overall these are all very nice renderings...some speak more to me than others, but you definately have an artistic touch....good job

    • RE: Vray for 3D Max question

I would definately use IR map for primary lighting and then Light cache for secondary. Use reinhard for your color mapping and adjust the burn value lower if you have overexposed areas of your rendering. For image sampling, I would start with adaptive QMC and if that is not getting you the amount of detail you desire, then switch to the"fixed" type and see how that works (this will probably increase rendering times a bit though). For your IR map, I would use a min of -3 and max rate of 0 with subdivides at 50 and samples 20. Those are for final quality settings and can be adjusted for tests. I just gave you those numbers to avoid having to explain the whole min and max concept, because it is kind of abstract and is better explained in the manual. Light cache settings are pretty much just controlled by the subdivs. Start with a value around 500 for tests and then got 1000-3500 for final and increas more if you still have a lot of noise. Make sure you have enough lights in the scene as well, so put lights inside of windows in addition to the sunlight. Hope this helps. Best of luck

wat sort of settings are u starting out with? are u using ir map for primary bounces and lighte cache for secondary ? And is your scene have a lot of small details or is it more "modern" with a lot of flat surfaces?

    • RE: Vray for SU help, again!!!

yeah that error message looks new to me and by the looks of your model, i dont think that is the problem. I think it may be something to do with your system or how SU is installed. Thats just a guess though.

I think I like this one the best. It makes the image a little more subtle and not so overwhelming like a few of the previous ones

    • RE: Twilight again and again !!!

I like the images but a few critiqes that may help. THe lighting level is too low. Bump that up a bit. The 3d people look a bit awkward...why do 3 out of the 4 seem to be stretching backwards in the same position. Just looks a bit off. And are the keyboard and mouse photoshoped in? They just dont look right in the scene. Hope I dont sound too critical, because I think you have a really good start here

Thanks for the comments guys. Macker...the DOF definately needs some work. I am trying to accomplish the effect in photoshop, because the rendering times to do it with a vray physical camera are annoyingly long for me right now, but your graphics are something I am going to save because they do help you understand things a bit better. Thanks agian man

Nomer: Thanks again...I am anxious to see you get back into this sort of workflow

Earthmover: Those are some awesome tips and most of them are new to me. Thank you a lot...they will really help me and they are the types of things that anyone trying to use this workflow can benefit from

    • RE: V-ray questions

just got a chance to read through this thread...Solo, have you solved your recent problem? I am not sure if i am understanding this completely but it sounds like you took a model to a new computer correct? Vray is very similar to the way autocad handles xreferences (if that sounds familiar?) and you need to have the root files in the original location that they were when you first applied them. I hope that helps?

    • RE: Vray for SU

I think adding more light to your scene and maybe turning down the burn value in your color mapping settings may help...try a value of .5 and see what you come up with.

    • Corporate: An Interior Attempt at SU+Vray for 3dMax Workflow

Here are some views from a recent project...I recently posted a night, exterior shot to test out an SU to 3ds max + Vray workflow, and for this one I wanted to see how this sort of workflow would work for some interior renderings. As I expected, it was certainly nice to be able to add interior vegetation and other high poly models to my scenes and not have it bring my workflow to a hault. And several of the other benefits that I mentioned in my exterior renderings thread like material settings and instancing of lights made working in max beneficial and quicker. I do have to admit that navigating interiors in max was a bit painful and annoying though. It was the most annoying when navigating in 3D perspective. The controls seem to be a little too touchy and selecting objects was a pain at times and there were times that you are directly selecting an object and max will just go and select something else...I guess that is why they recommend working in various viewports (plan, elevation, 3d, and etc...). I do however like the options in max to select by object type (ie...objects, lights, cameras, and etc..) They have a little pull down bar that you can select a type and that ensures that you are only selecting those types of objects. (Very useful when working with lighting and cameras). I also like how you can instantly set your camera to have straight verticals (aka 2pt perspective) with one click. I dont know how other rendering engines handle it but vray for SU does not render2pt perspectives without messing with their physical camera and that can be miserable for some users. All in all, it was a slower process for me, but probably due to my inexeperience in max. I am going to continue trying to get better at this workflow because I think it is essential for large scenes and animation, but I still do not see myself moving away from doing most all of my modeling in SU. I hope you all like these and critiques and questions are always welcome and appreciated.

    • RE: Vray Render result problem help needed

yeah it is hard to help without knowing your settings...but i think if you put a rectangular light right inside of your window to increas the amount of apparent light coming from the outside will help get rid of some of the splotchiness. Maybe increase the sub-division of your light cache if that is what you are using for secondary bounces in your rendering setup.
