I believe the solution to this problem is to subdivide that circular face into several smaller faces. That should help.

Hi,
Perhaps I'm crazy, but it seems to me that before when you aligned an axis to a face it would keep that alignment no matter what. But now I'm finding that if you are inside a component/group and you align an axis to a face in that component/group it only remain that way until you exit the component/group, at which time it reverts back the original location. Is there a way to set it up so that the axis remains in the same orientation wether or not you are inside or outside of the component/group? The reason being, I have a building that I am modelling in which each floor is a group. The building faces are not at 90deg to each other and when placing windows I need to re-align the axis within each floor each time I want to place windows correctly. Before I was able to set the alignment to a face, go into a group and add all the windows I needed and then re-align the axis for the next face of the building etc. And when it was all said and done I would just reset the axis back to the original location.
Is there a setting to change this? Or am I just dreaming?

Wow. That looks like quite a bit of work...can't wait to see it all finished. After looking at the animation I wouldn't doubt if it was done with Sketchup in the first place.

Lovely picture, I do have to agree with the splash suggestion. As it is the water looks a little syrupy.
Well I believe the Fog slot was meant to represent the phenomena of seeing thick glass on edge, the iron in the glass absorbs the infra-red and ultra-violet making it look green. http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080308120406AAfKk3m so its not really a cheat per se.
Your other option would be to use a 2d face, drape it using sandbox tools and then use Joint Push Pull to extrude the face to whatever thickness you need.
Would it be possible to go to either a lumberyard or hardware store and just take a picture?
Wow...that is pretty impressive. Great job!
After the initial shock of the change I realize what Devin was saying makes sense. No reason not to integrate it all together. Having said that, does anyone know if it is or will be possible to setup which forum threads are shown individually? I mean, back with ASGVIS there really was only two thread groups to deal with of which I only used the Sketchup based one (although there is great information in the Rhino sections as well). But now that Chaos Group has taken it over there are like 5+ groups of which I am only really interested in viewing one.
I hope this post isn't in violation of Sketchucation forum rules. If it is I offer my apologies, I would have posted this over at Chaos' forum if I had the privileges.

If you have an alpha map (black/white) you can use it as a mask for transparency instead of having to check the box.
Do you have an address for this website? Can't find it through Google.
Not to mention all of Urgen's amazing texturing.
If you want to edit the vray material in Material Studio (assuming the material has .vismat as extension) you 'Right-click' on Scene Material and select 'add material -> add vraymtl' it will then pop up a browser box where you search for your .vismat material.
If you want to open it in VraySU you open the material editor and once again right click on Scene Material and select 'add material -> add vraymtl'.
Edit: Sorry...it should be right click and import new material'
Hope that helps,
Rob
Pixero,
These are AMAZING! I've been trying so so so so hard to make half decent looking box-hedges and they always looked very ugly and unrealistic. But this blows my mind away! Thanks.

If he looks around there is an opacity setting for both the background image and the model.
Edit: They seem to have moved it. If you go into 'Styles' and edit your current style under the last tab (Modeling) down near the bottom is two sliders with the Match Photo Header. Tell him to Uncheck the foreground slider.
Rob
In the Vray Material Editor if you right click in list of materials there is an option to 'Load Vray Material' it will then open up a browser in which you can direct it to the .vismat file you need.

They say you can demo for 30days for 99.50 EU, but you can pay 29.00 EU for a 1 month floating license? I'm guessing the 99.50 full version includes some sort of modeler other than sketchup. Otherwise why would you bother paying 99.50?

Dave - Sorry, I read your post too quickly. I'll try that and see if makes a difference.
Honoluludesktop - I agree totally with what you're saying..in theory. But unfortunately we don't really have the option to stock a lot of samples in-house and many of our clients have a hard time picturing color swatches on a building. But if you look at the sample jpg above the two colors are completely different.
Anyways, I found a work around. Simply, don't use sketchup native colors. It might take up more resources but I'm not going to import color swatches made in photoshop as jpgs.
Thanks for all your help guys,
Rob
Edit: Indeed Dave you are correct. Changing those sliders did the trick. Thanks for tip
Another thing I noticed. This only seems to occur with Sketchup native colors. If I were to import a color swatch as a texture it doesn't behave the same.
Thanks for the tip, unfortunately 'Use sun for shading' wasn't checked and no shadows are turned on. Any other options?
