Alright, I just saw the images posted by Biebel of his paperclips and saw that he did them in fryrender. So I went to their sight to check it out and was pretty impressed. I have yet to download the demo, but it looks like the program can be pretty involved but also create great stuff. I dont know if fryrender is fairly new or not but that was the first time I really looked into it. Now here is the question for anyone who feels they know enough about the two programs (especiall ones like beibel who seem to have really mastered such programs )...in your opinions, which one do you think is better? I know it is not a clear cut answer and i know that some engines support things that others dont and there is also the whole ease of use and learning curve to consider, but Im looking for the opinions of people who actually have had experiences with or knowledge of both. There is only so much you can get from their homepages cause all rendering homepages only promote the positives and say how much faster and easier their product is. I just want to distinguish between what is worth my time to learn, but more importantly, my money to spend so any insight would be greatly appreciated. I am comfortable with v-ray but fryrender is really interesting me so I will try to give as much input as I can as well.

RE: Hospital Exterior
Thanks guys. If there are any other questions from anyone, feel free to ask and Ill do my best to answer them.

RE: Hospital Exterior
Yeah it was pretty time consuming but not as bad as I originally thought when looking at the starting image. All in all it took about 2-3 hours in photoshop. I just needed to really sit down for an hour or so and just be willing to get into it in order to get those wires even close to what they need to be. But thanks again to all the feedback.

RE: Hospital Exterior
Thanks guys. Yeah the refelctions where added in Photoshop and the cut out job as well. Im not gonna lie, there was a significant amount of post processing, as you can probably tell from the images, but it seemed to work out considering that im still not the greatest at photoshop.
Solo: I can post a tut as soon as i get some time. Just let me know what part you want to know about...the model, rendering, post processing etc...? But if you have any general questions, feel free to ask.

RE: Paper clips
Great stuff. Quick question though...What else is going on in the scene to make it look that realistic. The chrome and all that are reflecting something, but what? Do you anything surrounding those clips and how many lights are u using? Just wanting to know, cause its pretty amazing how you can take something as simple as that and make it so visually interesting and convincing.

RE: Hospital Exterior
Thanks for the feedback guys. Here is an update; I editied it a little more in photoshop. I really needed some help with the windows and "Jigsaw", over on the v-ray forum, gave me some suggestions and i took them and what I read here to edit it. I hope it looks more convincing.
Solo: Heres the raw render, the update, and the photo to match the scene with. Hope it helps. Let me know if you want to see anything else.
ehaflett: This may not be what you want to hear but I actually had to individually lasso the power lines and erase parts that werent needed. Then I combinedd them all into one layer and pulled them to the front. It seemed to work for me but it was a little time consuming. It is doable but Im sure there is an easier way. Im still amateur when it comes to photoshop. If you have any other questions though, feel free to ask.

Hospital Exterior
I did this rendering in vray and had a little trouble at first. I couldnt get the windows to work quite right because I had no images of the surroundings to use billboards for the reflections and I didnt have time to model surroundings, but when I put it all together in Photoshop I was glad I didnt do that. Just looking at the way the sun is shining on the buildings, there really is not too much reflection in any of the buildings so I feel like it may have worked out ok. Let me know what you think please cause I could use any critiques or feedback, especially when it comes to exterior scenes.
Thank you in advance-steelers05

RE: Office and shopping center in SaiGon
Great work. The building is very impressive, but what strikes me most is the way you were able to sucessfully represent the environment around it. Great job...and was it v-ray?

RE: Hand rendering Style
Yeah i guess "more impressive" was not the right way to put it but i think you know where i am coming from. Never the less, I think that it all works hand in hand. U learn ways to improve your skills by doing various types and styles of illustration. To me, an artist is an artist no matter what media they use. I dont know many people that would be able to do the modeling and rendering that you see on here if they did not have an interest & skillset in other areas of design and illustration. I just think it is important, especially as a student still, to make sure that people dont lose skills due to the computer; being able to do things by hand is very important and it helps you understand how things work a little more.

RE: Hand rendering Style
Hope im not unwantedly chiming in here. But, yeah it would be really cool if there were programs that can really make renderings look like they were done by hand (and im sure there are), but there is something about knowing that they are actually done by hand that makes them more impressive. In my opinion, I love rendering and im sure many know that but it seems to me that hand renderings kinda help you feel the space a little bit more in a way. There is emotion in the image and sometimes you get an even better feel for the design and the designers concept by the way the displayed it. It can be a nice break from photo-real renderings. But there are a lot of people that mix media like nomer, that have great success and kinda pull of the same thing. I dont know, i may be totally off base but thats just my impression. Heres a few from my previous works and sometimes I feel more proud of these than any of my computer renderings.

RE: Hotel Ballroom
Thanks for the crits guys. Remus, the lens flares are agreeably too distracting, they were just to play around with lighting affects in PS. I would definately not put them in a final rendering.
And damn Julius, I didnt think anyone was going to catch that about the untensils. They definately give off a blueish reflection. I think it has something to do with the refraction layer for my glasses. But good catch. Im gonna try to fix that.

RE: Hotel Ballroom
Here is an updated view and one new view. I did these primarily to mess around with some lighting effects in post processing and I know they are extremely exaggerated and inacurrate, but sometimes that helps sell a design and they can look really kool. Let me know what you think.

RE: Form and function furniture
Solo, awesome stuff. This may sound dumb or it may not, but have you ever tried marketing some of these ideas. I think there is a need in the market for original and innovative designs, and your stuff is certainly that, IMO. I really like the rocker chais. Now were these rendered in v-ray or are the a glimpse of something to come? (hint hint)

Bollean Ruby?
Ive been looking and im not even sure if it exists, but does anyone know if there is a ruby script that works similar to the bollean tool for other modeling programs like 3d max? Thank you in advance for any help.

RE: Hotel Ballroom
Yeah v-ray supports displacement. I agree though I probably should have added a little bit of displacement but my computer acts funny and really slows down when rendering something with displacement. I also could have added at least a little bit of bump to help it out. It does look a little too much like lino. But thanks for the feedback guys. Hope to get more.

Hotel Ballroom
These are from a current project I was working on. First though, I have to thank solo for the chair model. I have yet to get sub + smooth, and i probably wouldnt have the ability and patience to make something that looks that good, but I wanted to give credit where credit is due. He just took my request that I posted on the podium form and went and made it. Very classy, thanks man. But I rendered these using v-ray. Hope you like them. Comments and feedback are greatly appreciated. And let me know if anyone has any questions.

Awesome. Thanks guys. The flip along azix workded for me but the ruby helps too.

Mirror Ruby?
Does anyone know if there is a ruby that will mirror things (similar to mirror command in acad)? If so, could someone direct me to it? Thank you guys.

RE: Towers Lobby
Ahh thank you. That was my goal with about half of those shots. I like to do that a lot with rendering...give a view that allows you to see the room and what is going in on in a realstic viewpoint and give other views that make you not only see the room differently but FEEL the room and design and what it is about. Thats how I like to design too.
