    • RE: Scifi Sketchup Modeling

      Liam, these are excellent models.

I like the solar explorers especially. I am working on similar stuff for a game idea.

Check out this site for some in depth technical info for developing realistic spaceships.

I think the maximum speed for generating 1G artifical gravity by centrifuge is 2 revolutions per minute (any faster and your crew would start puking due to awareness of spin: the coriolis effect). This rotation speed for 1G requires a minimum diameter of nearly 500 metres - half a klik! A slower spin would need a larger diameter to maintain 1G - if you see what I mean.

You could have spins at equivalent martian or lunar gravities though.

I'm a fan, keep it up.

Just found this, worth watching to see the final reveal of the working technology: link to 10GUI.com. Original concept by R. Clayton Miller.

And there is what looks like a skippy at the end πŸ˜„

The panther render is most effective. If you squint at the picture, the camoflage pattern merges into the background extremely well.

      Great modeling too!

    • Styles no longer saving in individual scenes

I am trying to create multiple scene views of a model, which includes one scene in x-ray view.

When I apply the x-ray style to the view and update the scene data for that view, the x-ray style is applied to the other scenes as well and vice-versa.

This used to work fine in version 6.

Any suggestions to solve this gratefully received.

Some members may not have heard about Roger Shawyer's emdrive:

      http://www.emdrive.com/

This caused quite a kerfuffle in scientific circles when reviewed in New Scientist as it offers a form of reactionless-propulsion but appears break the conservation of momentum rule.

According to a link from wikipedia, a team of Chinese reserachers have confirmed the theory and are building a demonstration model.

Excellent form, I like the front-end especially. Perhaps you could embellish it with some extra surface detail such as aerials and hand-holds etc.

    • RE: [Plugin] Random Painter (Updated March 9th, 09)

You can also choose your colour values using this free utility from NOVOSIB:

      http://www.linxexplorer.com/colorpicker.html

Visual Color Picker is very easy to use and powerful RGB-HSV-HSL-CMYK-HEX color selector. The program allows you to easily capture color value from any position of the screen even if program does not have input focus. The program has small screen capture preview area. By clicking associated button, you will get the associated RGB value in the dialog. The RGB color is automatically translated to RGB, HSV, CMYK and HTML HEX values. The program has standard and custom color tables. Text-background preview allows you to see how two colors will look next to each.

I use it all the time πŸ€“

    • RE: Manhattan sketchup model

Charlyboy, would it work for you if I uploaded a version 5 of the model, so you can load into 6.4.112?

I've completed the tidy up using this great workaround from Moderator Jim:

One technique I remember from here is to assign a shortcut to Reverse Faces, then select the PushPull tool because it does auto-select on hover. Then, hover the PushPull tool over each face and hit the shortcut key - it makes quick work of it.

I've retained 99% of the geometry and there is a bit of tri-tesselation left over but some style settings can alleviate these.
