Hi raduteo The sketchup importers on large meshes, models with unwarped materials, and sometimes for no reason aparent, can be almost useless. If you really want to import a high poly model into sketchup and avoid that error try dividing the model in 2 or 3 parts if possible in other software and import one at a time (preferably each part in a new file to avoid more errors. hope it helps David

raduteo The mtl file was missing a colour definition [Kd] and I also think SUp needs a jpg rather than a bmp [I did a save_as and also edited the mtl file to suit]... Anyway it then worked... I need to trap mtl's with a texture but no colour [using texture.average_color if no Kd ?]... I am looking at various fixes and other improvements... Please check out the Ruby Forum over the coming days...[image: OIWu_test.jpg]Updated...

The numbers are the number of points and polygons used "as a hint to decide how much space to pre-allocate to speed up adding points and polygons." It may decrease importing time, it may not. I am not aware of any limit, but I don't know what the result is of using numbers that are very large.

Well, in V-Ray the dispalcement has a very weird result, you think subdividing the mesh will make the dispalcement work? Also, what is the max polycount per model that SU can handle, is it better to break up a large model into segments or import it as a hole?

Thanks, Dylan. I wasn't sure. Before SU 7 had this "improvement" and we used to be able to handle 1024 pixel images only, there was a "registry hack" to access 2028 pixel images but it was Windows only. Good to know it works on Macs now, too!

My plan is to do all mechanical modeling in SU, import it in Zbrush and subdivide it without the smooth option on, make the texture and add surface details.

Hi folks. I would simply draw a line that goes from one end of the object to the opposite end and centered on the two ends. To avoid messing with the model, I would group it if not done already. Then, after going in X-Ray Mode, I would select both the object and the line and I would grab the selection by the midpoint of the line and move it in order to snap the grabbed midpoint to the origin. Finally I would delete the added line and deactivate X-Ray mode. Just ideas.

Hi Radu, Have a look at the Extensions index and search fopr Subdivide and Smooth, Free for deformation, Free scale (some may add more - these are the ones that come to my mind first). Teezer bet me but saying the same actually.

@raduteo said: is there a UV mapping plugin or something like that? I searched but didn't find anything but I'm desperately hoping there is, or a 3rd pary UV mapping program that works well with sketchup? Thanks. any luck yet... im thinking of learning to uvmap as well
