    • RE: SketchUp 2017 - anti aliasing problem Mac OS Sierra

I figured out a consistent way to get anti aliasing to work on my MBP 2016 running macOS Sierra.

For this to work you need the MacBook plugged into an external monitor, I have had it working on 2 different external monitors.

1 - Launch Layout and move the window to the external monitor.
2 - Right click on layout viewport to SketchUp model and select 'open with SketchUp' (SketchUp should not be running)
3 - SketchUp should launch on MacBook screen with much finer line work.

Don't know why it works but is does.

    • RE: SketchUp 2017 - anti aliasing problem Mac OS Sierra

Just the other day as I was working away I opened a new SketchUp window to past some parts in and noticed that it had smooth crisp anti aliasing line work. It was only this window. I couldn't recreate it by opening more windows.

Working on a Retina display with a 1080p monitor hooked up if I dragged the window to the secondary monitor it looked good, not like it usually does.

I could drag other projects / SketchUp files into this window and they would look really good. I changed the style settings to match my other open SketchUp windows and I could see a clear difference.

I kept this window open for a few days to enjoy the crisp line work before I had to restart due to an update.

Hopefully this is fixed with High Sierra & SketchUp 2018

    • RE: Updating model to 2017 throws views out in Layout

I have had a similar problem as the way I have always used scenes is that I have "Camera" scenes which only have the camera ticked so they can be reused, "Layer" scenes which show particular entities with the camera un-ticked. In SketchUp 2017 this workflow does not work, as Layout 2017 will disregard the camera settings once I change from a "camera" view to a "Layer" view. Previously I could set the scene to "Plan", then stack "Layer" views onto of each other and they each kept the first chosen camera scene. Now when I do this the stacked layers do not match up and it has to be done manually. The only work around is to use SketchUp 2016. I have messaged the SketchUp team and they are aware and apparently working on a solution.

    • RE: El Capitan

I bit the bullet and upgraded about a week ago and have found no problems, in some other threads others were saying presentation mode in Layout will crash it so I have stayed away from that (I don't use that feature anyway).

I have found that orbiting the model seems to be a lot smoother also you can use the native OS X full screen mode.

I run it on a MBP 15" early 2011 machine for work.

If SketchUp 2016 has support for Metal on the new OS that would be awesome.

    • Layout 2014 vector rendering bug splat

I use layout & sketch up everyday for work, since upgrading to v2014 Layout crashes every time I try to vector render a simple scene. Hybrid rendering works fine.

Is anyone else having this issue, its so frustrating.

    • RE: SketchUp 2014 Wishlist

More functionality with the "Entity Info" window like:

      1. able to change the volume or area to m2 or cm2 (mm2 has too many decimal places to be useful unless your designing jewellery)
      2. adding height, length & width so I can see overall dimensions of group/component at a glance.
3)Check boxes in preferences to add, subtract or change the functions of entity info.

Control of SU layers in Layout

Ability to delete multiple scenes at once rather than 1 at a time

Support in preferences to change anti aliasing on mac like on windows

    • RE: Problems since updating to MacOS Maverick

Orbiting models still stuttering while using the wacom pro, smooth orbiting using magic mouse, three button mouse & trackpad. But if I TURN ON shadows, orbiting with wacom becomes smooth....? I would have thought it to be the other way around. Turning off shadows, back to stuttering, very strange behaviour.
Also some models I have worked on recently start to orbit smoothly as they get more complicated or I turn on transparency, but only sometimes, very strange.
I hope they fix this along with the window panels not sticking together in the next update.

I had this problem of my $2700 MacBook Pro showing jagged lines compared to my $1200 old acer, the osx version of sketchup does not give anti-aliasing options as on windows machines, but after a lot of digging on the inter webs you can force it using this line in the ruby editor:

      Test.set_AA_method(4)

      Now it looks much better

What are the controls for this command?

      Window>Ruby Console>
Type in or copy & paste the line of code
      press enter
      restart sketchup
the number in (brackets) is the level of anti-aliasing (0) being the default (4) being the maximum.
SketchUp will remember the setting until you change it

Strange, I've found an old model with lots of detail and it orbits smoothly with the Wacom Intuos pro (I've just upgraded) but as soon as I draw a small cube next to it, it stutters again. All other older models stutter and any new ones created. I have all new updated drivers for the tablet, repaired permissions & the disk..? The magic mouse works fine though. I have a 2011 macbook pro 15, this never happened before Mavericks. Any other suggestions...? Reinstall Sketchup perhaps..?
