    • Solid tool operation on multiple solids

Hi, I would like to subtract an array of several thousands cylinders from a panel like geometry (bottom of a box to perforate the box) but I just realised that I can't do that with the solid tools because I would have to subtract each cylinder one by one, which would be a several hours taking pain in the as.

How can I subtract all the cylinders all at once ? Thank you for your answers.

    • RE: How to create texture from real world objects for SU?

Well, since a while I'm interested in the topic "micro housing solutions". The reason is I am living in Vienna which is a city with pretty high real estate prices and the are increasing.

A two or three years ago when I started thinking about to buy a flat and realized how expensive that is and how long I would have to work for it I started to think about possible alternatives.

I am not the only one, there are lot's of micro housing projects to be found on the internet.

The japanese capsule hotels style of living has already passed my mind and I've already projected my own design idea - my concept is more en-capsuled double beds with a sitting area self serviced like a washing saloon πŸ˜„

But at the moment I am more interested in unused space and for conventional property developer prospectively unusable space in urban areas which potentially could be utilized to fit some sort of mikro appartment in there.

    • RE: How to create texture from real world objects for SU?

Yes, if the faces would consist out of more or less the same structure that would work, but that is not the case and I would like to have a more detailed texture and was hoping for some easy method per smart phone camera as it is already able to 3D scan objects just with a smartphone.

I just made a video of my mattress in my room by sweeping my smartphone over the entire mattress area in close proximity.

Then I extracted a jpeg out of every 10 frames and then let the extracted jpegs render with a stitching program - however the result is pretty bad quality.

I guess because the angle of the camera is constantly changing regarding the objects the camera is filming and that makes everything very blurred.

Right is the car park, left is the footwalk and I would like to model a structure in between - which should be some sort of micro apartment.

    • How to create texture from real world objects for SU?

I would like to model a structure in SU in the space between the exterior walls of a car park and a foot-walk stair case.

The car park and the stair case exist in reality.

I don't want to model the car-park and the stair case in detail, both have basically a cuboid geometry, so I was thinking the best way to represent them is by simply making two cuboids and stick pictures of there faces as texture on the cuboids.

The only problem is how can I produce halfway decent texture respectively images of the faces of the car park and and the foot-walk.

The problem is that I can not make a picture of all the faces with a single shot as the distance does not allow that always so I was thinking the solution has to be making several pictures and stitch them together to get the texture.

      So now the question:

Is there some software-app out there which could do the job?

I am imaging something like to"wipe" with my smartphone camera in a right angle and same distance (as good as possible by hand) over the faces of the car park and the stair case, the smartphone makes continuous pictures (maybe by using video record) and some software is stitching the pictures automatically together.

The red faces are the faces I want to create texture from + open sides and bottom

    • RE: Intersection does not work

I've already tried that before (even scaled it up by 1000)I tried it now again but it does not work, pretty strange.

I've just mentioned that the link in my first post lead to the wrong model, I've rectified that now.

    • Intersection does not work

      Hi guys!

I have the problem that a face does not intersect with a an other object.

The face and the object have a certain amount of coplanar areas all located at an inclined plane where the should intersect but the do not.

I explodet both, selected both and tried several intersections methods but non of them works.

Could someone who has more clue than me have a look at my model and maybe tell me why?

      link to the model:

Try selecting all the geometry and run Intersect Faces>With Model.

I have already tried to do intersect Faces>With Selection – but a message "No intersection found between selection and the rest of the model" appeared

Only after I posted my problem here in this thread and tried again I realized that the dish like shapes where not selected even I drew a huge selection box over everything which made me think they would be selected but in fact they were not, now I’ve selected each of them individually then it worked

    • RE: Bend Structers

Based on your reply I tried to go back to the roots of my model and check if I can notice uncleanliness – thereby I encountered another problem.

Why can't I select each by a loop enclosed face individually?

From my understanding the outline of each loop should merge to the face of the block – the lie on the same plane and therefore they should merge so that I can select them all individually and thereby also delete.

    • RE: Bend Structers

After I rescaled my volume be the factor of 1000 and applied the radial bender on it I obtained fairly the same result as you.

Looks good on the first look, but what I don't like is that it has grown some irregular extra edges and it isn't a solid anymore, therefore I can't apply the solid tools.

I also bent a double sided honey comp panel but the result is also not overly satisfying because after the bent some asymmetries and irregularities appear, especially in the most bent parts.

Can I do something to obtain a more smooth result?

Maybe scale the model up by a factor of 10000 first before I apply the shape bender plug-in?

I placed the file in my google account:

Good grief! You could have told us you'd moved the axes. Reset the axes and then set things up correctly. Why did you move them in the first place?

Sorry, I was not aware that moving axes has such drastic consequences.

Until now I was innocently presuming that re-orianting the axes has no other consequences than the stuff in my model is simply re-orinated.

      I'll reasearch upon this.

Sorry the file was to big according to the sketchucation upload function.

I've uploaded it on my google drive account:

I've just bought a Sketchucation premium membership – will this allow me to upload bigger files?

      The video is now public

    • RE: Bend Structers

Many thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!

Sorry for the late reply I wasn't home since yesterday early morning and just had my cell with me.

Cottys video made me notice a thing which I have not noticed before.

There is this Icon in Cottys video – as soon as Cotty moves the mouse over it an info box pops up and tells:

"Select a shape to bend first"

      – he clicks then the icon and only afterwards he selects then the straight line.

I have never mentioned an icon on my screen and therefore not clicked one.

However – after I have selected my to be bend component, then activated the shape bender plugin under Plugins> Chris Fullmer Tools> Shape Bender, the mouse arrow turns white with a little straight line under it and the instructions tell "please select a single straight ..." when I try to select then the single straight line it tells me "please select a line that is drawn on the red axis" (but my line is on the red axis – at least now)

..why is the video embedding not working ?

Nope, sadly neither the video nor moving everything in the positive quadrant has helped, still the same s***.

I use "SU Pro 2013 Version 13.0.3689",I've downloaded the plugin from this source and installed it Window>Preferences>Extensions

      I've downloaded the plugin.

When I try to select a line which lies on the red axis – because the plugin tells me to do so I end up with the plug in pops up a message where it tells me:

"Please select a line that is drawn on the red axis"

      ..and I ask myself:

      HÄÄÀÀÀ???

      Hi guys,

I'd like to bend a rectangular honeycomb structure 90Β° with an arch in the bend.

Which plug-in is capable of doing the job?

    • Solid tool "Subtract" destroys model

      Hi guys,

I have a fairly curvy model (bezier curves extruded and edges rounded with fredos "RoundCorner") – when I apply the solid tool "Subtract" on it the outcome is that the surface of the model rips open on some locations

Does anybody know why that happens and how I can solve this problem? I'd be happy for any help.

The file is in the attachment.
