Did you use version 2.0.2 of the plugin?

Sorry I forgot to include that, Yes I did.
I used DBUR_ArcsCircles_v2.0.2.rbz, in fact I redownloaded it just to make sure and i still does it.

The other tools seem to work okay, with the exception of maybe the Circle:Diameter.

To me the tool Circle:Diameter works like the native circle tool. But the handle you drag to set the size, doesn't work right.,

Example: if I try to draw a 4" diameter circle, I select the center and then have to drag the handle 4" from the center to make the circle. which seems a odd way to do it.

When using the "Arc, center, 1 point, length" the length comes up short.

When entering 6.75" in the VCB, the arc produced is only 6" long.

I tried with my normal plugins and also with all plugs removed.

Great idea, but as I stated in my original post I already tried it and it has issues.

Thank you spreadcore...that tutorial was perfect. I didn't know that you had to have the stairs the same height, and that the straight line needed to be the same length as the rise. These were then things I was missing.

      Thanks again....really helped!

Your welcome, glad it worked for you.

      FYI:
The straight line needs to be the same length as the "Run" of the stairs.

The "Rise" is the height of the stairs.

Yes that is exactly what I am hoping to achieve. When I have used Shape Bender it lines the stairs up wrong. Would you mind sharing your steps, etc...

      Thanks...

I assume your referring to me.

Okay I made a tutorial, I hope I did it right first time making one.

FYI: I used TIGs ArcBy plugin to make the arc.

      • Type in length of the arc

Thanks Cotty, Dave R and S Shepherd for the suggestions!

@Cotty, @Dave R I'll give that plugin (just downloaded it) and suggestion a try.

@S Shepherd Wow that's what I original was trying, but I couldn't figure out how to keep the rotate tool perpendicular to the second axis rotate that third arc and keep it against the sphere.

I'll try that also and see which I like the best.

    • How do you draw lines on a sphere

My question is on how to draw some lines on a sphere.

This example shows what I want to do.

      http://s5.postimg.org/gr6u36h1j/wanted.jpg

      1. First I would like to draw the 6 3/4" line.
      2. Then I want to add the 3 3/8" line at a 60* angle to the first line.
      3. Then the next line at a 30* angle to that line.

(For those who bowl, I'm trying to draw a Dual Angle layout on the sphere(Bowlingball) )

I have been trying the Tools On Surface 1.8a(w/LibFredo6 - v5.0c - 06 Jul 13),(the line tool) which looks like it would do what I want.

But I'm either not using it correctly (I have the quickcard guide) which I'm assuming I'm not or I'm wondering if its not quite compatible with SU8. (Can't be another plug I removed all my other plugins)

When I draw the first line it's always off just a little (left or right of where I want it and a 1/16" short)

If I just draw a random line and try to make the second line. I never know what's going to happen. One time it will have a green ball on each end and won't let me do anything, next time it will give the second line but it doesn't seem to reference the other line right for the angle reading.

Entering the length and angle manually give odd results too.

I thought the instructions coupled with the illustration were very clear. Hmmm....

It seems pretty straight forward to me to drag the selection box only around what you want to select. I never thought to tell someone that. I guess I'll be adding that to my training program.

"drag the selection box only around what you want to select."

Well technically that is what I did the first time.

I was looking at the entire back side of the sphere and that's what I wanted to select. So I drew the selection box around that.

I didn't realize till later that the example image was looking at the "side" of the sphere.

Oh and this was the model I was doing.

Though massimo the "Enable hidden geometry......." tip had a problem. It would select the entire sphere, not just the half.

Well enabling hidden geometry is really needed to select the half sphere. How did you do the selection?

I followed your directions (I Enabled the hidden geometry)

Enable hidden geometry (view-->hidden geometry) then switch to parallel view (camera-->parallel projection) and choose a suitable view. Then pick the select tool-->click and drag from right to left the selection window.

I've found the problem, you left off that I should only select half the sphere.

      http://s5.postimg.org/g6nfqhcuf/select_half.jpg

I drew the selection around the whole sphere, thinking it would only select what was facing me, not realizing it would select what was in the back also.

    • RE: Hello and sphere texture mapping question

Thanks Krisidious and massimo for the replies.

Selecting the back of the sphere only and applying the texture to it was the answer.

Though massimo the "Enable hidden geometry......." tip had a problem. It would select the entire sphere, not just the half.

I found that applying a cross section also to the sphere, allowed me to select only the back half.

      Thanks for the help everyone.

    • Hello and sphere texture mapping question

Hello my question is about mapping a texture to a sphere.

Here I used the method where you project the texture on to the curved surface.

      http://s21.postimg.org/6evy9oufn/bowling_ball_3_viewsl.jpg

      click for larger image.
      http://s21.postimg.org/wzyh58wt3/bowling_ball_3_viewsl.jpg

This worked real well, except when you rotate the sphere. The logo is on the back also and reversed.

I would like to remove the logo on the back or at the least make it so it's not reversed.

I've tried painting the texture to the sphere and then using the "UVTool.rb". While this removed the logo in back, it stretched the front logo out of shape.

I tried selecting only the geometry the logo was on and applying a new texture. But you can see the edges where you did it.

My thought was to select the back of the sphere only and applying a seamless texture (without logo) to it. But I'm don't know if there's a easy way to select exactly half the sphere?

So is there a better procedure to try to do this?
