Okay this might be a dumb question but how can AB be parallel to E and CD be parallel to E but AB is not parallel to CD

    • RE: Diagonal line to make face

      Thanks.

If its not planer, wouldn't the face only close where it is? Meaning if I drew a diagonal only part of the face would close letting me know where the problem is. But the whole face closes....as if there is no problem

    • Diagonal line to make face

      Hello SU

I have some ramps I have drawn and to close the face of the surface of the ramp, I am having to draw a diagonal line from corner to corner. When I do that the face completely closes at all 4 corners. When I then erase the diagonal the whole face disappears....any ideas on what is happening here?

    • RE: Tin problem

Okay actually the lines are many many segments......they are one polyline in CAD so not sure why they came in that way.

I discovered if I use simplfy contours but instead of the default 10, i use 1, its almost perfect but not still problems in some sreas with the tin not touching the contours. the computer freezes if I try to use sandbox without simplfy first

Thanks so much, will try dividing the lines this morning

Any idea on why sandbox works fine if I only select a portion of the contours?

so is simplfy contours plugin creating a problem? doesn't that reduce the vertices?

how do check the amount of vertices in each curve

    • RE: Tin problem

Yes this part I am showing in the image is a flat sloped terrain.

I brought the contours in from CAD, simplified, and made from contours.

Can you explain a little further about the vertices?

If I select just a portion of the entire contours (for example if I were to select just half of what you see in this image) and make the tin it doesn't happen

    • Tin problem

      Hi SU folks,

I have a fairly simple set of contours that will not make a tin correctly.

The tin touches the contours in some places and doesn't in others. Any ideas what might cause this? Image attached, not sure if it readable though

    • Eye view problem

      Hi Folks

I am trying to set up an eye level view.

When I select the camera>position camera tool, then choose the plane my person is standing on, then type 5'6" bc thats the eye height I want, the camera jumps below the plane I choose......any thoughts?

      Hello

How do I export contours out of sketchup as a PDF or CAD file and have the contour lines be
continuous lines. The are exporting out as 1000s of tiny segments

      thanks for any help

the export to pdf is bringing the contours into AI as not lines. the contour lines are thousands of segments

Does anyone have an idea why when I export a model scene as a pdf then open in illustrator, the lines come in with one line being many. Meaning it like there are lines stacked on one another

Is export 2d graphic as PDF the best way to go from skecthup to illustrator?

    • Scale and stamping and 3d print

      Hi folks

Sorry for all the 3D printing questions I have put on here. Im trying to research the answers online but I am getting conflicting answers.

So i end up back here 😄

First question. I have a terrain, generated from contours, with a terrain skirt added. When I run "solid inspector" everything is fine. When I then stamp the buildings in, turn the building layer off, then run solid inspector the terrain is a mess everywhere it is stamped. Can you not 3d print terrain with a footprint stamps?

Question two: The site I am working on is 100 acres. I want to scale it down in SU before I put it in maker bot for the 3d print. When I scale it down everything disappears. Can SU not work with super small but complex models?

Thanks for any help you can give.

    • Mold of topo

      Hello again

I need to make a mold of a site in SU on a 3d printer

Meaning I want the 3d printer to print the underside of the topography surface

Put another way, I need to add a "terrain skirt" but in the opposite direction from what the plugin naturally does

Any thoughts on how you would go about making a terrain surface "thick" for the 3d printer but in the opposite way?
