    • Joint Stength question

Is there a way to make joints stronger? I ran across this http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=30053&p=263551&hilit=joint+strength#p263542
From a while back does it really help to double up joints?
I have one project that, when ran, it flexes in the middle, at the articulation joint (servo). I suppose I could use two joints one on top and one on the bottom, but I am not sure it will help that much.

    • Thruster UI code

Does anyone have a basic UI control text for control of a thruster. I looked at one example, but I couldn't what the variables meant.
Here is the text, from a simple thruster. -(0.5-slider("thrust"))*4000 what do the different parts mean?

    • RE: No or little traction

This is totally uncontrollable, starts out bouncing like a horse.
Here is the way it is put together.
I used the standard floor, and extended it.
Each of the four motors are grouped to their respective wheel.
The servo is set at -60~60, acceleration of 40, damping of 10, grouped to one half, connected to the other half.
There is a hinge grouped to the other half (the same half the servo in connected to)then connected to the other half, where the servo is grouped.
What the heck is wrong that makes it act this way?
I still do not know how to embed videos, can anyone help me out?
      meanwhile click the link.

None that I have found. I am working on a video. I will upload it soon.

    • RE: SketchyPhysics 3.2 Need bug reports!

Models slipping and sliding on "floor".
I just made a simple 4wheel drive model with a servo for steering, steering works. model moves, model doesn't respond to steering, "floor" is just too slick (or at least that is the way I am describing it)
Also there is a "hopping model" issue.
      any solutions?
I also just noticed this thread was started nearly a year ago, several reports, nothing from the creator of this plugin within the past few months. Is there anyone reading this?

    • No or little traction

I have been trying to do a model that will climb over bumps, I lose traction even on the slightest grade. Also invisible bumps on floor, trips up the model, ok everywhere else on floor, problem still persists even with new floor component.
Not sure if these are bugs or just operator error.
      Any body out there?

    • SP quickly becoming a PITA

I just got done doing a SP enhanced model based on another model.
My model fell apart, while the other model works perfectly.
The two models are identical as far as joints and groups are concerned, and the way things are connected, only the design is different.
There is no real support for the plugin, there is no current version manual that I can find.
If something works (I have a couple that do)and you add something or change a group, it quits working, at least in my experience.
I am about to dump the whole thing. But before I do I will upload my model and see if anyone can tell me what is wrong.

    • RE: New to SP, have a question

      Thanks Dan(?)
I figured most of this out on my own. I did also figure out the motor orientation thing, I had motors going opposite way. I watched a few youtubes on SP, some, a few times to make sure I was doing it right.

Now I need to figure out the keyboard control thing, I don't have a joystick...yet, so I need to make lefty, leftx, righty, and the rightx work, for steering and speed, since in the case of a skidsteer machine these things are directly related to each other.
      Thanks again!

    • Joystick recommendation

I need some advice I want to use a joystick to control some SP models.
I can use a pc style joystick provided it is USB.
Does anyone here recommend a particular brand/model?
Cost IS an issue cheaper=better for me, something I can find at Walmart would work.
      Thanks

    • RE: Groups, Components and Joints

I realize that SP is not easy to use, but if you are persistent, you can make it work using whatever resources are available. As I learn stuff for basic operation of the plugin, I will post some videos also.

    • RE: Sketchyphysics don't like imbricated tubes

hadrien_dugas, I figured it out, change the state of the outer tube to no collision, it will work like you want.
I drew two concentric tubes and grouped then individually. I then connected a motor to the outer tube. When I ran the simulation I had the same problem, as you, the outer tube rotated but moved up until the bottom inside surface came in contact with the inner tube, outer surface. So thinking like a logical person, I tried to make a "bearing" on the end opposite the motor, then grouped the bearing with the outer tube, with the inner tube running through it. I then started thinking about what was happening. I tried static state for the outer tube, well of course it didn't move at all. I changed the SP properties shape to sphere, no change.
I found the no collision state and changed the state of the outer tube to no collision voila' it worked. Video to follow (as soon a get time)

DanYHKim, I am glad someone did a new video recently. It seems that there aren't many using SP right now. Thanks for your post!.

    • RE: New to SP, have a question

Ok I got a car to move along the floor, took some time but I did it!
Now moving on to the next question.
Is there a way to link joints together, for example make a skid steer vehicle, the right motors are linked to each other, and the left motors are linked together, but the two systems are independent, from each other?

    • New to SP, have a question

I made a wheel, put a motor on it, it spins, perfect.
Now I have the wheel on the SP floor, but the wheel just sits and spins, what do I need to do, in order to make the wheel move along the floor?
Yeah I know pretty basic stuff for some of you, but I installed SP less than 24 hours ago.

    • RE: Preview - Sketchup Floating Camera [Update 2011-03-19]]

After working with it again, I realized what happened I was over the model and as I was moving I was headed for the ground. Not sure how, I did a short video at a higher level, and other than I was not high enough to fly over my light poles and the camera bounced over them, it looked real good.
As I was flying I could not manage to make nice sweeping curves, but that may come with practice.

Already played with it, looks good, but I had a problem making smooth curves, when turning with it. That may come with more practice.
The plug worked as advertised, but don't forget to turn it off when you are done, things get really strange.

    • RE: [Plugin]FPS Nav

Not bad at all, since I am a mouser from way back, it will take some time.
A joystick would be great if SU supported such a thing.
Now a question, is there a way to vary the speed of movement, besides normal and fast?

    • Just thinking...

Instead of a mouse to walk, drive, or fly through a model, could one use a computer joystick?
That way you control speed, altitude and direction better, just a thought.
