Basic Question: Change color of component highlight box?
I'm working in someone else's file. Highlight boxes are weird color. How do you set color of group/component highlighting (when selected) box?
Knew I saw it once but cannot find it for the life of me now. Thanks. -
Ever have Styles\Background not function anymore?
At some point in the very large model, the Styles\Background function seems to have stopped functioning. I can select the color options, set them, but they don't take effect. color of background remains the same regardless of what I do. Any ideas?
By the way, this holds true for every one of my scenes. It doesn't matter what the background color is set to. Once Ground is truned off, it always shows a medium blue background.
If I copy everything in the model to a new file, I do not have this problem. Of course then I lose every one of my 30-40 scenes. Any way to get the scenes from the first file?

RE: 2D Hatch Tool
TIG
AWESOME! The more I explore the 2D Tools, the more I got to love!
The Hatch as a material, especially for "drafting" details, is REALLY awesome!
Thanks again for your work and taking the time for instructing us Neanderthals!
You rock. -
RE: Anyone know of a "Trim" or "Fillet" tool?
Thanks TIG! Perfect! Thank you for the awesome quantity and quality of work and for being so generous to the SU community!

Anyone know of a "Trim" or "Fillet" tool?
Looking for something to trim/fillet 90 degree corners and also Trim (like in AutoCAD) where you set a knife edge and extend selected lines to the knife edge.
Any help would be appreciated!

Newb: Does Sketch Up Model limit you to 13 views of model??
I've got a SU model with maybe 25 scenes. In the "SketchupModel" toolbar, I have a pulldown for views and it only gives me 12 seemingly random scenes from my model plus "Last Save Sketchup View"
Is there a limit to how many scenes Layout "sees"?

RE: Getting Model Window to have an outline?
Man do I feel like an idjit!
I even asked someone that's been working on SU and Layout for years...they though that this could not be done. I tried it earlier and it didn't work. Trying it again after reading your response, it worked!
Awesome. I've been adding boundary lines on a separate layer and juggling the layer order all afternoon! Thanks Charlie! -
Getting Model Window to have an outline?
Again-new to Layout...
Seems that model windows by default have an invisible edge. Can you edit parameters somehow so the edge of the window is a black line? -
RE: Scrapbook items...disappearing behind my image.
Ahah! Great-thanks.

RE: Error Message regarding missing rb files when opening SU?
Is "centerpoint.rb" key to any particular plugin? I don't know of any plugin I have called "Centerpoint", must be part of another one.

Scrapbook items...disappearing behind my image.
Been on SU for years. New to Layout.
Issue: Bringing in scrapbook items (enlarged plan callout).
Want it to lay over my image window obviously.
However it "disappears" behind my image.
"Arrange\Bring to Front" does not work.
Thoughts? -
RE: Issue with installed plugins not being available...
@gábor said:
Typically plugins have one .rb or .rbs file in the Plugins folder and have a subfolder where all the other files are stored. When you startup SU those .rb and .rbs files are loaded which are in the Plugins folder (not the ones in the subfolders).
An easy way to install and keep your plugins up to date is using the Pluginstore plugin: http://sketchucation.com/resources/plugin-store-download
If you want to install your plugins in other folders than the plugins folder, Fredo's additional plugin folders tool is great help in that:
http://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=000_AdditionalPluginFoldersI hope it answers your questions.
Thanks. What's the difference between an rb and an rbs file?
Also, technically, is there a difference in the terminology "plugin" and "extension"? -
Issue with installed plugins not being available...
I have several plugins that have been dropped into my proper plugins folder, and I do not et menus for them (and they do not show up in Tools, or Window or Plugins). It seems there is some variation on how the files are dropped into the plugins folder. When a zipfile is unzipped, there could be a folder within (which may contain images and/or a bunch of rb or rbz files. There could also be a rb files OUTSIDE of that folder. If the programmer put specific files into a folder and left some outside of the folder, is that the exact way that they should be in the Plugins folder? Or should everything be pulled outside of folders and dumped into that huge "plugins" mess?
I've tried Window\Preferences\Extensions\Install Extension...and the ones in question do not appear on that list.
Thanks

Error Message regarding missing rb files when opening SU?
When I open SketchUp, I get the following message:
Error Loading File auto_centerpoint.rb
no such file to load -- ruby/singleton
Error Loading File jointpushpull.rb
undefined method `get_last_state' for nil:NilClassI'm not sure what the auro-centerpoint.rb relates to, but the error for "Joint Push Pull" is odd, because my JPP tools seems to function perfectly.
It's annoying to have this pop every day. Any suggestions?
Thanks! -
RE: Draping roads, parking, etc ONTO a TIN?
@jql said:
No its not right. If you select the surface with one click (or double click to be sure)inside one of those "drape zones" and then you just group it, the group will be created and the commong edges will be kept, so they don't destroy other surfaces.
It's pretty easy... just test it once and you'll see.
JQL
Thanks! You're right! Another case of my old brain making things more complicated then they are.

@jql said:
It doesn't have to be fully manual.
If your terrain is all smooth, you can drape in the terrain copy and the select the surfaces inside the drape lines with one click.
Then it's just a matter of grouping everyone of this drapes and layer/scene organization. Pretty quick if you ask me.
JQL
Maybe I'm missing something. It seems a bit finicky to me.
If you drape everything onto a copy of the terrain, and then group and re-layer the individual pieces, what do you do about adjacent items that will share the same edges? And example would be a sidewalk right against a road and a parking area right alongside the sidewalk. One you grouped the sidewalk, the road and the parking have both lost an edge. You'd need to go into the sidewalk, copy out that common edge lines, then go back to the road group, and Past in Place. And do that for each group that shares a common boundary with another group. Right? Or have a whole series of terrains stacked down on the z-axis, and drape each of the above elements to a terrain such that no "drapes" will be adjacent. -

I'll try to be clearer, too
(if a step in the SU-file is not clear, let me know...)Ahhh! Yes! When the extrusion/intersect method was mentioned I imagined the intersection CUTTING the terrain TIN. I have to play with intersection tool to allow the intersection content to be OUTSIDE of the TIN group. Apparently that's what you have done here.
Although it's fully-manual, this will be a pretty effective solution...thanks!
OK, well, I've tried this method on a simple model.
skp file attached
What I find is that I get the intersection as individual lines (not in a group), and without the geometry being "skinned" into a TIM.Is there a method of intersection that results in a "skinned" TIN group???
PS, to attach an image, is there a way to browse to my hard drive for it? Or does it have to be in the cloud as Photobucket, etc?

RE: Draping roads, parking, etc ONTO a TIN?
I understand Vali's Instant Road, and how to drape. Those emthods actually interact and "cut" the TIN of the google earth terrain. That's not what I'm after.
I'll try to be clearer...I'm doing a site concept presentation. I have 2D sketchup site diagrams all worked out; roads, parking. fields, wetland zones, buffer zones, etc. And all of these are on separate layers with separate materials/colors applied. So, in the presentation I want to show the whole site with just my roads and the property line as slide/scene 1. Then scene 2 adds easements, then scene 3 adds wetlands, then scene 4 adds buffer zones, etc...until I build, really , a GIS image with all factors. Ok, easy enough in 2d.
Now, I want to get all of that 2D stuff ONTO the google earth terrain.
I don't want to actually put this stuff INTO the TIN, and have the TIN cut by the actual road, etc. Using that method I would have a very difficult time controlling stuff on layers being turned on and off. The wetlands geometry would share a boundary with the road geometry, and then when I wanted to view the site without the wetlands info, for example, there are big holes in the terrain TIN because that "layer"/geometry is turned off. I don't need to actually model terrain/earthwork, and create roads, berms, etc. I just need to get that 2D diagram stuff draped ON TOP OF the terrain without interacting with it in any way. The diagram roads, parking, wetland areas are totally independent of the google earth terrain. They just lay perfectly on top of it.Any ideas? Thanks.
