      Hi Almarma πŸ˜„

You really need to learn how your Mac works- it really helps, and it's not difficult either. If you search for stuff using Spotlight, you will get shown the pathways to directories/ files at the bottom of the window, where you will find what you need to throw away. I would also recommend that you Google "EasyFind", which is a brilliant search utility for Mac, and use that too πŸ˜„

      I hope that helps πŸ˜„

    • RE: Adobe CS4 and Windows 7- does it work okay?

We (my colleague Peter and I), use CS4 as part of the set up to a local community based magazine. Like most companies in the UK, we are still using XP, but I use a Mac, and am always taking the Mick out of Peter, because his PC keeps crashing. But in a cloud of rage today, Peter decided he'd had enough, so I posted this to ask if anyone had had a similar experience of CS on XP compared to CS on W7.

    • Adobe CS4 and Windows 7- does it work okay?

Anyone here using Adobe CS4 with W7? We are having immense problems with CS4 in XP SP3, and can't work out why performance is so shite. All I can conclude is that somewhere along the line, some service update has ruined CS's performance, because it used to work fine. We are virus free, and the software is running on an Acer FH with a Core Duo processor (3 gig ram, 7200rpm drive, etc etc).

I've just suggested trying the same system with Windows 7 instead of XP, but the IT dept are nervous about shelling out for W7.

      Anyone? Any takers?

    • RE: Run Windows 7 on your Apple iPad!

      Another rumour that has now appeared, is that Apple may in fact be developing a more Mac-like tablet, that runs standard OSX;

      favicon

It would make sense really, because Windows 7 already has touch technology built in to it, and the last thing Apple will want is Microsoft stealing their crown yet again.

Chuck, don't worry, it was an early version of NaviCAD.

Any chance of getting both NaviCAD and LightUp to work with one another? Or is that too hard a possibility?

PS I'm typing all of this from an iPhone, which is driving me nuts, especially with copy paste, because the screen is so small. I'm trying to leave my computer at my desk, rather than bring it home with me, because it is such a drag to keep having to lug the damn thing around all the time! Typing this on an iPad, is going to be very liberating. I'll probably even get another Nokia or Palm instead of this iPhone too!

PPS, HP are rubbish- I know, because I've got one!!! πŸ˜†

It's not harsh at all. You are being paranoid. I'm sorry but you also don't have the faintest idea how publishing rights work. True Apple have made a profit, but then come the tax men- the publishers (and right now, the publishers love Apple!). Please, trust me on this. Two of my LP's (yes, I used to make music) are up for sale on iTunes. Both are published by Universal music, because I was ignorant enough, at the time to sign my rights away as a musician. I was in my twenties then. My wife is also an ex-musician, and she was far wiser becaue she used to collect royalties through the MCPS (and as a result, her band turned out a little richer and wiser than me!). Apple have made a profit, but it won't be Apple who will keep all of this money. All money collected will go to the publishers, and inturn will be collected by the record companies. Only then will artists see any money, that's if the record companies or publishers are efficient enough at coughing it up.

Now put THAT in your pipe.... ! πŸ˜‰

When you import, in the File dialog window there is an Option button. There you can pick the unit which the DXF or DWG is in. (SU doesn't read the unit from the file - you have to tell it what it is.) Then your DXF will be imported exactly as 1:1.

yes, there is also that, I also try to import at 1:1, but it never bloody works! Grrr! πŸ˜†

Save As" im not finding πŸ˜‰

I think I've just worked it out. You don't save anything. SU does this automatically after you save the model then quit SU.

Reopening brings up the imported texture into the texture panel, and the skm file is added to the directory.
I guess to add multiple files, you must create a file first in the application support directory, and then just import multiple files all at once. I haven't got that far yet.

      does that make sense?

      Hi Joarek!

      You're not blind. πŸ˜„

You can find your materials library in the Application support folder within you main library, under Google SketchUp.

It's fairly easy to find. πŸ˜„

    • RE: DXF import size

Hi Devo. Welcome to SCF. πŸ˜„

I use DXF files from QCad and then import them into SU. How these files size up after importing largely depends on the scale that they were set at in the software you used to create them. The file also depends of the size of paper you created to. AutoCAD usually defaults to a stupidly big size at first, unless you either resize before drawing, or make a template, and get ACAD to load every time from that template.

But fear not, because there is a really cool resizing trick up SU's sleeve, when you use the tape measure tool. First import your dxf, then run your pencil tool around the lines you wish to extrude, to create some faces. Using the tape measure, measure across between two points, which you already know the distance of, but just before you measure, press the alt button down (this may be the ctrl key- I can't remember, because I'm on an Apple). You'll see a little positive symbol appear next to the tool. Make the measurement, then without doing anything else, type your measure ment- how it should be into the VCB box, at the bottom right of the screen (SU should automatically take you there- so no having to move the mouse etc). Hit return or enter, and your dxf will be resized to the proper size, you originally intended. Does that make sense?

      have fun!

Apple is happy to create another i tunes monster trying to suck money out of your pockets. This thing will become like the printer phenomenon. They can give the printers away for nothing, the make all the money from selling you ink cartridges. Its been estimated that printing ink cost about US$8000.00 per gallon.

      🀣

What a load of paranoid nonsense!! πŸ˜† Do you really think that Apple are making such a profit from ventures such as iTunes? Apple hardly break even! Do you really think that multinational labels and publishing corporations such as Warner and Universal are going to cut Apple some slack when it comes to making a profit? Give me a break! Apple make money on their hardware. iTunes just simplifies the process of buying music and films, and so making it easier, makes the hardware more attractive.

A printer is a different thing altogether. I've got an old laser printer (black and white), which works off ethernet. It's 10++ years old, but still works fine. Carts are a pig to get though, and I usually have to buy these off eBay, if I can find them. If you had to upgrade the chip inside the printer every two or three years, then the situation would be the other way round, as ink would only cost pennies. The chip inside this printer is made by AMD and is only 8bit! But as long as it prints Postscript at 1 A4 per hour, who cares?

      BUT,

I totally agree with you on the question of ergonomics, but imho, computers in general fail big time in the ergonomics dept, even your Acer. This Macbook sucks on ergonomics, as it's screen is attached so close to the keyboard. I get neck ache and dizziness from using it 'on my lap' for long periods of time. Mac or PC- same difference! πŸ˜„

A device without flash today is useless for casual browsing.

I browse using a flash-blocker - I'm not sure which is more annoying

For a start, that's nonsense (ie useless). I browse all the time (except it seriously f**ks with my eyes on such a small screen), on the iPhone. My wife's iPod, is all she uses for the internet (because the kids are always on her PC! Which madly, is mostly crashing or freezing because of flash content, or complains, because certain things can't be replayed because the wrong plugin is installed, despite that it is).

I suppose as well it also boils down to what kind of site you look at as well. I tend to look at more text based sites than sites which contain a lot of flash. πŸ’
