2 questions about a 3Dconnexion 3d mouse
Hello,
I am considering to buy this 3D mouse from 3dconnexion: http://www.3dconnexion.com/products/spacemousepro.html
I have only two questions left. Maybe someone can provide me with an answer. It would be greatly appreciated!
1. Like most of us I use mostly shortcuts to acces my tools. My question is: are the buttons on the Spacemouse Pro (or a similar 3d mouse) handy enough to use them as shortcuts? Are they fast enough? Do you have to switch back to the keyboard a lot to use some shortcuts that are not mapped onto the 3d mouse?
2. Is the "feel" of the instrument similar in different application (ex.: blender, 3ds max, modo, ...)? Is the feeling similar enough to use it across defferent platforms without too much issues?
Thanks in advance!

RE: Solution for the future of Sketchup?

@P
You've outgrown the app. It happens.
Plugins can help but at the end of the day if its not adding value to what you do you need a different solution.
No point asking it to do things it is not meant to do.
Maybe you're right. But still, I literaly dream about the possibility of a program where you can model like in Sketchup and where you can do a lot of other things on an advanced level and that has an endless poly-cout limit. It would be heaven.

I believe that all 3D modeling programs should allow the user to configure the interface in whatever way they wish. I hate Vue's interface and mouse control... HATE!
I agree. You should be able to select the shortcut and navigation-set of your desired program in every 3D program. It would be awesome.

RE: Solution for the future of Sketchup?
Hello,
I'm sorry for maybe using words that are a bit too strong for what I mean. I love Sketchup for its modelling capacities, let there be no misunderstanding about that. I think I will probably continue to use Skethcup for a long time to come. But it just frustrates me how slow the program is when the model starts to become more complex. And there are other problems too: solid objects are mostly no solid objects anymore after you have used the solid tools, texture-mapping is very clumsy, ...

Solution for the future of Sketchup?
Hello,
There is a question I have been asking myself for some time now. There are a lot of people who are fed up with the low performance of Sketchup when you are working with slightly more complex models. Skethcup is the best tool for modelling non-organic things, but is awful at almost every other task.
Would it be possible for anyone to build some kind of plugin for a program like 3ds Max or Blender that installs some kind of "Sketchup-modelling mode"? A plugin that would allow you to model the same way as you do in Sketchup, but also allows you to do all the other things with the tools of another program?
It would be nice I think. Or is this a stupid idea?

RE: Overexposed parts problem ( Maxwell Render )
Hey numerobis,
Thanks for the advice. I understand what you say: in reality it's also like this. I was only hoping there was some solution in the 3d world. I think I will try the option with the two different exposure shots.
I don't always understand how other people are managing there lights. Like, when you have a look at this image in attachement. (made by http://nemostudio.pl) you can see that the sun is casting bright rays of light on the floor in the living room, but at the same time all the rooms in the appartement are lit very evenly and diffuse.
@Krisidious: Haha I think I know what you mean. I'm sorry, English is not my native language.

RE: Overexposed parts problem ( Maxwell Render )
Yes, I have tried to solve it with the burn value but then the part that is overexposed becomes very flat (no detail) and some strange color shifts also occur. The burn value in these images is already lowered besides.

Overexposed parts problem ( Maxwell Render )
Hello,
I don't know if I am the only one with this problem, but I always have parts that are overexposed near windows in my interiors (see the top of the counter in the examples). I try to solve this with blinds in the windows and a hole in the wall behind the camera so that there is more light coming in from the other side but this is not good for render times. How would you guys solve this?

RE: My first Maxwell interior. Advise is very welcome!
Listening to the various comments, I have applied multiple changes and I think I was able to improve it. (less light comming from the front now and a couple of other tweaks)

Thanks a lot for the advice Jason, Richard and Olishea!! I will see what I can do with these tips and then post the result.

RE: My first Maxwell interior. Advise is very welcome!
Thanks for writing down your opinion Jason. Personaly, I also don't really see a problem with the verticals. It doesn't bother me. The time of two-point perspective drawings is about two decades behind us, no? The only time it bothers me is when the wideness of the field of view is really exagerated.
Besides, I used to draw with 3 vanishing points. Like in this old drawing of mine. I think it makes it much more interesting then with 2 vanishing points.

@Chedda: Thanks! The laptop can be downloaded for free here: http://www.modelplusmodel.com/tech/apple-macbook-pro-15.html
@Novena: Thanks! Interesting, I will try this! Thanks. I am not sure what you mean by "shifting the lens in the Y-axis" Do you mean you would change the composition?

My first Maxwell interior. Advise is very welcome!
Hello everyone,
this the first interior that I have done. Any advice is more than welcome! It's an appartement of my own imagination at the sea-side. It is done with Sketchup, Maxwell Render and a bit of photoshop. The floor is overexposed at one point, but I don't know how to avoid this. Also, the carpet under the table has no texture, but I want it to be pretty white, and when I apply a texture, it always becomes gray.
Best,
Pieter

I'm sorry, I didn't see the numbers at the top. Thanks for your response!

RE: 3D model source [including SKP files]
Hey Polantis,
I love your website, but I have a question for you: would it be possible to add the option to show more results at once when browsing the models? Now you can only see 10 at a time and you have to click "next" all the time. I personaly would love to have the option to have like 200 items visible at once. But if that's not possible, somewhat less would also be cool of course.
Thanks!
Pieter
