Where to stay in France

I have been to France a lot, but would like to make another visit.

I have two (very different) main desires:

To be able to visit the Musée d'Orsay 2 or 3 times - to really have a chance to see things, read about them, and then see them again.
To stay someplace where I can purchase some food items at a market and cook some meals on my own.

I live in a country where almost every chicken is the same size, tastes the same, etc. I seem to remember seeing markets in France with lots of different options for the same types of food items.

(I once worked for a subsidiary of a company which distributed chickens - their "secret of success" was to ship each chicken as far West as they could, even if that meant shipping chickens a day or two to another city where they also processed chickens, to sell the 2 day old chickens there and to ship the local chickens even further west. They also processed flour with exactly the opposite goal - ship all the wheat as far east as they could before processing it)

So I am looking for either:

A. Someplace to stay in Paris where I can do both, or

B. Someplace to stay outside of Paris with a good train connection to the Musée d'Orsay, so I can get there in about 1 hour.

Any suggestions?

The Musée d'Orsay is pretty much in the tourist center of Paris so your budget is significant with regards staying nearby.
Also length of stay, you may be able to find a short term holiday rental which will allow you to have cooking facilities.

As to the markets and fresh local food, you'll get that anywhere in France, and most of the rest of Europe.

I'm sure our French friends will give you some more details but I feel they might need a bit more info from you. If not specifics of your budget at least how long you want to stay.

Easiest is to find some place in Paris, but instead of going to restaurants, you can just as people there where to find a market, and wander around to chose your pieces of food. Anywhere in Paris will have its own place ...
