with friends. But as someone mentioned we did talk a little about the meaning. I think the legacy of the Declaration of Independence (and the Bill of Rights) is for all people (the Enlightenment just didn't happen here, the colonies just had the opportunity). Now Liu Xiaobo is in prison, like others, for supporting Charter 08, proclaiming the same unalienable rights. We should appreciate today's freedom fighters on days like this. Charter 08 http://www.hrichina.org/public/contents/press?revision_id=89851&item_id=85717 As we raised a beer, we also reflected how the right to the "pursuit of happiness" was not just a throw-away phrase for the revolutionaries.

Does the name Barry Madoff ring a bell? He was sentenced to 150 years for running, essentially, a ponzi scheme involving about $65 billion. I'd call that justice. In the case to which you referred, it doesn't say what portion of the $3 billion that the CEO, Paul Allen, actually kept. Also, the fact that his crime was not a violent crime makes a huge difference.

@unknownuser said: Marcus, perhaps your question could have been better worded (as it relates to architecture)... Great explanation, Daniel...I suspected something about my approach was wrong by the overwhelming response I think I was asking too many questions all at once, as well. I guess I am asking about contractors like Adam (Earthmover), where he is competing directly against other contractors, and having a nice 3D render when going to deliver the bid will result in him closing more sales (vs. other contractors that just have a line drawing plan.) I guess most smaller firms don't have the time or knowledge to create such a model, and if that's the case, I could sell to them. One thing I've found is that smaller firms often don't think they have the budget for renders, but if I can show added value, I'm thinking they may try and like the service. Am I onto something, or just on something? Re diversifying, I'm really interested in modeling for 3D printing, and I'm working on some things there as well, but I'm not yet sure what my target audience is. Perhaps producing pieces of my own to sell? ...math art and 3D printing sound like a neat combination... I haven't looked in those 3D magazines, thanks for that and your other tips. BTW, I hope I don't come across as trying to advertise myself on this forum, I'm simply looking for advice. I don't want to step on any toes, especially those that have been here much longer than mine...lol

Bad design for a keyboard, maybe, but why are keyboards so often overlooked? It's the piece of computer hardware we have the most direct connection to and everyone seems to go for the cheapest one ever. Every (arch) firm I've worked for have always just used the free Dell (or equivalent) keyboards while spending thousands every other year on new systems. I got a nice keyboard at home but don't feel wealthy enough to buy one for work also -- although maybe I should considering the amount of time I'm here using it. Maybe this should be a separate thread but I'd be curious what keyboards people here (high percentage of designers?) use.

I'm sure solar energy and other 'renewables' have their shortcomings. Yet, assuming those will be dealt with as technology advances, is no absurder than thinking we'll eventually be able to safely contain radioactive waste indefinitely. Innit? @tfdesign said: (...) Why then should you be bothered to clean your car if you know perfectly well that cleaning it will do bog all to improve its performance? I'm thinking this maxim would only hold up in a lab setting. In the real world, you need to be able to see through your windshield.

A true con in everyday work is the annoying "search" (ctrl+f), when switching to another tab the searchwindow disappears and you have to reactivate it, better solved in FF But in the end Chrome made me forget FF pretty fast, espeacially the sync feature is fantastic, keeps all my pcs and mobiles up to date. Use: adblock smooth scroller smooth gestures ietab autocopy

@unknownuser said: @unknownuser said: from falling asleep in a soggy ditch? You'd have more experince in that field than me. Anyway I use Unocyclopedia for all my fact finding these days. Here's a link you'd enjoy.... http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Everton "Everton frequently claim that the majority of Scousers choose to support Everton F.C., stating that people from North Wales, Ireland, London, Norway, China, Spain, Pakistan, Jamaica, Siberia and John o' Groats support Liverpool." Haha I love that website, havent looked at it for ages, roll on un-productivity in work and reading uncyclopedia for the next 5 hours!

@stilteg said: I personally use the "DownThemAll" plug-in for firefox, it usually works fine, However, I have never tested it within a Google search ... google usually provides links to the webpages and not to the images themselves ... tried downthemall, it just downloads the thumbnails that show up.

I think it will look even better when it turns green. Let's hope they didn't coat it with something to preserve the new copper look.

I wounder how much of the technology must be licensed by Adobe, and others in order to be included in products like photoshop? As far as licensing, do any of you watch "Shark Tank"? There seems to be a question by developers whether, or not to license. Some want to control the development of their product, and choose to forgo licensing, at least for a while.
