Hey, another non standard gallery post from me. This is another Photosimulation I did earlier in the week. You can see I did use SketchUp and Thea in it though 😄 So I feel it qualifies to be posted here in the gallery.

I made a timelapse video of the process (using Chronolapse ). I cleaned up the timelapse to get rid of a lot of flickering menus and zooming and panning. So it fairly easy on the eyes to watch.

Here's the Youtube description I made:

    @unknownuser said:

This is a Photosimulation I did for a recent project we bid on. The idea is to show the client what our vision is for their site.

This photosim took about 10 hours. I took a shot every 3 seconds. The video is at 15frames per second. So each second of video represents 45 seconds real time. But I cut out a LOT of crazy panning and zooming that made it hard to watch.

I also use SketchUp and Thea renderer briefly in the video.

I attached a pdf of the final images as well. 1st image is the existing conditions. 2nd image is initial improvements to the pedestrian realm - make it accessible and ADA compliant. 3rd image is the final buildout with nice road improvements, and a small gateway like feature for the bike path.

Direct YouTube link so you can watch it larger, smaller, etc:

Wow, you guys were fast. sorry, it took me a few tries to get the video to load correctly. I also added a pdf file with the final images in it at a little higher quality in case you want to look a little closer.

The quality is not perfect on the photosim work, but it was pretty good for one I had to get cranked out in one night. And we ended getting the job, so that was awesome. I like to give all the credit to my photosim 😄

😲 Awesome, Chris. How do you make the shadow selections for the plants?

                        Thanks!

@Wyatt - Which shadows selections do you mean? I use the paintbrush to just paint in shadows under the plants edges.
Or I also did do a selection around the shadow for the large tree on the left. On that one, I tried a few things quickly and din't like them. So I just loosely outlined it with the lasso tool, then cut it out onto its own layer. Then I desaturated it to black, then I blurred it so the edges lost their hardness from the quick cutout job. Then played with the multiply and opacity for the layer until I was happy. That shadow worked better than I thought it would. When I started cutting it out I was concerned about how I would get it to look good. But it worked out.

I thought you had used a selection for the plants on the left around 4:10, but after watching again I see the brush palette open and that the selection was for the sidewalk. Thanks for posting this, and congrats on getting the job. It is always nice to think that the photosim might actually take precedence over engineering knowledge when it comes to winning work like this. 😄

                                  Hi, Chris:
Congratulations on getting the commission. I am surprised that this presentation did not confuse the client. There is a lot of technical visual information flying about there 😄 It certainly showcases your huge talent, of which I have been in admiration since my first days of joining this forum.
Maybe you and I should jam sometime, although I only have a conceptual idea how two guitar players might collaborate while separated by about two time zones, a bunch of mountains, some desert and, perhaps, divergent styles, not to mention, plenty else to occupy our time. 💚

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

To be clear, the video was never shown to the client - just the final images that are in the pdf file. WEe just show how to go from an old street, to get up to accessibility standards of sidewalks, and then how to also make it pretty when they get the funding - images 1 2 and 3 in the pdf.

The video was just for fun to show co-workers and friends what I do all day. I get to do 10 to 15 of these a year. I enjoy them all.
