Standard SU8 set plus some window glass, these and more worked in SU7

    • SU 8 materials issue

I downloaded SU8 last week today I used it some the sandbox works better than in SU7, at least on my machine, a good thing.
But the materials browser hangs up to a minute before it loads after clicking the icon, anyone else have this issue?
I am using vista home premium, on a fairly fast dual core machine.

    • RE: Valiarchitects - plugins

Chuck, nicely done, on the instant roof RB, I downloaded it and installed it in SU7, drew a quick model, then rendered it KT, and the roof doesn't leak (light that is). That is one problem I have had in the past, I usually can get it fixed but it cuts into my "play time".
Thanks again for a great plug!

    • Sandbox tools Q

I did a quick search and didn't find what I wanted. I did my first sandbox tools experiment. and for the most part it workmen albeit very slowly. Here is my question I did a berm or small hill at the front of the "property" but I would prefer smooth curves not 10 foot flat surfaces at angles. Any suggestions?

    • RE: Material on separate layer

What I ended up doing was adding a new face to a group, by retracing the lines of the group. I ended up pulling the new face out a tiny bit to keep the new layer from "flaring" or reacting with the original face, when orbiting/moving it works for now.

    • Material on separate layer

Is it possible to apply a material to a face on its own layer?
I have a situation where some of the materials I use, cause a slow down of my computer, when orbiting. Sometimes I decide to add or change an entity after I add materials to the model.

    • Walkthrough speed issue

This may be normal behavior, I don't know. When I walk through a building the speed is OK, but when I walk through a town, I am working on the speed and sensitivity, is almost unmanageable, any way to slow things down?
I tried the flythrough plugin but it didn't work at all, no speed dialog showed,

    • Sketchy Physics

This is probably a real stupid question but...
I downloaded and installed SketchyPhysics. I opened a new drawing in SU and applied a hinge to a door. I get a message that I need to install Sketchy Physics3rc1
so I did that both the windows installer and the zip file
I get a message that says Sketchy Physics3rc1 required again.
Now What? I am running Vista 64 if that matters

    • RE: Overview map

A simple section slice would be fine, you don't need any detail just simple 2D outlines. One might be able to activate a plan view that sits in a corner or it could be in a separate window. Or make where and how the map shows up user selectable. The data is already there in the drawing, but how to tap it?

    • RE: Overview map

Yepper If the technology worked back in the super Nintendo days, I don 't see why it couldn't work here with the technology we have these days.
Of course I am not a programmer, and don't even know where to start, not a clue.
With all the brains here on this forum I am sure somebody will accept the challenge.

    • Overview map

I was just doing a walk through of one of one of my models, once in a while I run into walls, simply because I did not know how close I was. Is there a plugin to trick to provide an overview map that sits as a inset window somewhere?
Something that would indicate XY position as well as first floor, second floor, or basement would work great!

    • RE: More standard camera positions

There is a duh moment for me, I hide and show stuff all the time when I am working on a model, never thought about hiding the model so I could see the center. At any rate I did one video show and it worked out OK. I wish I could find the best possible, set up for you tube. The link I posted for this thread was upload #3.
I will practice and get better. Thanks for your help so far.

    • RE: More standard camera positions

Well after some playin' around here is my first version.
Her are the problems I had, it is difficult to move the camera position tool, from a vertex to the center of the hexagon if you can't see the center.
The avi I created looked good, when I converted it to an flv for uploading the quality suffered. I think with some (a lot) of practice and patience I may get it right.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbJABSJ_AVM&feature=player_embedded

    • RE: Non-coplaner "face segments"

mitcorb I have a fair amount of experience, up until my old computer died I was running Intellicad, then less than a year (like 6 months) ago I discovered SketchUp, it was love at first "sight". It did everything I wanted, and I am sure there are still things I have not tried. Here is a link to my 3D warehouse page http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/search?viewer=14171324581335292174&scoring=m
      have a look around.

Or I can just smooth the whole thing, then paint it, for my purposes that will work, but I know it will bug me.I have been in contact withe he software vendor about this situation, however, no replies so far.

    • RE: More standard camera positions

Well I think is is because of the center on origin plugin, When Chris says center on origin he means it. It would be an easy matter to move it up a few feet;)It also appears to spin in a downward if I do not center it on the origin, however I moved it up 2 feet and in one rev it still looks good and "flat" I will post that video after work to night.

    • RE: More standard camera positions

Here is what I wanted to accomplish I started by using Chris Fullmer's center on origin plug, then I used a camera spin plug I found, Animation 2 I believe. I started the spin plugin, then started recording with Cam Studio. Since Cam Studio dialogs show up at the beginning and end of recording, I edited those out with a free video editor (at least free for now)called VideoPad from NCH .

    • RE: Non-coplaner "face segments"

I don't have Autocad, I don't have access to the Autocad file. These files are generated by the design program I have. I have a selection of parts that I put together to make the design for the consoles. The program saves those in a native format to that program. I can however export dxf/dwg in to SU from the original file. Whats interesting is I have an Autocad viewer and when I open the exported dwg/dxf file, it works, and the files appear to be fine and the faces look good. I have not however looked at them closely.

    • RE: More standard camera positions

That might work Dave I made a few trial runs, and in a few cases I didn't move the camera position tool on the face of the hex, and things went weird, I will get it eventually. Thanks for the tip! Ryan
