I use a 3DConnexion SpaceNavigator 3D mouse with SU (and love it ).

It would be nice if there was a button, setting or hotkey so that instead of controlling the world it controlled only a given object! Then I thought... perhaps you can and I just don't know how!!

Recently I was creating a glass jar full of odd nails and bolts etc and I need to grab each object, move and rotate it into a position like it fell naturally there (perhaps I should just drop the who lot in with sketchyphysics) and thought it would great if I could click on an object and move it with the 3d mouse independently of the world into postion then select the next object etc.

Any thoughts on if this is doable or if not other shortcuts? This will be twilight rendered so it needs to look quite real for the positioning.

This looks like it's going to help me a lot, (THANKS) I'm wondering about what it's telling me. In this particular group its says I have a mess but I'm not 100% sure why. So Orange is a hole and Red is an error? what kind of error? Looking at the pic below, what should I be looking to fix?

Cheers! I found a tool called solid Inspector which shows some red and orange lines. I'm not 100% sure what the problem is in some cases (although in others it's obvious). I'll see if I can track down where to ask about those tools

Time to go buy a ruby book, I can see a chance to make some real money here

It only handles the most basic of loops, ie with no intersections.

If I wanted to select the loop in the image below in some other modelling packages I would alt-click any of the selected edges in this image and it would select the loop. In this simple example, sure I could drag select but in more complex ones I would be selecting all sorts of irrelevent stuff in the middle too. Also, they loop is not necessarily co-planar so a drag select can be difficult from that too

Any thoughts?

I was trying the blender "precision modelling" tutorial for 608 bearing with SU8 to see if I could and to learn along the way ( http://www.rab3d.com/tutorial.html ) and I came across a couple of issues that I wanted to check where SU issues or user issues (ie my fault) The entire model is only 7mm wide and I had the model precision set to mm and 3 decimal places or precision but I found some things didn't work.

1. The Curve tool wouldn't really work, I couldn't create a curve that small
2. FollowMe run on a complex face lost a lot of it's complexity and just spun the outline.

I ended up getting around these with the rotation tool after scaling up by x10 (and still having problems with curve and follow me). Did I hit an SU limitation?

Got done though These are great tutorials and the guy who puts them together is, well, Precise!

Is there a way to select a loop in SU 8 (edge or face loop) ? I heard something about "select tools" which while useful, can't do this. Something like the "Alt-Select" in Blender.

Does/should this work with SU 8?

I'm not seeing any colours or new models created, even with the downloaded example but the example skp file is v7.

I suspect v8 needs a plugin like this too. If there is some other way to find doubles/duplicates/manifolds etc I'd love to know
