Hi Nacho, I used easy preset 05 Medium +...... ...the render time was 69 minutes on my laptop which is only a 1.86 dual core.......you would get much better times with something with a bit more 'grunt'...!! (Solo would probably render it before he had time to lean back in his chair...!!) ...there are quite a lot of reflective surfaces and the model is busier than it may appear, so i am quite happy with the speed of the render ...resolution was 1230 x 600

Thanks Guys. Jeff, it's Garrett Hacks's bench. He built a new one after 30 years with the previous one. It certainly is very sturdy. There's a video of him talking about and using the bench on the FWW site. I finally got a copy of the magazine yesterday. I must say I'm pleased with how the images look. They don't look blatantly like SketchUp drawings and fit very well with the hand=drawn illustrations. It's different seeing them in print in the magazine than on the screen.

Hey Gareth - Where's my bottle of wine @tridem- I never actually thought about the floor looking plastic, and now i realise it when you say it! I agree a bump map would do wonders! The bottle is actually HALF full, you can figure it out if you look at the bottle above the glass and below it, you would notice the color difference, it probably is not apparent because the wine level (air media to wine threshold) is behind th wine in the glass!

Cheers kwistenbiebel Really like the output you got. As I said all the help here is fantastic - i need to go away, improve my models, materials, lighting, composition, read manuals, look at videos and then when I take my tail from between my legs and post a new render I will see how well I have progressed. Thanks again everyone for all your help. Cheers Dermot

Thanks Guys, I'll check out those sources. I actually watched one "webinar" last night from the V-Ray site. It was quite cool. It was more towards using Photoshop after to enhance the render....well worth watching I must say. When I first started trying to render, I thought it was a process easier and quicker than what it actually is. I have put in quite a few hours in the last few days and NOW I realize that it is time like anything that you need to put in to get good at anything. The other important thing is that you should try to understand "why" you are using the settings the way you do to get the result you want. To just use input settings and numbers in the different fields because of a tutorial or manual will not help or speed up your learning curve. So, my advise to anyone new to rendering and or modeling is just be patient, ask questions and put the time in and practice. thanks for everyones help!!! Cheers, Jeff

hi, nice render..just add more light to it next time...try to bake the environment...u can do that by keeping backplate at same brightness and increasing environment brightness....its not the case that u will always get what you want from hdri light source...try different studio light setups to match up with the Backplate..have fun..!!

@solo said: Excellent responses guys, and I agree the top image just does not look right, I was not sure if the DOF was to strong or just wrong, to me it has a 'tilt shift' feel, just as you noticed David, it looks miniature. Just stumbled upon this discussion. At the risk of going taking it a touch off-topic, there's a dutch photographer that uses a technical camera and DOF to create this "miniature" effect with real-world objects on purpose. There's some nice examples of images from a building site here: http://www.martinluijendijk.nl/projecten/voortgang.htm Cheers.

the road is actually just a texture that I imported from cgtextures.com. Nothing special at all. I think the blurred effect is a result of me stretching the texture so far in one direction so that the road did not appear "tiled" in that view. That combined, with the motion blur of the car are probably what is giving you that impression. Then I vaguely added some cracks in photoshop to give a bit more randomness to the road... they are fairly unoticeable though and you probably cant even notice them.
