Thanks Mike, and a nice find. This was what I was looking for. I guess a good point is to show the parametric design possibilities. At least one good model should be enough for this. I could quickly show the parameter window and some variations of the model thought some basic animation. I think the way they show it in that video is too dull and an instant preview of the changes could make it easier to grasp the concept of parametric design for the average user.

Most impressive dynamic components
Hello,
About two years ago when most of the Sketchup community had little to no understaning of what are dynamic components and what can they do, I made a short video of some examples, featuring the different types of use for them. The video served well for whenever I tried to quickly explain to someone what are DC's, and I hope it helped others too. But a lot of time has past and a lot of new good DC's heve been made since then, so I'd like to make a new video that would include the most awsome, interesting and creative DC's. This time I'll try to make the video more educating, yet keeping it entertining.
So I ask of you, fellow Sketchucation members, please help me to find the best ones out there, that deserve the spotlight and could well represent what Sketchup is capable of to the non-believersIf youv'e found a good dynamic component in the 3d warehouse or you would like to share your own, please post a 3d warehouse link or attach it in the forum post. I'll credit all the models that will be featured in the video. Also if you have any good ideas that would help to make this kind of video better, I'd aprechiate your help.
This is a link to the first video

RE: On marriage and .....
Latvians had one rather interesting "ritual" of just stealing the bride. That was a sign that the bride was of great worth. The brothers of the groome used to spy on the bride by disguising as simple bypassers asking for a shelter for the night or telling to be looking for a missing goat to find out how laborious the bride is. When they came to steal her, the brothers of the bride tried to fool them by hiding the real bride and tricking them a fake one - a married woman or by dressing in the brides clothes themselves Now this has become into a fun wedding game for the folks who like to celebrate in an ethnic manner. (don't try this at home please )
I guess that happened because of the huge parental and family infuence when it came to marriage in those times. It seems that it was common sense in most of the cultures to require something in exchange of the bride. The family loses a good pair of hands and the workload rises for the rest. But now the parents aren't so dependant of their children, as in most of the western civilisation the pension system forces you to work hard all life for a more prosperous future, rather then raising more kids and "selling them to the best bidder" for a more prosperous future. Either way I don't think it works right, the eastern traditions are clashing against the spreading democratic ideas and the western world is just simply being slowly overrun by the east. And I don't see this coming to a peacefull end for neither.
I guess I brougt up too many topics in one shot, but I wish you luck in your decision Majid.

RE: What's your beginners tip?
If you want to completely get rid of Sketchups face shading while keeping the colour, then turn on the shadows and set the light slider to 0 and the dark slider to 80. I found this useful for making the RBG value of the faces to match the one in the material editor.

RE: [Plugin] [$] Artisan (1.2.3) - Feb 28, 2014
Thanks!
Just got into a problem- my laptop has a few broken arrow keys. That did not bother me before, becuse I don't use them almost never anyway, but how do I adjust the sculpt tools strenght now? It looks like only the radius is adjustable throught the VCB.

Could someone convert those proxies, so I could open them in SU 7 please.

I think that there is not enought light coming from the window. And why is that ceiling so high?

Living room fantasy
Hey!
I had a few free days and decided to participate in a modeling challange for one CGI forum. The objective was to make a living room inside a given model. I wanted to make something fun, so I tried to make a strech ceiling that can be illuminated with optical fiber cables and neon lamps to make a nice night sky effect.
Everythin was done in about five days, modeled in Sketchup and rendered in Max.The deadline for the challange is tomorow so it would be nice to get some crits today

RE: Lumion first test "crazy"
Looks very nice!
If you want to embed something the you must use the flash option in the forum.

RE: Most impressive SketchUp modelling
I think this is a great idea, but I have to point out that the pictures mustn't be added by attachment, so our forum guests could see them. Also I think this topic brings up the old story of the necessity of a showcase gallery
And all unrelated post should be deleted, by only leaving pictures with the description

RE: Sketchup + Lumion 3d = awsome
All of this was made in the Demo version, so you could say this is a demo for the demo version They offer it with alomost full functionallity, but with a very limited model library and no save option.
I mede all the scene in about 5 hours with the camera movement tweaking and encountered some kind of bug, after what I had to do it all over againPilou, yes you can. Simply use the collada or 3ds export and your good to go. I went mad importing all my old sketchup scenes and a lot of 3dwh models and watching how good they look now Only thing that can restrict you in Lumion is your graphics card as the program is very RAM efficient. From some tests I'v seen it can nicely handle even a 19 mil poly model. I rendered my scene at 1920x1080 at an average of 1 frame per second whit an AO filter and some AA. But I think that for presentational needs you can just make it realtime and record it with fraps or somthing, because it looks fantastic anyway and I guess would be real eye-candy for the clients

Sketchup + Lumion 3d = awsome
Hey guys!
I'm an architecture student and I was given an assignment to make a proposal for a building estate project. I did not get any extra credit for the animation, but I decided to make one for fun anyway. Sketchup and lumion showed to be an excelent combination for this kind of job and I really enjoy working with both. The massing part was done in Sketchup with some 3d warehause models added afterwards. I made a quick google earth zoom in and then just put it all togeather.
Enjoy!

RE: Animation
Good quality comes with long render times, and there is nothing you can do about it in any program you use. I would suggest you to convert the avi file to a different format to compres it, like MPEG-4 to get the best quality with the lowest bitrate. Just google for "avi to MPEG-4 converter" and you should get loads of options. Experiment what quality you can get under those 5mb. Also I would suggest you to do some reading about this topic to better understand how all of it works to get the best results.

RE: Manga exhibition stand
I think you should include somthing in the render to better understand the scale of the stand and use some more interesting lighting and enviroment. Also why not include some pictures for the TV's, because they look kind of boring now.
-
RE: Thea, training, trials ...
I think you have got the lightingh just right. Add some better materials and the renders will be perfect

RE: Sketchup animation in maxwell
Nice job! Welcome to the forum!
Yes you can make this kind of animation in any renderer of your choice, including V-ray.
The music was good but I found the car alarm quite disturbing. It also feels that the video is too long. I suppose it would look much better if you would use less renders and cook them a bit more to loose the noise and use some smooth transitions between the scenes. The atmosphere in the morning should be much warmer and it looks kind of booring that the sky never changes. I think it would be perfect with a time lapse sky applied in the background

RE: Budget workstation
Hey Brodie, I got the PC a few weeks ago. Here are the specs and benchmarks.
Intel, Core i7 870 (2.93GHz, 6.4GT/s, 8MB Cache, LGA1156)
Chieftec, 750W PFC Cable Management
MSI, GeForce GTS250, 1GB, Twin Frozr
Asus, P7P55D-E
Seagate, 250GB 7200RPM 16MB Barracuda 7200.12
OCZ 4GB, DDR3, 1333MHz, CL9, Kit Of 2, Gold
Seagate, 1TB 7200RPM 32MB Barracuda 7200.12
Acer, H233HEBMID, 23"I'm kind of surprised about such good performance in the OpenGl test.
When I called to order the PC, the guy on the phone convinced me that the 6 GB RAM idea wont work for my motherboard, so I took 4 GB. Only after some blue screens of death and numerous errors that were in some cases told to be caused by bad RAM, I checked the P7P55D-E qualified vendors list more carefully to figure out that I have got an incompatible RAM (sadface). I run memtest 86 to check the RAM and got a few thousand errors, but after checking each stick seperatly and changing them in places I don't get any errors in the test anymore. After that my system started to behave better and I didn't get the errors as before, but unfortunately I still get at least one random blue screen a day and I'm totally unaware of what triggers this. If the PC does crash, then it happens randomly when opening a program in the first 15 mins when I use it and afterwards it runs just fine. That does not interfere with my work much but I wonder if I should even spend my time and $$$ looking for a new pair of RAM if memtest 86 shows mine is OK.

RE: Abounded Subway Entrance Fantasy Scene
Nice texturing, but nothing seems to catch my eye in the scene. IMHO it would look better if you would dim the lights a bit and turn the sun so that the stairs would be illuminted.

RE: Budget workstation
Sure, I know about the 64 bit thing
I did some reserch and it looks like the tehnology hasn't matured enough yet and the lower capacity SSD's are not too reliable. I guess I'll stick with the two HDD's then and look what will happen in a year or so in the SSD market.
At the moment I'm only concerned about my video card choice. I've seen some good reviews about it and I hope it will cope with everything I'll do to it But what do you guys think of it?
