Well, this is why I started this: because furniture software is VERY restrictive, NOT updated, rigid, ugly (shall I continue? )... and sketchup offers more possibilities, all we must to is to take advantage on them. For now I'm stuck because I try to understand better how to use "protected" and "private" methods. Since I wasn't forced to use them since now, it's a entirely new concept for me - I understand the principle... but I am not sure that I understand how to do what I want. Anyway... I don't have any experience in programming. This is why I started learning in first place.

I just joined the forum and found this thread on the HMS Ontario. As a model shipwright I was most impressed with your work. I had a question, how you were constructing the hull's and if you use any specific ruby scripts? I am working on a 16 gun brig and could use some insights.

@ sepo and Ecuadorian: I admit that this is my first intention... to realize a fully interactive experience using a game engine like Unity, but LightUp1.6 seems to have problems when exporting models that in the Unity scene showed up at the wrong scale or the wrong position so I can't do it. (now LightUp1.7 fix this problem) I think however that a "classic" video with immersive sequences take the same result with the advantage to let see the things you want people see. I want in the future make some test with LightUp and Unity for "virtual visiting architecture". I think this is a very interesting method to use in the near future...

Very nice rendering....but why would a person so retentive about keeping the room spotless and neat leave the bed rumpled?

Hi Nacho, I used easy preset 05 Medium +...... ...the render time was 69 minutes on my laptop which is only a 1.86 dual core.......you would get much better times with something with a bit more 'grunt'...!! (Solo would probably render it before he had time to lean back in his chair...!!) ...there are quite a lot of reflective surfaces and the model is busier than it may appear, so i am quite happy with the speed of the render ...resolution was 1230 x 600

Thanks Guys. Jeff, it's Garrett Hacks's bench. He built a new one after 30 years with the previous one. It certainly is very sturdy. There's a video of him talking about and using the bench on the FWW site. I finally got a copy of the magazine yesterday. I must say I'm pleased with how the images look. They don't look blatantly like SketchUp drawings and fit very well with the hand=drawn illustrations. It's different seeing them in print in the magazine than on the screen.

Hey Gareth - Where's my bottle of wine @tridem- I never actually thought about the floor looking plastic, and now i realise it when you say it! I agree a bump map would do wonders! The bottle is actually HALF full, you can figure it out if you look at the bottle above the glass and below it, you would notice the color difference, it probably is not apparent because the wine level (air media to wine threshold) is behind th wine in the glass!

Cheers kwistenbiebel Really like the output you got. As I said all the help here is fantastic - i need to go away, improve my models, materials, lighting, composition, read manuals, look at videos and then when I take my tail from between my legs and post a new render I will see how well I have progressed. Thanks again everyone for all your help. Cheers Dermot
