Very good. Although not as big as this project, it reminded me of the dock project I helped get modified a few years ago. sketchUp and Earth came in very handy for that one, too.

We could have used glass plates but they were cost-prohibitive for us. The spindles meet the code for spacing but we won't mention the climbable part to the local inspector. No need to add more regs. Besides, I've had enough of those. The electrical boxes I was required to put in are so deep you can't see the receptacle without you lay on your belly and lift the cover. Then I had to put weather resistant/tamper proof receptacles in the boxes at $5 each instead of the standard sort at $1 each and which I already had from an earlier project. I think some of the regulations are alright but there's too many.

I agree, with Google taking on Apple and Microsoft the only winners will be the consumers. I look forward to my future Motorola Android phone.
  • Anyone used Shapeways to sell design?

I plan to start this week or next. I have ordered about 10 models from Shapeways, and plan to open my shop to start selling the first design I think is ready for marketing (just got the first test prints last week - more on that later, in another thread). I think their business model is great - for those who don't know, Shapeways allow anyone to sell things via a shop on the Shapeways site. It works like this: a designer models something, uploads the file to his/her shop, sets the price (cost from Shapeways plus markup), and promotes their product(via social marketing, blogs, etc). Customers come to the shop, place an order, pay Shapeways, Shapeways fulfills the order and pays the designer (the markup amount). Some pros: -zero cost to the designer -designer never has to stock inventory -Shapeways handles the money processing and any customer service issues Some cons: -Customer has to wait 2-4 weeks to receive the order while Shapeways makes it -Material selection is somewhat limited -Marketing is up to the designer, if you don't let people know about your product, nobody will buy it (this could also be seen as a pro...)

I just realized why these fire graphic resonate in my memory. The line work and the tonalities are very reminiscent of the Lascaux cave drawings.

We used to use Humbrol. Great memories! Still available I believe, at least in the UK.

I hear you on that one. I've been called many things, but Savant has never been used in reference to me. . .

I have been using it on my PC for a while now (love it, beats Facebook by a mile). I'll have to look for an iPhone app then, could be regional, but doubt it as here in Dallas we get everything first.

Easiest is to find some place in Paris, but instead of going to restaurants, you can just as people there where to find a market, and wander around to chose your pieces of food. Anywhere in Paris will have its own place ...

Chris thanks, but I am a retired old fart who is desperate to find something interesting to engage me. Ninety-five percent of the time I am very boring. However the other 5 percent of the time can be interesting. Following me around would either consist of watching me nap or make me very paranoid. Still, thanks for the kind words.
