    • RE: Simplify this element

I have not looked at your file, but based on Jean's comments it sounds like you might want to run Overkill on the Autocad file before importing it into Sketchup. This will remove duplicate overlapping lines. There are also a number of CAD clean-up scripts including Flatten and Remove Faces, Close Open Line Segments, Extend Close Lines, Delete Short Lines, and Make Faces. I think all of these are available at smustard.com (some are pay). ThomThom's CleanUp script might also be helpful.

    • RE: Using DropBox and symbolic links with SketchUp.

Brodie, At work I removed the plugins folder from it's default location and pasted it into my dropbox folder. Then I issued these commands:
      cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google SketchUp 8
      mklink /D Plugins C:\Users\MyUserName\DropBox\Sketchup\Plugins
This created a new folder in my SketchUp 8 folder that linked back to dropbox. At home, I removed the plugins folder from the \SketchUp directory. Since I already have the plugins folder in my dropbox, I didn't paste it there. Then I issued the same commands as I did at work, but the new folder in \SketchUp 8 was not added. When you say "drop that" (the dropbox plugins folder) into my \Sketchup directory, do you mean to copy it? How is the link maintained if I do that?

    • RE: Using DropBox and symbolic links with SketchUp.

For some reason I can't get this to work on my home computer. I set it up fine at work. I followed the same instructions at home and it seems like it worked, but the link to the Dropbox plugins file did not show up in my Sketchup directory. I thought maybe I'd done something wrong so I typed the commands again and now it says: Cannot create a file when that file already exists. How do I delete the link that apparently doesn't work on my home computer, and what step do I need to do differently to link correctly to my dropbox files?

    • RE: [Plugin] Drop Materials onto Instances v1.1 20111019

OK with 70 downloads and no problem reports, I must be doing something wrong. Plugin is located in the Plugins folder. Start Sketchup...no error messages and no Drop Materials onto Instances in the Plugins menu. πŸ’ I removed SketchyPhysics because I know that sometimes causes problems, but still nothing. The code and file path seem pretty straightforward, but I can't figure out where the conflict would be. Are there known plugin conflicts that would prevent this one from appearing in my menu?

    • RE: "Photosim" Timelapse

I thought you had used a selection for the plants on the left around 4:10, but after watching again I see the brush palette open and that the selection was for the sidewalk. Thanks for posting this, and congrats on getting the job. It is always nice to think that the photosim might actually take precedence over engineering knowledge when it comes to winning work like this. πŸ˜„

😲 Awesome, Chris. How do you make the shadow selections for the plants?

      AcesHigh,
Joint push pull can be used to lower the mesh a given distance to account for curbs.

      @unknownuser said:

What if you want the road to climb a small hill (that exists on the mesh) but you dont want the road to be as steep as the mesh? You already have the road steepness.

How do you already have the road steepness? Do you have a road profile or 3D polyline from CAD that you're working from?

I guess I don't understand how you envision this working. How would the plugin know that you want a certain segment of the road to follow the existing grade, and a different segment to be cut into a hill at a flatter grade? What about the road in a fill section? CAD programs solve this by utilizing a combination of horizontal alignment and profile data, typically based on stationing. Do you want to create something similar?

Don't get me wrong, I think what you're asking for is great. I use SU for this type of work too. I'm just trying to figure out what form you see it taking.

This is how the Sandbox tool should have worked from the very beginning. Awesome work! πŸ‘

The Tigtools folder in the zip file is empty. Is it supposed to contain the toolbar icons, or do they still need to be designed?

    • RE: [Plugin] Component Array (Updated 27-Mar-2014)

Thank you for updating the script. It works better...groups and sub-components no longer show up. The list now shows each instance as a unique component. Is there a way to filter it so component names only appear once?

    • RE: [Plugin] Component Array (Updated 27-Mar-2014)

I love this. I know I will use it a lot. Is there any reason the component selection window includes groups? Lots of components include sub-groups and that makes the list quite lengthy. Would it make more sense to only include components? Maybe you have a reason including groups that I'm missing.
