Thanks Dave. Hadn't thought of your method for modifying/making components, does sound easier. Guess I'm not as 'intermediate' a user as I thought. I haven't geo-located the units
but saw it mentioned in other posts as a potential issue.
Mac1, thanks for giving it a go. Not sure what you mean by the 'mirror approach' though.
Will try it all again tomorrow when I'm back at work.

RE: Component insertion point problem
You're probably right. Yes I am dragging them in from the thumbnail, or at least trying to. They just snap to the origin. May have to start from scratch, I have made about 30 of them based on the same component exploded, resized and reformed into the next size up unit. Must be something wrong with the first one so all others are affected. Doesn't seem to relate to the Geo location issue mentioned in other posts either.

RE: Component insertion point problem
Mac1, sorry didn't see your reply earlier Yes I have read the manual and what is described there is not happening for me. The cursor is not changing to the move tool when I select from the component library.

RE: Component insertion point problem
Dave R, have you tried putting the components into a file in the components directory and then loading it from their or are you loading them from the 'in model' list?
I have just got home and tried it on my PC and I am now having the same problem with all of them. -
RE: Component insertion point problem
OK. Component files and a model with components inserted attached. The 300 and 350 wide units seem to insert ok but the 400 'jumps staight in' at the origin.
Thanks

Component insertion point problem
Hi all, I may be missing something fundamental here but I am having an issue placing my components where I want them. I have created kitchen cabinet components with their axes at the lower left corner of the plinth(image attached), but not glued to any surface. This is convenient to be able to snap the next cabinet onto the one previously placed. However, when I click on the component in the component browser (in the component file it is saved to) it appears in the model at the same point it was created (relative to main origin) and the cursor does not change to the move tool to allow me to place the component where I want. I can only do that if the component has already been placed and I select it from the components in model list. I can't figure out why this happens and what I am doing wrong. Can you put me back on track?
Thanks

RE: Getting Sections to Show in LO
Your timing is perfect. This 'snagged' me at work the other day. Thanks a lot.

RE: Reversed textures in game
Take a look at Fredos tools in the Plugins section of this forum. 'Thrupaint' will help you apply textures to the correct faces and 'Reverse orient faces' will help identify faces which are the wrong way round. But it helps to understand all the points that TIG has made about how things work in native Sketchup before you start relying on plugins though.

RE: Riverbank winter NPR
Absolutely love the night shot. Very seasonal. Would like to make something similar for my xmas cards. Seriously

RE: Layout 3 crash
Resolved. Not entirely sure how but the only change I made was to remove all old files/directories left behind after uninstalling SU Pro on the old machine.

RE: Layout 3 crash
Thanks, hadn't thought of that. I have an Architect next door to us at work who could probably do exports but I need to find a solution. Just got nice new fast PC and can't 'play'

RE: How to model a cornice
Radbagaliyev, have you tried the Profile Builder plugin? It makes short work of mouldings.

Layout 3 crash
This is a copy of a post I have placed on Google groups in desperation. Anyone here have any ideas about this?
"I also am suffering with Layout 3 and no response from the tech support. I have transferred my Pro license to a new PC running Windows 7, 64 bit. Sketchup runs fine as the Pro version but Layout gives the ' Layout has stopped working' error report. Style builder doesn't respond at all. I have deleted and re installed several times and am also in the middle of several projects without the ability to print my plans. Anyone have any ideas? I am frustrated with the lack of response from the support team even accounting for a time difference. Posting this on Sketchucation as well."
Thanks

RE: Furniture Models
I like your understated style, particularly the slightly quirky vanity unit. You have inspired me to try a couple of concept pieces I've had in the back of my mind for a while. Thanks

RE: Walkin wardrobe
Interesting. It can be difficult to get good views in confined spaces.
On the design, depending on how tall your client is I find it safer sometimes to put the shelves at the bottom and the hanging up top. It is easier to reach the 'shoulder' of a hanger than pulling down stuff from a shelf. Again, it depends on the height of your client. -
RE: Metro-imperial DC!
Just a note to add. There is a bug. DC units show as imperial if 'Display unit format' is unchecked in model info>units even if the model template is metric.
-
RE: Metro-imperial DC!
OK I have figured it out but it still doesn't really make sense. I had the units for the DC set to display as 'End users units' in the custom attributes, but despite the fact that my default model template is in millimetres, they still displayed in inches. Is this a bug?
The only way it works is if I set the units to display in 'millimetres'
Hope this helps anyone else who comes across this
