almost perfect, i need the transition where the dip starts to be smooth, an arc not an angle see the attached drawing where i drew an arc on your wall you did on one side, if i could make that transition smooth, that would would great
kind of like the wall is smoothly undulating up and down
thanks so much everyone
i want it to look exactly like the one that jeff did, but with a little more dip, very smooth and very clean, not sure what he means by it not being clean geometry, looks clean to me now i just have to figure out how to do what he did
i will definitley play with the soapskinbubble plugin though, that looks like a cool plugin

make the cylinder bigger and rotate it slightly before intersecting.

select everything (wall and cylinder) before intersecting with model, that way there will be a face left behind where the cutout is.<!-- ia0 -->Capture2.JPG<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:3an4xhbc]
okay I got this to work, thanks!!! would also love to know how Jeff did it with the sand box tools

i'm not certain you've described your shape yet.. the one i uploaded is level when pulling from the centerpoint. is that what you want? the tops could also be rounded out so it's not an abrupt dip..
this one is quickly roughed out but it will hopefully get the idea across..
that is exactly what I want to do, how did you do that? and can the dip be more exaggerated but still smooth like you have it
did you use sand box tools?

is this what your trying to do.<!-- ia3 -->Capture.JPG<!-- ia3 -->[/attachment:pv23l4ng]<!-- ia2 -->Capture2.JPG<!-- ia2 -->[/attachment:pv23l4ng]<!-- ia1 -->Capture3.JPG<!-- ia1 -->[/attachment:pv23l4ng]<!-- ia0 -->Capture4.JPG<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:pv23l4ng]
there is also a plugin called jointpushpull that can push/pull curved surfaces.
Yes! you guys are the best, would not have made it through school with out this forum
now is there a way to make the transition where the dip starts a little smoother using that interset model method?
also, how do I make the cut out part a face, or the top of the wall closed again
and the curve smoother

i tried the joint push pull ruby too, it didnt work either, it wont push all the way through a curved surface, meaning all the way through the wall, or maybe i am just using it wrong
i want to basically be able to draw an arc on the curved surface and push it throuh so the top part of the wall i want to dip would disappear where I pushed it through
Hello SU folks,
I need to draw a curved wall, that smoothly dips up and down. i tried downloading the toolonsurface ruby, b/c I thought I would be able to push and pull curved surfaces but it only let me draw on them, not push and pull.
See the attached SU drawing, I need the red area in the wall to smoothly dip lower and then come back up, any thoughts on how i would draw that? Thanks for the help!

I have not used it myself but here is a video on how it integrates with SU.
http://www.landfx.com/videos/13-designingwith3d/13-designingwith3d.htm
Thanks, i have watched that before and I did not think the model they were working on looked that great, just wasnt sure if that was b/c of LandFX or if it just had to do with the person giving the instruction video.
Anyone use these two programs togther? I think you have to use them via cad, not sure, have not tried it yet, just wanted to see if anyone has and if the results looked good.

It seems like your model was rotated slightly for some reason, I rotated it back so it should all be square now.
thanks remus!!, do you know how i did that? alot of my drawings come out slighty not square, is it something i have to set up at the begining of the drawing?
yes here is one of the components, its a planter box, i basically want to be able to show an elevation of it, but when i make is parallel and look at the front its not parallel
I have a couple of different pretty simple shapes I drew using the rectangle tool and push pull, I want to look at a front , parallel view of them, then export them into cad, when I set up the front view, then set the camara to parallel they are not square, any ideas on why this is, the rectangle tool should automatically draw square correct? Thanks for any help.

Hi Rudbeckia, hi folks.
If the cursor is over empty space, the zoom will be very slow. Move the cursor over some geometry to get a better response.
Just ideas.
thanks that seems to work, i drew a base plane under the entire drawing and its not doing it as much
its driving me insane, orbiting sometimes makes it catch
The scroll button on my mouse will sometimes zoom in and out very slowly then all of the sudden it catches and scrolls normally, anyone else have this problem??
Hello smart Sketchup people, i have 2 questions if any one can help.
I was told by someone in my class that it is possible to import a cad file into SU and have it create faces for you without havint to redraw, is this true?
Is it possible to import from SU to CAD without having the lines come in as a million different segments and the curves come in not smoooth?
thanks
I was about to start a thread with the same title so I guess I will just post a question here.
When exporting to CAD is there a way to make the lines not come in as a bunch of segments, for example a curve in SU is importing to CAD and a million different lines? Or is the idea that you have to redraw it in CAD?
Also sometimes my CAD export is differnt lines stacked on top of each other making the cad drawing sluggish, any thoughts?
