I see now what you are saying, so the bldg you attached would print on a 3d printer? Even though it is still faces not walls? Bc what you have done would be a lot faster than redrawing all the sides of the bldgs as walls

The "shells" need walls though correct? Meaning they cant just be faces?

Im wondering if there is a quick way to make walls from a bunch of buildings that are just faces.

Sorry I am probably not explaining very well.

A 3d printer will not read just a face in SU even in the faces are closed, like a cube. It does not read the cube as a solid......at least thats what i have been told.

Shellify seems like it might do the opposite of what I want. The problem is a 3d printer wont print just a "shell" or just faces with no thickness

If you you do the reverse faces with a smaller building does it make walls for you?

      One of them is attached.

They are just faces. I was told to 3d print them they have to have wall thickness.

Or is there a way for me to make them solid (so not void in middle like SU draws)

      Hi SU forum

I have a bunch of buildings I was given from an architect that are drawn with faces only, no wall thickness

I need to send them to a 3d printer.....is there a fast way for me to add wall thickness to the outer walls of all of them?

    • Topo to 3d printer

      Hi SU Folks

I have some topography in sketchup generated from contour lines. I need to make
the topography "thicker" (not just a surface) in order to try and send it to a 3d printer

I thought intersecting the terrain with a solid cube, then possible erasing the cube might work but my computer keeps crashing (its a large site)

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

      Thanks Chris

Yes I know photoshop and podium....VUE is the one I dont know very well. I will search around on here and see if I can find the info for VUE you mention.

I do not have the VUE SU importer yet, so I will look into that. Thanks for the help!

    • Camera Views w/ SU and Other Programs

      Hi SU Folks!

Hope everyone had a good new year! I have a quick question about camera views. I want to

set up a scene in SU, and render a portion of that view (for example all of the walls) with Podium or KT and export it as a jpeg

Then I want to import the same SU model into VUE, add the plants, render the plants only, export at jpeg

Then put it all together in Photoshop. Does anyone do this? I watched a webinar where the guy did this with 3dsmax and photoshop

I realize the above is a lot of steps, but if someone could just help me out with how to match my camera views bt SU and other programs I would appreciate it. Thanks πŸ˜„

Can you point me in the right direction with the shadows, having a hard time getting the shadows right. Is there a trick to the shadows in photomatch?

      Hi Sketchup Forum,

I want to add some containers w/ plants modeled in sketchup to a photograph

I dont want redraw the photograph (like you would do in photomatch) I just want to use the photo as background, but have the containers be in perspective with the photograph, would I still use photomatch for this?

      thanks for help

      Hi Rudbeckia

I rather like the FormFonts styles but being their creator I'm probably biased. I attach an example showing one of my favorites. It is known as the Fineline Ink Sketch style. Click on the image for a bigger version.

      Regards, Ross

Thanks! Yes the styles on the site look great, doing some research for my company........do you have a student price for when I go back to school πŸ˜„

Does anyone use formfonts styles? Are they good? Do they work well, worth the money?

Exporter should handle that situation too. Just make sure that there are no visible back-faces and front face has a texture. Then e back-face with texture will be ignored.

I started over with all the textures, put them all back to default repainted just the front faces and tried again and it still does not work, starting to piss me off

i guess i just need to read more about textures and KT b.c i am doing something wrong

      thanks for the help though

Excessive reflection in stairs indicates that you have applied texture to back-side. If you look stairs there is actually texture, it's just really faint.

Okay, so I need to take the textures off the back side?

Sertainly! Before you apply any texture to model, make sure that there are no blue faces (back-face) visible. Textures should be applied only to front face (white).

thanks! I actually applied the same texture to the front and the back of face and that seems to be working, its that incorrect?
