Well I spent some time testing this and I can't consistently replicate the problem, but it seems that sometimes when you record an animation multiple times the objects stop moving, no clue what that is about. But if you erase the animation (Plugins -> SketchyReplay -> Erase Animation), it will work the next time around, it has done for me every time. And if it's still no good upload the model so I can take a look at it.

that is a great question. I would like to know too because if I could animated something in Sketchup then export it for a game engine (UDK, Unity) that would be extremely helpful. I know FBX and PSK supports bones, but not sure if Sketchy Physics does...

Hi Solo, The animation won't really play smoothly in real time, at least not on my machine. So a screen capture would make a big mess. I'd like every frame, and no duplicated frames. I'd went to your site, but your contact page doesn't offer attachments. Send me an email, I will send you the Sketchup file, and you will see if you are / are not able to export the animation. If you are, then I will be happy to negotiate your fee. Ace Baker acebaker1234 [at] yahoo [dot] com

I'm having the same problem but only when trying to simulate lots at the same time. Here's the model and some pics. When I have only one oar there's no problem but with all of them the program crashes. NOTE! In this model I didn't attach the jonts and motors to the model yet. i believe the best results i got was to make a standin, a tiny box, that would be the part the physics acted on. the actual thing that moved, i set to ignore. group -----thingy-ignore -----joint -----litlebox i think it was, with just the joint and thingy in the group, the joints from other parts couldn't attach right or something, there'd be collisions. my complex models would be just the cylinders that touched the ground, and a bunch of little boxes that don't touch each other.

i just wanted to bang out some kind of list i could use to turn into an imvu pose. there's already an imvu exporter, perhaps pausing and exporting current position would do it... [ed] yaknow... if it worked, and the positions could be played back, it'd give sketchup a fully functioning keyframe animation system. i can't remember if it's been done yet, or i wouldn't mention it.

Well yes the names can collide with any preexisting variable, method or ruby command, there are too many to actually list but here are some of the simpler SP variables you should avoid: frame, a, b, x, y, leftx, lefty, rightx, righty, joyLX, joyLY, joyRX, joyRY, ... Easiest way to get around this is to use names specific to your model: car_motor, car_steering, boat_motor, track_distance, ... Also all names are case sensitive, so car, cAr, caR are completely different variables.

@chriswman said: Thanx for the reply but sketchup crashes everytime I try to "play". Does anyone else have a problem with that model crashing? It seems to work OK on my PC. To ChrisWMan: Is it just my model crashing or are you generally having a problem with SP crashing? I have attached a new file with examples of joining hinges and sliders. In this one I have not directly connected the hinge to the slider in case that is what is causing your crashing problem. Let me know if this one works. The small white connecting blocks can be made invisible if required. IndirectJoints.skp

hmm, i totally would have just used a bunch of motors and set the max speed somehow to a ratio... like, 1:2 gears, motors turn .5:1, controlled by same slider.

hi angy, good luck with it all, I'll show the truck my 7yr old daughter, she's obsessed with building houses... [not to be encouraged] one thing that we pull apart, paint and modify together is 'KnightGame' http://www.sketchupdemos.com/knightgame.zip there a thread in the forum somewhere as well. it's not the greatest game in the world but she loves that you can interfere with it, and it's seems to have sunk in that computers need someone to tell them what to do, and what to look like. and that person can be her... or me when she's being apathetic. john

Hi jemaxwell, If you you could upload a file with what you have so far it would be lot easier for us to pinpoint the problem. Offhand it may be the small dimensions you are working with. Try building a similar model with everything scaled up by a factor of ten and see if that helps. Do your objects seem to be dominated by the size of the joints? Kev.

Thanks guys, the idea is not actually mine I picked it up from a flash game called Cursor times ten I know the game messes up sometimes(freezes on me mostly, then I just reset SP and it's good) but no errors are displayed so I'm not sure what it is that needs fixing. But I updated the game so it will skip the tutorial once you pass it, even if you restart it will go to the challenge levels. Also you can edit the $intro_stage=0 value to just start at any level.

Maybe you can post a screenshot of the problem you are having, because I am not sure I exactly understand the problem.

I both love the idea and can attest that it worked pretty slick between Central Wisconsin USA and Southern The Netherlands. Blox has some pretty intricate models and it was possible to have substantiative discussions regarding them. (not that I was any help).

Well, first of all, the objects aren't set to convexhull. The convex shape will then form to the correct form that you want. However, the concave shape will not be the correct form. (It would be triangular prism.) So far, this option hasn't been made yet in SP (Although it can be bypassed by making many smaller objects in place of the larger one). So if you make everything correctly, it is possible. This may not be the best explanation, but I hope it helps. blok in blok tutorial.skp
