Well that explains how I managed to get italics printed before, it must have been rastered. I now tend to use Hybrid or Vector. I am still developing my workflow and presentation methods so I will review how I am using LO.
Thanks Dave

RE: Losing italics on dimensions
The font is Verdana and there is an italic option for it in the text manager box.
I use dimensions in the model as a visual reference whilst I am working on it, so once I have placed them I don't want to do it again in LO. Although I am still new to LO, I realise there is more control by using it to place dimensions.
However, it suits my current workflow to have the dimensions "live" in the model. I am designing kitchens and I use normal font dimensions to designate existing walls etc, and bold italics for new cabinets and worktops. -
RE: Losing italics on dimensions
The dimensions were placed in SU not LO. I can't select them in LO to change them. They are also attached to components so they update on resizing.

Losing italics on dimensions
I have both italic and normal text dimensions on my model but when exported to layout they all revert to normal text. I have done this before and it has worked when I was using Vista, I am now on Windows 7. Any ideas?
Thanks

RE: Scale to exact dimension ?
You could also use this,

Allows you to input exact sizes -
RE: Cottage Living Room
Beautiful. Did you use a mask for the window? Looks like there might be a "halo" on the glass.

RE: Sculpt using UVs and displacement maps
Michalis, thanks a lot for introducing this. I have just started learning Blender again and have learned a lot by following yours and Olivers tutorials.

RE: Old Coach House
Like it. I think I prefer this style in some ways, smooths out the change from photo to rendered textures. PS Filters? Fotosketcher on low?

RE: Completely lost on how to create this orb
It's basically this shape(roughly, I haven't rounded all the corners) UV wrapped around around a sphere. The problem is its 5 sided. Any way to do that?

Razer keypad
In my search for a better mouse I came across the Razer Nostromo keypad. Originally designed for gaming, it has 16 programmable keys which can be configured in different map sets to suit your needs. I find it very useful for all the shortcut keys in SU , GIMP etc. as you don't need to keep looking from screen to keyboard. I still use a fairly simple mouse with the Razer under my left hand. Just thought I'd share this in case anyone else was looking for something like this and hadn't discovered anything yet.

RE: Component insertion point problem
That means I labelled the model incorrectly after resizing it

RE: Component insertion point problem
Thanks Dave. Hadn't thought of your method for modifying/making components, does sound easier. Guess I'm not as 'intermediate' a user as I thought. I haven't geo-located the units
but saw it mentioned in other posts as a potential issue.
Mac1, thanks for giving it a go. Not sure what you mean by the 'mirror approach' though.
Will try it all again tomorrow when I'm back at work. -
RE: Component insertion point problem
You're probably right. Yes I am dragging them in from the thumbnail, or at least trying to. They just snap to the origin. May have to start from scratch, I have made about 30 of them based on the same component exploded, resized and reformed into the next size up unit. Must be something wrong with the first one so all others are affected. Doesn't seem to relate to the Geo location issue mentioned in other posts either.

RE: Component insertion point problem
OK thanks. Still not working for me. Don't suppose its 'cos your on a Mac

RE: Component insertion point problem
Mac1, sorry didn't see your reply earlier Yes I have read the manual and what is described there is not happening for me. The cursor is not changing to the move tool when I select from the component library.

RE: Component insertion point problem
Dave R, have you tried putting the components into a file in the components directory and then loading it from their or are you loading them from the 'in model' list?
I have just got home and tried it on my PC and I am now having the same problem with all of them. -
RE: Component insertion point problem
OK. Component files and a model with components inserted attached. The 300 and 350 wide units seem to insert ok but the 400 'jumps staight in' at the origin.
Thanks

Component insertion point problem
Hi all, I may be missing something fundamental here but I am having an issue placing my components where I want them. I have created kitchen cabinet components with their axes at the lower left corner of the plinth(image attached), but not glued to any surface. This is convenient to be able to snap the next cabinet onto the one previously placed. However, when I click on the component in the component browser (in the component file it is saved to) it appears in the model at the same point it was created (relative to main origin) and the cursor does not change to the move tool to allow me to place the component where I want. I can only do that if the component has already been placed and I select it from the components in model list. I can't figure out why this happens and what I am doing wrong. Can you put me back on track?
Thanks

RE: Getting Sections to Show in LO
Your timing is perfect. This 'snagged' me at work the other day. Thanks a lot.

RE: Reversed textures in game
Take a look at Fredos tools in the Plugins section of this forum. 'Thrupaint' will help you apply textures to the correct faces and 'Reverse orient faces' will help identify faces which are the wrong way round. But it helps to understand all the points that TIG has made about how things work in native Sketchup before you start relying on plugins though.
