That's true. However especially this texture scaling issue is the reason why one should not scale groups/components only just a little bit (so that the different instances do not differ too much from the definition itself). Just an example: I model everything in a bigger scale knowing that SU has issues with too small scales. Now if I use ten instances of the same component and at the end I scale everything back, the texture will get distorted on each so the scale definition command is useful in this case. In the above case, the model was already messed up (some parts with scaled while other parts with normal texture) so here it's almost all the same which method we choose, neither is really "clean" any more.

I follow you, I'm not very familiar with the solid tools yet, I'll have to explore those. I understand from your guidance that I need to fix the model according to your guidelines before I can use these tools to create a wall thickness. Thank you

@jason_maranto said: As I said Maxwell will not respect Sketchup section cuts at all -- the sample scene from Gaieus contains a section cut (which again Maxwell does not see or render). If you wish to do a section cut effect and not use Z-Clip Planes then you will have to manually separate the geometry and set the group you want to be "cut away" to "hide from camera"... like this: <!-- ia0 -->SectionCut_j.skp<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:19y7atlf] All you need to do is select the section plane and context click to choose "create group from slice", then explode any geometry necessary to let the new "section plane" group divide the relevant geometry... then group the parts you wish to hide and context click to select Maxwell>Hide from>Camera. Here's the resulting render: <!-- ia1 -->SectionCut_j.jpg<!-- ia1 -->[/attachment:19y7atlf] Best, Jason. WOW thank you very much! I am able to reproduce the results from your explanation I have tried the "hide from camera" option before but I think it failed because I didn't group it first. Thanks again

Be sure you select the correct projection, according to your model (image). Also, be sure that you have front view activated, not back view, in sketchup viewport. If green axis is with dotted part towards you, is OK. But if the dotted line is pointing at the horizon, you are looking to your model from back and that can explain why you are seeing the model that way. [image: YUBT_2010-12-16_144322.png]

Nick, This is a good place for that discussion....ive been part of many good SU to Max discussions on the SU forum...I didnt intend for my comments to make you feel like a noob or that they were out of place. I approached it more as a wholistic process in which you would need max as an essential part of your work flow and I can only relate that way because thats how it is with me....I use it so much that I was forced into learning about how it worked and that made working between the two programs a whole lot easier.

@thomthom said: but when I use V-Ray fro Sketchup I can assign a 100% transparent material on one side and a solid on the other. You can then see through the transparent face, but no the other way around. And the light does not pass through. how do you do it thomthom??

try not doing all at once. just convert as you go, convert those that you really need and use. Once you got one mxm-material well done with arroway's images you can dupicate it and finetune again for each material. I have all arroway textures and only convert "on demand". its an endless job trying to do all at once. And when you're done Maxwell's material editor may change or update and you have to go through them all again. Francois
