Make sure you have the latest V-Ray installed, this was an old bug that was fixed when VR could not find a texture.

RE: Sketchup Vray rendering problem
It's too bad we cant see the LC pass when using the 64 bit trick.

RE: Light Editor Window Goes Off Screen
What version? Seems like something that might have been picked up in SP2.

RE: Sketchup > 3ds Max > Vray workflow
Why not just use V-Ray in SketchUp and save that hassle?

RE: Vray 2.0 service pack is here!!
I've been using these features for years and never had a problem. What version are you on? 2.0? Anything prior to SP1 on 2.0 did not create the mat ids automatically. You have to go into the material and assign a color.

RE: High resolution and skybox
SP2 is .24942 and should be available to download on the chaos site of you are a legal customer.
As for the Alpha issue - I just tested and can confirm that it is fixed in SP2. Saving to PNG with no alpha channel selected will produce an image that doesn't remove the BG.
As for the saved LC and IR map thing, I have tried this with no avail. Maybe Andy can share a tutorial? Saving IR Maps seems to be bugged still.
As for the large sized EXR - I would save to VRIMG and not EXR. My experience is that PS will crash on very hi res 32 bit images that contain multiple layers (this is only applicable if you are rendering various channels.... i think).
As for the not having Photoshop. You can render out to VRIMG and than use the utility to save out your channel(s) to PNG. Use whatever you want to edit, Gimp, MS Paint, a stick and 2 stones, etc.

RE: Desperately Need help with vray (see attachment)
I second that. Currently you cannot use emissive materials as lighting (like some other engines), just lighting effect, like a TV screen. You must light your scene with omni, spot, IES, dome. rect lights. An interior like this would need a combination of these.

The other thing is to use a dusk HDRI in a dome light to get the nice bluish lighting like you see in the picture.

Yes, this is a must. Get access to free ones here...

RE: Night Lighting
Get some IES files and use those for uplighting. Phillips, Lithonia, and ERCO have full sets of IES files on the web. Watch this video, which is for VR Max, but the principles are the same.
I typically use sphere lights or rectangular lights inside to toss a bunch a light around the interior, so you get that glow inside.
Make sure you have 3d plants (probably proxies) in order to get all of that light hitting the leaves to achieve that same feel.

RE: Realistic rendering
This is the interview with Alex Roman if anyone is interested.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYW_SgiWEooAlso, take note that this video came out years ago, when computers were slower, V-Ray was older, and this quality was inconceivable up to the point he released this work. His techniques are now considered cliche in the viz industry just because so many people have copied them over and over.

RE: Realistic rendering
Nice tutorials (with no voice, just awful music), but you can learn a lot just watching.

This video took 2 whole years working every day to create. Alex is a master modeler, texture maker, photographer, cinematographer, composer, and artist. All these things are need to reproduce this and most of us never will, even after decades of working at this stuff.
Two years!! how much did he get paid for that? full time, either he is rich and this is a hobby or this is a very expensive job with a ton of time allocated.
He took 2 years off from work to produce this on his own. This is the story he tells in an interview on the web.

Watch this and be blown away -

Can you paint like Vermeer?

RE: Glass reflection
1- Thats not a 360 sky - Google 360 sky image
or
2- Use any of the free HDRI skies on the web
http://www.cgarchitect.com/news/viewframe/free-360-sky-panoramas-from-viz-people- if you use a JPEG, you have to switch the color space of the map to sRGB
Play with the intensity values. It might need to be .1, 1.0, or as high as 30 - depends on the file.

RE: Maxwell Studio question...
1 - I you will have more luck asking questions on the Maxwell forums
2- I think the image is based on your render output settings. If its set to a hi res and the preview is still small, I think there might be a keyboard command to zoom in, check the PDF manual.

RE: Glass material transparant and reflective
There is a good discussion on vray glass material setup here.

RE: Glass reflection
If you upgrade to 2.0 you will have domelight and a bunch of bug fixes.

RE: Visualizer for SketchUp
Definitely a cool toy. Reminds me of Maxwell Fire without lights or materials.
