    • RE: What graphics card?

Hi Guys, Ok i am now running 16 gig of ram and have 2GB of nvidia dedicated graphics. Can rotate a 33 MB 2.5 Million face, streetscape with a style applied in real time. HOWEVER when i turn on the shadows in sketchup it stutters as bad as before (Not responding) πŸ˜•
What is the largest file size i can post here? I am thinking of attaching the model so someone can tell me if they have any issues with it. I am at a loose end here........ where could the weak link be?

      Open to all suggerstions here.

      Thanks

    • RE: What graphics card?

Thanks guys I am on my way to understanding.
Tom everything you said was true including the fitted graphics card. However i opened up my tower to have a look. I found an ASUS EAH5450 graphics card (but embarrassingly was plugged into my Intel HD 4000 graphics card?!??!!!!!!!?)

By the way I have found out how to easily find out which graphics card you are using type "dxdiag"into your start search.

I have been on the rayflectron forum and it seems that render ingine is, as graphics card dependant as SU (not very much at all aparently) so I do not seem to need to upgrade my graphics card (unless someone thinks i should) So i can spend the money on ram. My motherboard can take 32 gig so 32 gig it is! might not need it but somehow the idea of having 32 gig of ram makes me feel warm all over... β˜€

      Thanks again guys

    • RE: BIM - advice required for complete Newbie

Hi, sketchup is primarily a visualisation program with a very easy, almost vertical learning curve. Basicaly, Bim starts as a visualisation tool but vertically intergrates project management cost estimation etc.

    • RE: Have you ever done a poll on render software?

Hi Grizzler. I understand your frustrations, as i have been there. But have come to understand that producing good quality renderings is an art. Expecting great results with the plug and play "default" settings of any render engine is unlikely to produce great results.
It is like buying the best oil paints and expecting a great painting without developing, great painting skills by investing time in education, trial and error, technique and having innate aesthetic sensitivity.

"there is a program that allows anyone to make a fortune by writing award winning movie scripts and best selling books" .................... it is called 'Microsoft Word'

I expect to produce good quality renderings in about 6 months if I stick at it.

      Good luck Grizzler πŸ˜„

    • What graphics card?

Hi all, have had a few issues of late doing renders. I would like some opinions of my compter specs and what graphics card I should upgrade to. the model I had issues with is 33mb with 1.8 million polys. When I turn on the shadows SU has a think for a mater of minutes (not responding) then evenually comes good (most of the time) Where is my weakest link.

      Widnows 7
      Quadcore I5-3570K CPU @ 3.4GH
      8 gig of ram
      unknown graphics card

Will upgrade ram a further 4 gig

What graphics card is a good bet to upgrade to?

If somone could explain what does what that would be a bonus!

      Thanks guys πŸ˜„

    • RUNNING OUT OF FREE SPACE (REYLECTRON)

Hi all. Am trying to render a streetscape 33mb 1,6 million faces in Reyflectron. I have a few years experience with SU modelling but not much experience with rendering. when the Reyflecton is processing the model it warns me "running out of free space" so i am not able to render. I am on a deadline for 14 hours time. I have a descent mother board and 8 gig of ram. Does anyone have any suggestions (my fall back will be just a "styles" 2d export..yuck!)I have gone as far as hiding a lot of items that are not seen in a particular view the reduce load but still will not render. Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can cheat this to work?
Is Kerkythea less hungry ( Probably a really dumb question, i know)

I have attached a render to test the model but the model was in an early stage and the bare street is now quite full of.....well......stuff, so you can get an idea of what type of job it is.

Even a "bad luck thats how it is" would help as i would stop trying and go to plan 'B' 😞

Thanks guys, would appreciate any help at all πŸ‘

    • RE: Create "eye" ( Solid circle on sphere)

Thanks Pilou, yes I thought the Drape must work as I use it all the times on terrain. I used a sphere from warehouse and exploded it did not work. Created my own sphere drape worked as I thought it would without hesitation. One question though has 'project texture' been removed from the options? have used it before on prev' versions with no problems.
Maybe just having a bad day

      Thanks for the assist πŸ˜„

    • 3d warehouse cannot download

Hi all, have been trying for a few hours to download some components from 3d warehouse. All is fine get on the site, search for the component, fine but as soon as I try to dowload the component it says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" everything else is working fine. Could somene take a look to see if they have the same issue? would realy apreciate it. Just trying to diagnose what is going on. πŸ˜‰

    • RE: OMG Autocad blows

Having been an Autocad user for 5 years switched to Archicad, autocad felt like a toy after that. Still takes a learning curve but much better in all ways. Yep sketchup is v cool but has limitations especially in 2d. Autode$k does suck. You can buy a better product BRICSCAD for less than a tenth of the cost and it is totally the same. Just shows how Autodesk is ripping us off for an inferior product.

    • RE: Scale function

Hi all, just in case the point was lost, the easiest way to locate a point at which to scale the circle is: hover the cursor over and around the circumference of the circle, (with the move function engaged) the points at which the blue circle "clicks off" (turns black) is one of the points at which you can scale the circle.
