    • RE: Workflow tools

I start off with hand drawn concept sketches and concept massing in sketchup.from there i progress to defined wall and floor thicknesses. i organize my models with components, groups and groups of groups. when my 3d model is complete i generate 2d documentation by making section cuts through the model which are then laid out on paper in 'layout' to scale. then I hatch the line work in photoshop.

    • RE: Best Renderer?

wow a lot of good advice!

It does make sense you use specific programs for specific types of renders...
which is why I think a descriptive catalog of render programs is a fantastic idea! ..although it would require continuous reiteration to keep up with the changes/upgrades with every program re release.

    • Best Renderer?

Hey, there are so many render plugins that can now be used in or with sketchup. So far I've used Vray and Shaderlight.
what are people's personal preference in choosing a render program?

from what I've seen I'll try to master maxwell.

^ these were by far the best renders I HAVE EVER SEEN. while Vray is good, to me these look better.

      also hear Thea is good.
      any thoughts?

perhaps making an "extremely" realistic render comes down to our knowledge of the program, irrespective of what that program is.

    • RE: Flatterly plugin and sketchup 8 help please

Hi I am having the same problem. the plugin appears ticked in the system preferences (window tab) but it is not on the toolbars option (view tab), I tried changing my sketchup folder name from 8 to 7 but was not allowed. how'd you get yours to work?

      kind regards,

    • RE: Ruby Script Suggestions

hey you probably already know this and it may not help you, but you can compress the size of a sketchup model by copying everything in your sketchup file (ctrl a) and pasting it in a new sketchup file.then save the file. you'll notice the decrease. Depending on file size this can reduce the size to a tenth of what it was.
