Jasonh1234 started a thread relating to top 5 add ons for modeling here: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=79&t=6625

I was wondering about the whole job from conception to completion, what apps y'all use to get the job done and why.
Do you start from a hand drawing to CAD, then to SU and beyond from there?
What CAD invironment do you use and why, do you use converting wares, if you animate what software do you use for editing, or what render or post editing software do you use.

This really could be very informative to all, especially to those that have workflow issues or have a need for an app that they really do not know even exists and could be very benificial to their workflow.

I start off with hand drawn concept sketches and concept massing in sketchup.from there i progress to defined wall and floor thicknesses. i organize my models with components, groups and groups of groups. when my 3d model is complete i generate 2d documentation by making section cuts through the model which are then laid out on paper in 'layout' to scale. then I hatch the line work in photoshop.

I start on the board, Pete. 2B pencil and a role of Multitix Greaseproof paper.

Work in plan ans section up til I have ideas on paper enough to start in SU. Scan and import an image and start playing with shapes, etc as a mass model / form. Cut sections / plans and print out again [now at scale and developed a little more] so now I have the framework of the project. work up interiors by hand generating ideas then go to work in SU to expand on the model.

I do have Spirit Architecture http://www.softtech.com/ which is a BIM program that talks well with SU but I don't use it anywhere near what I should as it is super powerful in exporting CAD docs. Maybe I just can't drag myself away from the SU interface.....

Amazing thing is how much we have learned in the last four years, back then I was really interested to know this stuff, now it feels as if I can teach it.
