Hi guys, Im Sketchup user almost 14 years...mostly on Windows, now Version 2020 Pro + Vray 5 + D5 render...
But I have bought new Apple M1 chip Macbook Air 2020, the base config with 8GB RAM...honestly I Have to say thats great with Sketchup /no issues and almost fast as my win-workstation/ but my question was...what about reder....

VRAY 5 works well /I did maybe 10 test renders of my old scenes.../ nothing heavy, almost now issues /I had to work aournd with Fur-grass setup a bit/

      and I have tested
Twilight render....and it works...and works great / I was searching for something fast to produce renders on Macbook Air beacuse seems like Im leaving Vray after 10 years and switching to D5 render/

Hope these infos are helpful for someone

I was roaming around D5 renderer but I came across here that it uses new RTX Nvidia cards for rendering and since I will wait some more time to get a reasonable price on 3090.
      https://www.yuque.com/d5render/ra7gmc/zve62y
So, on new M1 silicon there are no RTX and Nvidia options at all, how will you utilize renderer?

Well D5 render is Nvidia based, RTX is not necesity but really good to have. I was working on RTX 2060 with 6GB and it was enough for my purpose /stills max 4K/ and the rendertimes was maximum 2minutes per image.... but when you are aiming for long 4K videos its better to go for RTX 3.... series, but the problem is that is really out of stock now...

Now is my setup MAcbook Air for daily work /web, emails, CAD drawings in Draftsight, modeling in Sketchup, quick preview renders in Vray or Twilight/ and when I need to work on archviz I turn on win workstation and run D5 render... but now its maybe once a week or so...

Thank you both guys. My problem is that thus setup is over my budged and probably over my needs. Seems like Im going for Ryzen 5 2600 and gtx 1060 maybe 1070. Hope It will work. Do you have some experience with Ryzen? Is there big difference between gtx and rtx line of nVidia ?

love the idea (as I can say), the renders are nice, like that they have some atmosphere and not attend to be hyper realistic, great to have some Maxwell colege

aha, thank you very much now I understand I'll try to make it better on the next set of images. But I don't know how to set the softtnes of shadows in Maxwell for SU I think it's somehow preset in the Physical Sky. Maybe I'll try nextime HDRi light...but nayway thanks again, i keeps me pushing forward and I'm glad that I gave Maxwell a chance cause I see that I can put it in my prodction pipeline

    • RE: First finished Maxwell renders

Thanks alot, I will work on it, because I have to make a version of this concept, so Ill try to make better wood material. Sorry for my english but I dont understand what does it mean "better second plans". And also I dont know how to set up softter shadows but I will have a look on it. The render time was around 1 hour I quess, but my home machine is just Macbookpro 2008, with C2D 2.5GHz and 4GB ram, so nothing really fast.

I've bought Maxwell for SU year ago and didn't use it at all (working with Vray for SU) but these days I'm bit sick, so I made some reaserch through avalible render engines and gave a Maxwell a chance. Please comments and critics welcome. (Sometimes are my eyes blind to my own mistakes)

    • Mac for sketchup

Hi to all, I need an advice. We are very small architecture studio and want to go from win to macos. I cant invest too much money to buy new HW, so my question is, what is the lowest reasonable configuration for Mac for n architect, 50% of time cad 2d drawing, 30% sketchup modeling and about 20% vray rendering, some post pro and so on. Now I have AMD athlon X4 at 2.8GHz with ati 5750 and for me the speed is quite enough.
      thanks in advance

It's a nice design for a bookstore that caters to the younger crowd. I used to love to browse in bookstores, but it's been years since I've even been in one. I still read a lot, but I get all my books from Amazon now, much cheaper and easier to find what you want. Is this a design for an actual bookstore that might be built, or just an exercise? The reason I ask is that most of the local bookstores here have been put out of business by online stores, and from what I've read it's pretty much the same everywhere. And it would seem that this would be especially true for the younger crowd, who tend to do everything online. Sign of the times I guess.
One question - what is the "bathtub" shaped thing under the light?

thanks for opinion. well this should be the protoype of a bookstore for a big distributor of books in my country. The idea is to make the youth read again and have "cool"shop where they can find the book, to have there computers connected to online bookstore, to have place where they can meet and comunicate but not to stay for long /to read a book in store isnt very economical for seller/ also in my country lot of people use to buy things via internet but they are still looking for the store to have the feeling of a book /or anything else/. therefore the concept of such a bookstore should be something like fastfood for books and not the cofetery. the bathtub thing is the cashdesk and info place when you need to pay or have some question.

Generaly very cool, cannot make out what material is on the floor. I think the coloured people do not work, they confuse the whole thing. They look like public art and make the colour scheme 'pop' to much which makes the interior dificult to read. I would suggest a more nuetral abstraction for them.

      Good luck 😄

to steved: thanks alot your your crits. the floor should be made out of vinyl flooring (honestly I'm not very satisfied how it looks on renders but wasnt able to work on that material more, maybenext time)
The "people" in combination with the colored lines on celing should work as a navigation system, each color represents genre of book, but I do agree that they look "too much" I will wait what client will say a nd maybe this will end up in trash
